The Thimble Islands are a unique group of summer homes, accessible only by boat from the main dock in Stony Creek, CT (Town of Branford). This home on Governor's Island, one of the larger islands with grass and trees, was built in 1898 by the owner's great-grandfather.
Islanders love bare feet, the water, swimming, sailing, kayaking, reading a book, gardening, sunsets, visiting with neighbors and unplugging from tv, computers and blackberries. Propane is fuel source for cooking and hot water. Low-voltage solar lighting inside the home also powers laptops or cell phones for recharging. A generator is used on a limited-basis for power tools. Drinking water comes from mainland.
Larger Unit includes a large eat-in back porch, living room, and large front porch.
Smaller Unit includes large kitchen, two bathrooms and bedrooms and sitting room.
The entire home with five bedrooms - sleeps 11 people - rents for $3,000/week.
A half-rental with three bedrooms is $2,000/week.

The owner Tracy was great. The house is very comfortable, plenty of room (s). The porch is amazing and the yard perfect for anything. All at once we had swimming off the dock, jarts on the lower lawn, scrabble on the porch, home run derby in the back lot and napping on the hammock in the shade. It’s a great place for a family gathering. If we were to do it again I think we would consider renting a boat to taxi back and forth and for the fun of it. We all had boat envy.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, families with young children.
