- Cadillac offers a wide variety of recreational activities, mouthwatering cuisine, appealing attractions, unique shopping and is clearly a small town with a ‘vigorous economy, a healthy environment and a vibrant sense of community. There are large chain grocery stores and the usual fast food restaurants, but we encourage you to try the locally owned businesses and restaurants created by those who live, here. For instance, The Clam Lake Beer Co is a newly opened brew pub offering 20+ beers, brewed on site; the sport a great menu and wine is offered, too :) To wear off that great food and drink; we offer over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, 34 downhill ski runs with over 485 feet of vertical drop, over 58 miles of cross country ski and snow shoe trails (15 groomed miles), 90,000+ acres of state and national forest, and three major rivers with two large lakes offering year around world record fishing. Recreation defines our lives and offers ‘naturally inviting’ reasons to visit us. After the day in the great outdoors, Cadillac offers unique shopping boutiques, three bowling centers, a roller skating rink, a championship ice rink, two full service health & fitness facilities, a 3D movie complex, and of course mouthwatering cuisine at the many locally owned restaurants around the area. Add these attractions to a full line-up of winter festivals and you can spend a fun-filled, or relaxing vacation – either way, come connect in Cadillac, you’ll keep coming back for more. Once you arrive at The Boathouse Cottage you will most likely not want to leave the property; however, should you decide to take a day trip we have recommendations! Are you a golfer? Enjoy fine dining? Sunsets on Lake Michigan? Check out Arcadia Bluffs located in Empire, Michigan. Arcadia Bluffs is just over an hour's drive, West of the cottage. http://arcadiabluffs.com/ Even if you don't enjoy golf you will enjoy this location's ambiance of gorgeous views and scrumptious food! Shopping is your hobby? Drop off the golfers and head to Frankfort for the day! Rejoin them at night for the sunset and dinner :) http://goo.gl/maps/t5IEh Don't Miss Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park in Empire Michigan; voted America's Most Beautiful Location by The Today Show. Empire is just an hour from the cottage and less than 20 minutes North of Arcadia Bluffs This destination is often the highlight of our guests' day trips. Pack a lunch, take a hike and experience the stuff wonderful lifetime memories are made of! Manistee is 45 minutes West, and offers both a casino and Lake Michigan shores. Traverse City is less than an hour and hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the World Famous Cherry Festival in July. Also in Traverse City - the Leelanau Peninsula; home to many wineries and shops. You will never lack for something to do when you stay at The Boathouse! Or, try my favorite - just kick-back and do nothing at all and still experience one of the best vacations of your life! ...moreless

Time too short
Time too short
The wife and I snuck in for a quick weekend getaway to scout out the Boathouse and we thought an outdoor hot tub would be great on an early fall weekend. We were right but I can see the Boathouse is much more. Our family has rented all over Northern Michigan for 25 years and I can say the Boathouse has the complete package. We are working the schedule right now with extended family and targeting a 2 week vacation for next summer. Lots of rooms and beds and lots to do right here but the location is excellent for all the day trips we'll want to do. Manistee Charter fishing, Crystal Mountain golfing, Interlochen concerts, and kayaking the Pine River. The lake is clean, shallow out front and no weeds for swimming, just perfect for kids. The game room is a special add on. We like to grill out and the grill here is big and new and I have to say the kitchen has more utensils and cookware then anyplace we've rented. Looking forward to next summer.

Owner response: We are downright pleased as punch to hear you had a great, couples weekend getaway! There is so much to do in the Cadillac area and as they say; so little time to do it in a week...let alone a weekend. One of the wonderful aspects of staying at the Boathouse is you can never leave the property and have one of the best vacations of your life, or enhance your trip with an (ad)venture out to Sleeping Bear Dunes in Empire Michigan (voted the most beautiful place in the US) golf at Arcadia Bluffs (ranked one of the top courses in Michigan) visit wine country on the Leelanau Peninsula, or head to Traverse City for food and fun. All of these day trips and the shores of Lake Michigan are within an hour's drive! Come back and see us and spend a week (or, TWO!)
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
My family and I had an awesome weekend at the Boathouse. The house was very clean and had more amenities than any other house we have rented on VRBO. The kids had a blast on the water trampoline(they even got to jump in the rain) and making smores. Home owners were quick to answer any questions and had great recommendations for our stay. We spent a day a Sleeping Bear Dunes and would love to go back and spend more time there. We would rent this house house again and reccomend it to others. Thanks for such a great time!

Above the expectations
Above the expectations
We were a Group of 10 people coming from France for a wedding. So we chose to stay all together and to book this house. The pictures seemed Wonderful !!! I also had a very good contact with the owners, who reply to any questions ( I had some ) within 24hours!! And it was....and even more than what we expected... We found a king word from the owners in the kitchen, thé house was clean, well furnished, and big enought... We all have great mémoires there, barbecues, nights around the fire, jacuzzi...time was too short!!!! I remember the first day, due to the jet lag I got up very early....and saw the sunrise, and took picture who deserve to be put in a wall... We don't any other wedding planned in Michigan....but we should go back there!!!!

