Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1992

I am a career educator and artist with many years of living and traveling in Mexico. My family and I drove the Baja Peninsula and camped along the Sea of Cortez for many years before I found Los Barriles and bought property there.

Why the Owner Chose Los Barriles

The first time I visited the Los Barriles area, I fell in love with the simplicity of the landscape: desert turning into clean white sand beaches! The people are so helpful and welcoming, and the ex-patriot U.S. community is well established and works in harmony with the community. Many years ago when I bought my property and began building the house, there were not many things available in Los Barriles, one had to travel to Cabo San Lucas or La Paz to purchase essential items. Now, anything you need you can find in Los Barriles! We even have ATM's and Banks. Yet the simplicity of the community has not essentially changed. This is not a party town, the streets roll up by 9 P.M., yet there are many places to eat and socialize. The beaches are clean and beautiful and unpopulated, the sport fishing industry is local and decades old, Pangas work out of the hotels and there are independent boat captains who will take fishermen out for marlin, dorado and sierra all Summer and all year. Snorkeling can be done anywhere along the shore in the area, and dive centers are also available in Spa Buena Vista and in Cabo Pulmo. Windsurfers have been visiting Los Barriles for years as the wind blows over the Sea of Cortez from October to May. The town is located close enough to San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas for day trips to the south. North of town 1.5 hours is La Paz, a colonial city and port with the feel of mainland Mexico.
