Nice stay at Roark Mountain

My wife and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary by booking a stay at Roark Mountain in late summer, 2011. The responses to our initial inquiry (as well as those subsequent) were very prompt, and booking the place was easy. We arrived in the evening in the rain/snow. Fortunately the directions provided were spot-on and finding the place was made easy. We immediately noticed that the pictures did not do the place justice; it is beautiful. I received a rare 'job well done' from the wife;) for my selection of the place. The next morning, to our delight, we awakened to about 2"-3" of fresh snow - one of the first of the season, I'm sure. The views of the 13,000+ foot peaks with snow on them the next morning were spectacular. We spent time over the next two days in the nearby (5-10 minutes) quaint town of Fairplay, as well as the more upscale Breckenridge, a mere 25 minutes away, with traffic even. There is plenty to do in the area. We spent our time enjoying Roark Mountain, exploring the area on foot, as well as taking our Jeep to get dirty on nearby four wheel drive trails such as Georgia Pass. We enjoyed our stay so much, we started looking for a place of our own nearby. Roark Mountain is a log home built in a beautiful setting and posses all of the comforts of home, while allowing you to get away from it all. I am interested in staying there again.

We stayed Aug. 8-12, 2011, excellent vacation cabin. The cabin is very clean and well kept, right in the middle of the mountains, beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife come to the property. Deer, 3 huge moose and a friendly red fox comes very early for breakfast. I will be back to stay again.

My husband and I spent the weekend of July 22nd at Roark Mountain. The cabin is situated directly next to a mountain stream that we could hear through our bedroom window at night. We loved the quiet...and I really mean quite. There was a great hiking trail at the end of the main road next to the cabin that took us above tree line. The views were magnificent with all the mountain wild flowers in bloom. Mr. Fox came by every morning to say "hello" and there were multiple families of chipmunks living nearby. Adorable! The cabin is only a few miles from town and there is a grocery store in case you forget something. We plan to go back in September for the fall leaves. Thanks Roarks!! Your piece of heaven is worth the visit!!

Mother-in-law Mountain Vacation

My husband & I took our mothers to Colorado for our 2011 Summer vacation. The cabin was everything and more than we expected. The cabin was pleasantly isolated in the mountain valley, but easy access to restaurants and shopping (Fairplay & Breckenridge). The only thing you need to take with you is food (and grilling utensils....lol). Everything else is there. Cabin was very clean. We even woke up on our first morning to SNOW. The temps were cool enough in the evening, we had the wood stove burning. We all enjoyed that very much. My mother-in-law even filled the hummingbird feeders and we enjoyed watching many Broad-tailed hummingbirds eat. I kept looking for a "MOOSE" . Saw a fox with "dinner" in his mouth on the run. The cabin is a great place to go and relax and enjoy the mountain views. The drive past the cabin, up the mountain is well worth while. We ate lunch in Breckenridge at BUBBA GUMP SHRIMP COMPANY and highly recommend it, great food and service. Easy access to sightseeing drives, such as: Copper Mtn., Buena Vista, Pikes Peak & Royal Gorge. My husband says that he would rate the cabin 6 stars if that was an option. We highly recommend everyone to go for a MOUNTAIN GETAWAY on ROARK MOUNTAIN!!! Thank you Roark family for a FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. The Everts Family