Owner response: Emmanuel, We are honored you chose to spend your visit to Michigan at The Boathouse Cottage on Beautiful Lake Mitchell. The memories you created with your friends, enjoying the area and the cottage make our hearts happy :) I felt a bit of pressure when you informed me you live on the French Riveria and wondered how we could compare to such a place; however, it is not about comparison, it is about providing an environment conducive to creating wonderful memories; and it sounds as though the mission was accomplished! Please, do visit us, again - we would welcome you back, anytime :) Best, Laurie
Excellent summer vacation
Excellent summer vacation
My family recently stayed at The Boathouse and had one of our best summer vacations to date. The ad does not adequately describe the beautiful cottage with all of its amenities. It is obvious the owners have invested a lot of time and energy into making it a home-away-from-home destination. We spent many nights around the campfire, watching the stars and moon over the lake. Days were spent on the pontoon or playing on the water trampoline. The sandy bottom and shallow waters were perfect for our toddlers to play in. The kids had a fun time catching snails and clams and feeding the fish. The cottage comes very well equipped with any type of cooking utensil you could need while on vacation, plus all kinds of snuggly blankets for those cooler nights! The rec room is an added bonus, for rainy days or just to take a break from the sun and fun. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to making it an annual vacation spot. Thanks Laurie and John!

Owner response: Pam, We are so pleased you and your family had a wonderful visit at The Boathouse. The happy memories you created are exactly what we hope for our guests! Providing a venue allowing these life-long, happy memories to occur is our goal; not to mention The Boathouse was designed as a property we would want to rent for a week for a family vacation, too! We appreciate you enjoying the property to its fullest and look forward to your return next year. Best, Laurie & John
Extremely clean and well appointed house with plenty of room and great location. Amenities galore and the use of a pontoon boat made the stay very enjoyable.

We had a great time at the Boathouse. It was exactly as described, clean and nicely furnished with a great outdoor area. It was exactly what we had in mind; a comfortable summer cottage, but not so extravagant that I was worried about the little guys hurting anything. Very quiet area. The house was plenty big enough for all of us. We had 11 people ages 2 and up and we all had fun. We had great weather and spent hours each day in the water, and sitting outside enjoying the fire ring. If I had to offer any suggestions- it would be to have a few marshmallow sticks/ hot dog sticks available, otherwise we had everything we needed. We missed out on the boat rental, but brought our own canoe and kept it tied to the dock all week. The kids all loved the water trampoline, and fishing off the dock in the evenings. We spent one day driving into Frankfort - a great little coast town with fun shopping and good food, and then went up to the dunes and explored that area. This is the first time we have utilized VRBO and it was a great experience ~ we will definitely do this again and would recommend this property for other families.

Owner response: We are honored you would choose The Boathouse cottage as your first delve into VRBO, and extremely pleased you and your family enjoyed themselves with the cottage offerings! One of the best aspects to the cottage is its location; you can choose to explore the area (Lake Michigan coastline is just 45 minutes away in Manistee; Traverse City is an hour's drive, as is Sleeping Bear Dunes and Frankfort) or you can choose to stay right on the property and still have oodles of fun on the water trampoline, floating island, private dock, hot tub and fire pit! Oh, and thanks for the suggestion - I have added marshmallow and hot dog sticks to my shopping list :) We hope to see you back again, soon!

We have a large family (20 ish) and we found the Boathouse comfortable for all! The property was well maintained and very clean. The owners and their employees were responsive and helpful as we settled in. The yard was terrific with fire pit, hot tub, room for Baggo and large tables for eating and morning coffee. It is an ideal location, close to hiking, biking, Lake Michigan and of course boating/swimming on Lake Mitchell!! We recommend this rental!

Owner response: Now, THAT'S what I'm talking about! Great description of exactly what we strive for with our Boathouse cottage. We are so pleased you had a great experience and we were able to provide you with a venue to spend quality time with friends and family, alike! The only thing that would make this experience better is if you return next year :) Thanks, again!
Our family went for a small reunion. There were 14 of us, ages 3-78 years old. There was something for all of us. The boathouse was clean and as described. We enjoyed the use of the kayaks-a must for teens along with the game room. My dad brought his fishing boat and my 13 year old daughter caught the biggest fish--27 " walleye! We enjoyed a fish fry of walleye and bass using the fully furnished kitchen. The kids jumped in and used the water trampoline right away. We all had a fantastic time with the use of the fire pit at night (wood supplied and fire starter in laundry room). Plenty of towels and easy access to a spacious laundry room when done. We had plenty of eating areas-seating for 8 in dining area with 2 more tables outside. Two areas for inside entertaining. While those that wanted to watch the ball games on TV , the rest of us played charades in the front enclosed area. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the ph balance and jets on the hot tub hadn't been serviced. But, when I talked to Laurie she was understanding and proactive to get it taken care of. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the sunrises! I would recommend this property to friends--Enjoy!
