Come enjoy the phenomenal panoramic ridge-top views from our well-appointed, 1-level 2200 square foot Elk Ridge cabin on 5 acres, The Aerie (defined as "a lofty mountaintop nest of an eagle or hawk; also a mountaintop home"). Located mid-way between Zion and Bryce National Parks, and near Cedar Breaks and Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monuments, Bryan Head Ski Area and Duck Creek Village.

And with Lake Powell and the north rim of the Grand Canyon within day-trip distance, there is no shortage of natural pursuits as well as entertaining activities: Ride ATVs or snowmobiles on the 500+ miles of marked trails nearby, fish in the many area lakes, take a relaxing horseback trail ride, hike, bike, climb, take a back-country "safari" tour, explore the canyons of Lake Powell by boat, take a guided educational class at Zion, visit and volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, attend the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, visit the interesting little shops in Duck Creek Village and Kanab, or just take some "downtime" at the cabin, enjoying our library of contemporary books and magazines, playing videogames, watching HDTV and movies, or simply gazing at the million-dollar view in a hammock chair on the covered deck.

The Aerie cabin is fully furnished, and we have tried to include the little extras to make your vacation everything you want it to be. The beds are new Sealy Posturpedic, the sheets are high-thread-count Egyptian cotton, you have your choice of man-made or natural feather/down pillows, the bathrooms are stocked with large high-quality towels and AMBR Spa toiletries, and the kitchen provisions include a good supply of often-used spices. And best of all, during 2009, we are offering our own "Stimulus Package": There will be NO CLEANING FEE for all weekly rentals.

Elk Ridge Estates, just outside the Dixie National Forest, is home to a variety of wildlife: abundant wild turkey, rabbits, mule deer, coyote, elk and birds of prey including bald eagles. The community is located at the junction of Routes 14 and 89 and offers convenient year-round access with its paved roads. The cabin is about 40 miles from Zion, Bryce, Cedar City, and Kanab; about 90 miles from St. George; about 200 miles from Las Vegas; and about 10 miles from Duck Creek Village. If you are flying from out of state, there are international airports in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City and a regional airport in Cedar City.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

Currently residents of a small farmette in northern Virginia, we have 2 young adult children, 2 horses, 4 dogs, and 3 cats. We are looking forward to relocating to the magnificent west at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Why the Owner Chose Duck Creek Village

After reading of Cedar City as a recommended retirement location, we decided to take an exploratory trip. When our children were very young, one of our family trips took us into Salt Lake City, where we rented a motorhome and made a loop of southeastern Utah, when we were awed by the physical beauty of that part of the state. So after visiting Cedar City, we made a southwestern state loop before returning to the Vegas airport. Although we wouldn't have thought it possible, we felt this area was even more magnificent and absolutely fell in love with the red-rock topography. Along the way, we saw an ad for this cabin and decided on a lark to stop and see it. Although the cabin itself needed a bit of modernization, we were mesmerized when we saw the view, and impulsively made an offer that day. Althought we had a brief stab of questioning our sanity, we haven't regretted the purchase, and we are very happy to share our find with our guests.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

In addition to the view, the natural beauty and the serenity, we very much enjoy watching the birds and other wildlife. Although the cabin is truly easily accessible, with paved roads all the way to the driveway, the feeling once you arrive is one of remote peace and quiet. We joke that it is like camping in total luxury!

    • We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay and cared for. It was the perfect base for us as it is half way between Bryce and Zion Parks. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked all but one of our meals there. We drove in from Las Vegas and stocked up on groceries at St. George. The Millericks are also excellent to deal with. Totally above board. Don't hesitate, this place is a real gem and no they are not paying me for this review!

    • We enjoyed four days at this beautiful mountain ridge home in September '09 and it was spectacular. Ann and Rick have provided a warm, homey environment with all amenities needed for a memorable getaway. The location is ideal between Bryce and Zion, yet very quiet, and serene for nature-sitings and star-gazing - and the VIEW! WOW! Some nice golf courses and local restaurants nearby. We hope to return for an extended stay. This rental is a real find and an exceptional value.

    • The cabin was beautiful both inside and out. We had a wonderful time visiting Bryce, Zion, the North Rim, and Lake Powell. All within a days drive of the cabin. Everyday brought a new adventure and was always nice to return to the cabin for a relaxing evening and spending time with the family.

    • We had an absolutely wonderful time. The house was more than we expected and the views are tremendous. It was a great opportunity for us to spend a fun, relaxing, exciting week together before I deploy to Afghanistan next month.

    • What a beautiful home this is!! The location was perfect for dividing time between Zion and Bryce Canyon. The peace and quiet were a refreshing experieince. We had never seen the Hammaka hanging chairs but fell in love with them. The superb attention to every little detail left little or nothing to be desired. It's been an extraordinary pleasure being Ann and Rick's first guests of this lovely cabin!!