Forget the ski lodges and motels because this cabin has everything you could imagine if you're looking for a perfect getaway for the family! My wife and I ages 32 & 30 and two young boys ages 10 & 2 were looking to escape our busy lives around the Dallas/Ft Worth metro to the mountains of CO and we did not want the every day ski resort or motel atmosphere and cost associated but rather a place that felt like a home away from home. We found that this cabin fully met and exceeded all expectations of our dreams to have a white Christmas atop some of the most beautiful mountains in CO and yet we never felt like we were too far away from civilization. Access to ski lifts were only 30min away in beautiful Breckenridge, the friendly people of Fairplay, the coffee shops, beer/wine, grocery & hardware store, and even a pizza hut were only 10min away or less depending on the snow getting back down the mountain. Speaking of snow, WOW! Living in central TX we obviously don't see much snow, and even the threat of it causes all bad drivers to suddenly drive worse! Not in fairplay. They get snow and lots of it! There are the occasional drivers that I swear also come from TX who run off roads and such when the snow begins to fall but not me, I only slid off the driveway once ;) and I still can't figure that one out. 4x4 is recommended if you travel up there during the winter like we did but perhaps not mandatory as the roads are kept pretty clear daily by local county workers. There aren't words to explain how much we enjoyed the atmosphere, the cabin, the scenic disbelief every time we would look out of a window. We are definitely going back and probably twice per year. We're anxious to see everything again but this time during the summer along with the experience of the other seasonal activities that open up, rafting, hiking, etc.. I'll finish by saying that the Roarks are wonderful and extremely nice people. They were always a phone call away for us city slickers that had questions. Their cabin was extremely clean and tidy upon our arrival. We'll definitely be returning and honestly I absolutely cannot wait until we do. I still find myself looking at the live cam on their web site occasionally just to see all that snow and the mountains in the background, kinda makes me feel like I'm still there, other than the fact it's 76 degrees outside and still January. =)

The house, views, amenities, even the weather, was incredible! Lol. We went to Co. to experience the snow and cold since we live down south and dont get much snow. So when 10in fell two days after arriving we were more than happy to hole up by the woodstove and enjoy it. Jacuzzi tub, washer and dryer, fully furnished kitchen, even a friendly fox were highlights of the trip. Many thanks Roarks!

Awesome Week in Colorado

This rental was a great find for our week stay. We are jeep enthusiasts and the cabin is close to numerous jeep trails in the area. Fairplay shop owners were very friendly as we picked up last minute items before hitting the trail. The Fly Fishing shop, Yer-Flys-Open proprietor was more than helpful getting my brother-in-law started fishing. The town was just large enough to accommodate us with supplies for the week but small enough to feel like we were away from it all! The cabin is furnished and decorated wonderfully; we kept seeing new adornments daily! The cabin is very roomy and comfortable with up to date kitchen and appliances. The decks were an awesome place to start and end our days having splendid views in any direction. I especially liked the lower level room where my husband & I stayed with our little boy. It stepped right out towards the stream! We saw all types of animals too; deer, fox, birds, of course chip monks & moose. The extra treat was the creek that run through the property, its melody could be heard when everything got still in the evening! So many nice things to say I feel I'm forgetting something!! Whether you are looking for a base camp to regroup after an outing, a day in the wilderness or searching for a place to hibernate for a week this is a real winner!

Mike, I just wanted to thank you for the use of your cabin August 2010. As good if not better than advertised. Everyone of the seven in our party had a great time. We were looking for private place to enjoy hiking, animal watching (deer, elk moose, fox), star gazing, fishing, ... We were not disappointed. All this privacy and yet the hustle and bustle of Breckenridge is only 35 minutes away. We had heard moose frequented your seven acres and were on high alert the first few days. No sighting. While cooking breakfast one morning I notice movement out the front door. Low and behold the bull moose was in the front yard. He just stopped and let us take numerous pictures. After about 3 minutes he tired of all the fuss an did an about face and raced along the creek back to higher ground. I have already recommended your cabin to friends and family.

This rental is everything that is described and more. My family booked this cabin in June and really enjoyed our stay is this idyllic mountain retreat. The views are truly majestic. The cabin has all the amenities one could ask for. We especially enjoyed seeing all the wildlife (e.g., fox, deer, elk) that frequent the cabin. The location of the cabin is great. Minutes from Fairplay for convenient shopping. Close to Breckenridge and Buena Vista. A true mountain cabin experience within reach of civilization . I would definitely come back again.

The stay at the cabin in June was phenominal. The cabin was outstanding. The town was quiet. The location was just far enough away but not to far. It was a great experience. I have bragged about it to nearly everyone I have talked to since we returned to Texas. I am actually now looking at property in the area, nothing serious but getting ideas. Thanks again for sharing your cabin with us. Joel
