Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2003

We live in Brooklyn in New York City. Barney is an expert in the use of the internet in international trade and runs 2 major websites. Madeleine is a China expert (speaks excellent Mandarin) and the Director of Communications at the Carnegie Council on Ethics in International Affairs in New York. And no - the house in the background is not a vacation rental.

Why the Owner Chose Beaucaire

We have had a life-long interest and love for France. We love this area of the south because of the unique beauty, great food and wine and wonderful pace of life. It is easy to get to from anywhere in Europe (Ryanair flies to Nimes airport, which is about 20 minutes away and the TGV from Paris stops in both Avignon and Nimes). Marseilles airport, with connections from all over the world, is about 1 hour away.

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment

Great things to do: hiking, sightseeing to the Pont du Gard, Avignon, Les Baux de Provence, Arles, the Camargue and hundreds of other historic and beautiful places. Gourmet restaurants and some of the best wines in the world. We love taking long walks along the Rhone (just across the street) and discovering new places.

Great location and warm welcome. We really enjoyed our time in Beaucaire. It's central to many great locations in Southern France, including Avignon, Nimes, Pont du Gard, etc. The provision of a computer/printer was excellent (in addition to the WiFi) and really helped us. The restaurant just down the road was great (recommended, very friendly people, despite our lack of French). We really recommend this location, both the apartment and town.

large clean apt in a building with attractive interiors, completely equipped including telephone, wifi and convenient street parking Two of the bedrooms have large beds with good firm mattresses. Although Beaucaire may not be the most attractive place it more than makes up for for it with its location which is a relatively short round trip drive from many interesting towns and places.

There could be no better place from which to explore the delights of the Bouch-du-Rhone area. You are about 30 minutes from Nimes, Avignon, Arles or St. Remy--or you can be up in the Luberon's or out in the Camargue in an hour. There is something interesting to do in whichever direction you venture. And, if you never go anywhere and just sit on the terrace sipping wine, that's fine too. Loads of great restaurant choices within walking distance and 2 markets every week if you want to cook in. Contact information is plentiful and the on-site supervision is attentive and English speaking.

"Lots of Room--and Comfort" This is a big apartment. Four adults (two couples) still had room to spare. The kitchen is new--with full sized appliances and Ikea style. The shower was also very up to date. The walls are very thick, with full shutters on all the windows, so it is quiet. The clothes washer does not have a drier function, but we got by with the drying racks. The WiFi worked great. The apartment's computer and printer made it easier to plan our daily trips and keep up with things back home. There are plenty of places to sit in the high-ceiling living room, as well as lights and fans throughout the apartment. Beaucaire is central to many sites in eastern Provence, so driving was easier. The apartment includes secure indoor parking--a big plus in the crowded, narrow streets common in the area. The local managers were very helpful--especially when we needed advice on a medical emergency. There were no cleaning fees or complicated contracts. We felt like we were visiting a friend's place, rather than risking unknown expenses in a complicated contract arrangement we saw at other places we considered.

We stayed in the Beaucaire apartment for 1 week in April 2010. We had a very pleasant stay and would certainly recommend this accommodation to other travelers. The apartment was well set up with everything we needed, and we were especially pleased to find the computer with internet access and the English satellite TV channels. The kitchen was very well stocked too. The place was more than big enough for 2 of us, and could easily accommodate 4 people. (6 is possible as there are 3 good size bedrooms but it might feel a bit too crowded after a few days). John and Lisa, the local agents, were very helpful. Beaucaire itself was fairly quiet while we were there, but it is a wonderful base for exploring the region...close to Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Uzes. Don't miss the Cathedrale d'Images at Les Baux.

We (2 couples) stayed at the flat for 3 days in mid May, 2010. We found the flat via the internet and all the comments were positive so we made the reservation. Our arrival time was coordinated by phone with John (the owner's representative) and we met him at the flat. He explained everything to us and answered all our questions about Beaucaire and the area. The flat was clean and spacious. As we were two married couples, having 2 bathrooms was important. The kitchen was fully equipped and we used it for breakfasts and dinners. There were lots of books, maps and brochures (many probably left by previous guests) that were very helpful. The fact that there was a desktop computer, printer and wireless connection made it very convenient to keep in touch with family. Beaucaire is an interesting small town. The flat is in an older building in an old section of town. We had no problems walking from the flat to the market or the river (both a 5 minute walk). The market on Sunday was small but you could get everything. Beaucaire as a town is near most sites in the region and thus is very convenient to use as a base for sightseeing. I would easily recommend the flat to others.

We spent a week in Beaucaire in early September 2009. There were five in our party, me – the mom – and my two adult children and their spouses. As it was the first time in Provence for all but me, we had many sites to see. What we didn’t see much of was Beaucaire, but for everything else, this city was a very convenient location. The apartment was large, comfortable and very light. Being on the second floor, it was high enough to see over the city walls across the street and even catch a glimpse of the Rhone river. Since we were doing a blog of our trip, we appreciated having the computer for our use. Additionally, the wireless feature in the apartment allowed use of our own the laptop. I appreciated having various guide books available that I could consult in addition to my own. We all enjoyed the art work throughout the several rooms. The kitchen and its equipment were new and easily used We used the clothes washer extensively. The drying racks worked pretty well, since the weather was warm and we could leave the windows open while we were gone. We would have liked a way to have gotten some air flow at night into the bedroom, the window of which opens onto the terrace, and we hope that something will be worked out like a shutter within the main shutter. The apartment was in a residential neighborhood with few shops. It was good to have the secure parking area on the ground level of the building. We got some good take-out meals at the pizza cafe down the street. Also found some boulangeries about a five minute walk away. We had one meal along the canal, but didn’t explore that part of the city. A couple of us walked over to the nearby Rhone and watched some jet ski racing. When we arrived, we bought produce for the week at the Sunday market. We also shopped at the super-marche in Tarascon, eating most of our dinners on our terrace. It was a good experience, and I certainly would return.

This apartment in Beaucaire gives you the best that Provence has to offer with great space and room for everyone! The apartment is decorated with inviting colors and all the amenities one could need. We were there in December (not exactly Provence's high-season), but getting to enjoy the Christmas lights and the local Fetes and street-fairs was amazing. I highly recommend renting this apartment. It was convenient and easy --plenty to do within walking distance and then short drives to all sorts of vineyards, other towns, and even the coast. In the summer, apparently, there's a bull run that passes right beneath this place.
