Why the Owner Chose Atenas

The vacation rental is a scenic 25 minute drive from the main airport and within walking distance to the town of Atenas.
Atenas has at least four markets and a 'mercado' i.e a central market where fresh meat and vegetables are available six days a week. The 'Feria', a farmer's market, takes place on Friday mornings. Vendors offer everything from fresh papaya to tasty Costa Rican snacks.
Buses in and out of Atenas are cheap and a taxi will take you anywhere in Atenas for under $2.00 (800 to 1000 colones). (When we're in Atenas we usually walk to town to shop and use a taxi to carry us and our groceries back to the house.)

The Unique Benefits at this House

National Geographic's claim that Atenas has '...the best climate in the world...' could well be true. While visitors at the beaches swelter in the heat and humidity, the cool breezes of Atenas, particularly at the hillside location of this vacation rental, are a welcome and refreshing respite from the tropical heat.

Owner's Map of Atenas

In late 2006 we discovered the town of Atenas and knew immediately that this was where we would eventually like to retire. The town of Atenas is quiet and has most amenities; the inhabitants gracious; a spectacular view from the house and the airport convenient.

Splendid site, beautiful landscape and very comfortable house with all the accessories in very good condition...we had the impression of being in our own house. We lived there for one month and we do not hesitate to recommand it to our best friends. We have a very good souvenir of our stay at Casa del Bosque. Jan.2010. We (2 couples) resided in Casa del Bosque for 10 days over the December 2009 holiday season. The home greatly exceeded our expectations--Spacious layout with bright high ceilings, large picture windows, charming décor and artwork, complete kitchen and infrastructure, and an uncompromising view of surrounding forest and valley below. Although many other homes in the Roca Verde community look down to neighboring large red roofs or power cables, this one’s view gave the feeling of a private sky ranch- nothing but sky, valley, Guanacaste trees, visiting birds and more. We enjoyed every patio breakfast with binoculars in hand; it was hard not to be late for our excursions to volcanoes, cloud forests and the coast. The sun rose from behind the patio cover and illuminated the garden and trees in front of us. I regret that I did not bring my digital recorder to capture the inspiring variety of enchanting bird and insect songs. In the evening we had a view of lights in the town below, and of a few shy little geckos that scurried along the exterior walls. The property manager was very accommodating. She answered an endless barrage of questions about Atenas and about more distant touristic points of interest. It was a special vacation, and it is hard to find a significant fault with the property. My brother-in-law is hoping to return and spend some time working on a manuscript—-the desk with that view plus wireless Internet would be all that he needs.

Great place. Has everything you would want except TV but who comes to this part of the world to watch TV anyway. Great owners. No problems. The view is fab. The frog showed up on the patio at night(see other comment). My wife and I were there for 2 weeks in Aug., 09. Highly recommend this rental.

Owner response:Casa Del Bosque now has cable TV!

My husband and I have just returned from our recent stay at Casa del Bosque - 15B. We loved it! We were traveling with another couple and we were all very comfortable. The house is bright with a well organized kitchen and spacious, handicapped accessible bathrooms. We especially enjoyed having our morning coffee on the terrace, listening to all the various birds and watching the butterflies in the lovely garden. Likewise, at night, we enjoyed our cocktails watching the twinkling lights on the hills and valleys around us. The picture on the web site does not depict the loveliness and serenity of the view. And a special treat is meeting "Newton the Frog". You will just have to visit yourself to understand this statement. If we visit Costa Rica in the future, Casa del Bosque will certainly be on the itinerary. It is a great home base for day tripping. After tackling the Costa Rican roads, how wonderful it was to return to our relaxing "home". Marsha and Bill 6/5/09
