NOW IN OUR SECOND YEAR! Come enjoy the phenomenal views from our well-appointed 1-level ridge-top 2200 square foot Elk Ridge cabin, The Aerie (defined as "a lofty mountaintop nest of an eagle or hawk; also a mountaintop home"). Located mid-way between Zion and Bryce National Parks, and near Cedar Breaks and Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monuments, Bryan Head Ski Area and Duck Creek Village.
And with Lake Powell and the north rim of the Grand Canyon within day-trip distance, there is no shortage of natural pursuits as well as entertaining activities: Ride ATVs or snowmobiles on the 500+ miles of marked trails nearby, fish in the many area lakes, take a relaxing horseback trail ride, hike, bike, climb, take a back-country "safari" tour, explore the canyons of Lake Powell by boat, take a guided educational class at Zion, visit and volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, attend the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, visit the interesting little shops in Duck Creek Village and Kanab, or just take some "downtime" at the cabin, enjoying our library of contemporary books and magazines, playing videogames, watching HDTV and movies, or simply gazing at the million-dollar view in a hammock chair on the covered deck.
The Aerie cabin is fully furnished, and we have tried to include the little extras to make your vacation everything you want it to be. Get a good night's sleep on the new Sealy Posturpedic, in the high-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, with your choice of man-made or natural feather/down pillows. Enjoy the large high-quality towels and AMBR Spa toiletries in the bathrooms. And in the well-stocked kitchen we have included a good supply of often-used spices. And best of all, during 2009, we are offering our own "Stimulus Package": There will be NO CLEANING FEE for all weekly rentals.
Elk Ridge Estates, at the junction of Rts. 89 and 14 and just outside the Dixie National Forest, is home to a variety of wildlife: abundant wild turkey, rabbits, mule deer, coyote, elk and birds of prey including bald eagles. The community is located at the junction of Routes 14 and 89 and offers convenient year-round access with its paved roads. Having access to paved roads in all directions, the cabin is about 40 miles from Zion, Bryce, Cedar City, and Kanab; about 90 miles from St. George; about 200 miles from Las Vegas; and about 10 scenic miles from Duck Creek Village. If you are flying from out of state, there are international airports in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City and a regional airport in Cedar City.

Luxury Ridge-Top Cabin, Between Zion & Bryce, 5 Acres, a+ View
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Zion National Park
After reading of Cedar City as a recommended retirement location, I decided to take an exploratory trip. When my children were very young, one of our family trips took us into Salt Lake City, where we rented a motorhome and made a loop of southeastern Utah, when we were awed by the physical beauty of that part of the state. So after visiting Cedar City, I made a southwestern state loop before returning to the Vegas airport. Although I wouldn't have thought it possible, I felt this area was even more magnificent and absolutely fell in love with the red-rock topography. Along the way, I saw an ad for this cabin and decided on a lark to stop and see it. Although the cabin itself needed a bit of modernization, I was mesmerized when I saw the view, and impulsively made an offer that day. Although I had a brief stab of questioning my sanity, I haven't regretted the purchase, and I am very happy to share my find with my guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
In addition to the view, the natural beauty and the serenity, I very much enjoy watching the birds and other wildlife. Although the cabin is truly easily accessible, with paved roads all the way to the driveway, the feeling once you arrive is one of remote peace and quiet. I joke that it is like camping in total luxury!
Cute mountain village with restaurants, shops, snowmobile & ATV rentals.
Magnificent park with paths through red-rock formations (such as spires and "hoodoos") and amazing distant views. It's nearly impossible to take a bad picture here.
A must-see destination. Approaching by either direction on Rt. 9 will give entirely unique experiences. And although there are some amazing hikes in the park, it's possible to enjoy it without even g
Although much smaller, we believe that this park is every bit as magnificent as Bryce, and it's also not far from Brian Head Ski Area, which operates its chairlift in the summer.
There is a small course behind the Best Western motel that is reasonably priced. At the junction of Routes 9 and 89.
This beautiful reservoir provides amazing views by boat, which can be rented at the marina.
Owner's Map of Zion National Park
As a recent transplant from northern Virginia to central Colorado, I am happy to be closer to The Aerie cabin, which is now in driving rather than flying distance.

