This custom built home located in The Shores of Shadow Mountain subdivision could be considered the perfect “home away from home”. It is only a 10 minute drive to town and just a short walk to the lake. Could it get any better?
When I arrived with my traveling companions, John, the homeowner greeted us and gave us a complete tour of this spectacular home. At one point, we gazed out the “crow’s nest” windows in awe of the lake and mountain views. We were blessed to see the amazing flight of a bald eagle (where was my camera when I really needed it- still packed).
The air was cold and crisp while the snow was sparkly and fresh. The lake views were breathtaking, especially one morning when the fog rolled off the lake. You could see the crystal trees that had been coated by frost as the fog moved across the lake and land.
This home featured exquisite furnishings and custom accents from top-to-bottom. Each bedroom was warm and welcoming. The master bedroom had a great breakfast/reading deck (which a furry bear like me can enjoy this time of year), and the master bathroom truly made me feel like royalty. The kitchen was beautiful and very well equipped with everything you could imagine to cook a meal. While we ate and played games, the fireplace located between the kitchen and the living room kept everyone nice and toasty. My favorite feature was the radiant floor heating; it was so wonderful to pad across the warm, cozy floors. I could have hibernated just resting on the radiant, warm floor.
Some of my companions enjoyed a morning of snowmobiling up on the trails and others took snowboarding lessons at Sol-Vista Ski Resort, which was only a 30 minute drive. We went bowling at the Grand Lake Bowling Alley and went sledding on the nearby sledding hill. However, the best part of the trip was hanging out and laughing together, in the warmth of this amazing “home away from home.”
Grand Lake was a very quaint small town, but still offered a couple of small grocery stores and several different restaurants. On our final night in Grand Lake, we went to town and dined at a Mexican restaurant called Poncho and Lefty’s. The food was very yummy.
You will not be disappointed with a stay in this exquisite home!

We stayed at this wonderful home between July 9-13, 2012. This was a family vacation for my two children and I. Being a single parent it is difficult finding a nice location where my 17 and 15 year old can enjoy the wonders of nature and put their cell phones down for 10 minutes. This home was just what we needed! First of all the pictures do not do it justice! The home is amazing in every way, the views are incredible and the amount of living space ... well let's just say it was overkill for 3 people. We arrived on the first day and went into the town of Grand Lake, the meals we had in town were amazing and it was only 5 minutes from the house. Make sure to try Sagebrush Cafe and Pancho and Lefty's for the fajitas's, amazing! We also enjoyed the Pizza place.... Whitewater river rafting in Kremmling was only 30 min away, please go with Mad Adventures they are the best there. We fished Lake Gramby and did several small hikes. Drove to Estes Park, highly recommend the Trail Ridge Route, amazing! John, the owner was very nice and provided us everything we needed for a trip that will long be remembered. We would love to visit again next year if it works out. Thank you for everything!Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

I wanted to thank you for the perfect house for our famillies. We had a great Peace Corps reunion and our children were safe and happy in your house. The huge kitchen and plenty of space for us to stretch out resulted in a no-stress five days. We also were able to drive and do day hikes- which was perfect. This is a beautiful home and perfect for large groups.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay at the house on Shadow Mountain Lake. The view was nice, we fit everyone into the house without a problem and it was clean and smoke free. Our girls all settled in – in fact my daughter wants to go back next year. I’m sorry to hear that the lock box is giving you a problem, we hope your next guests were able to get it open. Thanks again for the quick response, great communication, and professionalism. Cheers,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This house is truly amazing. The online pictures do not depict how beautiful this home is or the natural Colorado landscape that surrounds it. From the time we first contacted John to the time we left, he was helpful, caring, & honest. Since I am in a power wheelchair, I needed exact measurements of doorways, shower entries, hallway width, etc. He addressed my questions honestly...that I would have trouble with some entries. John even let us take the door off the master bathroom so I could squeeze through the doorway. Although I was unable to get in the master shower, my sons, their wives, & my grandchildren loved it. I did use the big, GRAND tub in there. Everywhere in the house there was attention to architectual & interior design. The elevator allowed me to participate in family activities on three of the four floors...a BIG plus! I could enter the front door ( no steps) or enter through the garage (no steps)....an unusual feature!!! I would suggest future renters bring a port-a-pot to set over the master toilet so they have handles to use as there aren't any bars. The kitchen walkway around the island was tight for my powerchair, but moving the chairs from the bar made it more accessible. Would I rent this property again? ABSOLUTELY!!! Our family had a GREAT time enjoying one another & interacting in this house & at Grand Lake.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

We rented this house for a Christmas Party/ mountain getaway for our volunteers who help us throughout the summer at our BBQ competitions. We rent many homes throughout the year, and this was by far the best! We did have a slight hiccup with the oven not working when we cooked our Monkey Bread in the morning, but being a competition BBQ team, we came prepared with our own smoker to cook our prime rib roasts for dinner. The house was beautiful and very clean. We were a party of 12 people, and we never felt crowded. We hope to be back! We didn't see any moose, but we loved the snow! Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I wanted to let you know that we had an absolutely fabulous time staying at your place in Grand Lake! We found a great spot (our own littlepeninsula) right on the water and spent all of Saturday lounging by Shadow Mountain Lake, swimming, playing games and making a Crayfish bake. We went into town on Sunday and then came back to the house to grill and watch a perfect view of the fireworks from the driveway. It was spectacular. The house was huge, the kitchen was perfect for all the cooking we did and we could not have had a better stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had the best time in your home on Shadow Mtn. It was our 50th anniversary and so all of our kids and grandkids were there. We had a moose sit at the bottom of the hill and just stare at the house. We had a mtn blue bird that flew over daily, The mtn swallows were beautiful in their bright green colors, the marmot that lives in the wood pile peeked at the kids everyday. They all caught fish in Shadow mtn lake we watched the osprey feed their babies in the nests. But best of all the big square table where we could play games and eat together was a great addition. Thanks for sharing this little bit of nature's paradise. PatDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: We love Colorado's mountain lake areas and we found ourselves spending so much time up here with our young family that we bought a cabin and then another and before long I was building, buying and selling throughout Grand County. This home is our latest design and was built by us to take advantage of its unique location. We are proud of the design and feel of the home and think you will love it too.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Lake:
Grand County is in very close proximity to the metro Denver area and is a year round playground... snow brings on cross-country and alpine skiing (Sol Vista & Winter Park) and snowmobiling on over 100 miles of groomed trails.
The summer months we can play in and on the lake, out on the islands and of course the magnificent Rocky Mountain National Park. Locals will ride ATV's, take hikes, fish (rivers and lakes abound) and play on their jet skis and power boats and don' forget sailing on magnificent Grand Lake. Spring brings it's flowers and in the fall we have some of the most outstanding aspen seasons along with the elk rooting in RMNP so it is a true 4 season destination.
The Fall season is wonderful with the highlight being the Aspens and Elk rutting in RMNP.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
-Access to the public dock at the south shore of Shadow Mountain Lake -proximity to the Town of Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park -one of the best subdivisions in Grand County -snowmobiling on the lake (during certain times of the year) -hiking to Adams Falls & Monarch Lake