We had a wonderful time in the Aerie! The owner's thought of everything - a video room for the kids, robes in every room - including one for the kids, swinging chairs out on the deck, fire pit in the back, books and dvd's, tourism guides .......you name it, they had it! Very clean and modern. We will definitely go back!
Owner response:Thanks, Cindi, for the kind words, and I look forward to having you back.

We came to Utah to explore the parks (Bryce, Zion, Cedar Breaks and the North Rim), and we were so glad to have this quiet house to return to each day. After seeing the online photos--and reading the glowing reviews--we had high expectations, which were completely exceeded once we arrived. We can't say enough about the view, and we could've easily spent the whole week just parked in the chairs on the deck. This home is perfectly situated, and we appreciated the attention to detail, the comfort, and the beauty both indoors and out. Our only complaint: it was very, VERY hard to leave. We hope to return!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your feedback, and I'm so glad you had a pleasant stay. I'd be glad to have you back.

This "cabin" far exceeded my expectations. The living room furniture (chair, loveseat & sofa) was so comfortable to relax in (unlike other rentals I've been in)! The beds, bedding & pillows enabled us to get a good night's sleep. I know these seem like small things, but they greatly enhance the vacation experience. It's obvious that the cabin is kept clean & well-maintained - it still looks brand new. The owner, Ann, responded very promptly to all of my inquiries. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who is planning a vacation to this area. Besides visiting Zion & Bryce National Parks we went to Pink Coral Sand State Park - what an unexpected treat that was! Anyone with children should go there - the kids will love it!
Owner response:I am glad to hear you had such a great vacation. And thank you for the kind words about the cabin. I do strive to offer my guests the best possible lodging experience during their visit to such a magnificent part of the country.

What a wonderful and unique cabin! We went to Utah for a family hiking vacation and the Aerie was the perfect launching point! It is a gorgeous cabin, just as described. Very comfortable with many extras. We saw mule deer every night just off the large deck. Also, we loved having an attached garage. We flew in and out of Las Vegas, an easy and scenic 4 hour drive. We drove through Zion on our way to the cabin for the first time and were amazed at the landscape in that area. Be sure you do stop at a grocery on the way and stock up. We hiked Zion, Bryce (be sure and take the drive to Rainbow Point), Red Canyon, Snow Canyon and Kodachrome Basin State Park in one week. All are within easy driving distance of the Aerie. We also went horseback riding in Red Canyon. Beautiful! We experienced weather from 23 degrees and snow (on Cedar Mountain) to 90 degrees in St. George. It was awesome! Unfortunately, Cedar Breaks was still closed because of tremendous winter snows, but we would have loved to see it. Be sure and take the drive on route 14 to Cedar City, it is worth it! Thanks to Ann for making all transactions easy, and for timely and accurate communications. We plan on coming back.
Owner response:I truly appreciate it when my guests take the time to post feedback on their stay at The Aerie. And I'm so glad to hear of your pleasant stay, Sue.

We have stayed here twice in Nov 09 and May 10. It is a fabulous property, even better than the photographs. It is clean, well maintained and stocked with everything you could need. We thorougly enjoyed our stay, the views are magnificent and the location to visit Bryce, Zion and Kanab is excellent. Duck Creek is not to missed especially the pie at Aunt Sue's chalet.. We have small children and the travel crib and highchair being provided were excellent touches. The owners were very easy to deal with and very prompt in replying to any query. We would love to stay again.

The cabin and the property were actually more beautiful than the photos could capture. It was clean, well stocked, and very comfortable. Plenty of wildlife right at the cabin. What a view from the deck! It was a perfect base for our excursions to Bryce, Zion, Cedar Breaks and Dixie National Forest. Ann and Rick provided us with all the information and amenities we needed for the best vacation we've ever had.
