Remote and convenient? It is possible. Relax at unpopulated beach, looking for shells, sunbathing, snorkeling, just outside of Los Barriles-- a sweet fishing village with many amenities! Or go into town for margaritas and socializing. Los Barriles has many restaurants, in a wide range from taco stands to formal dining.
Onda Rocks is a great house for kids, for a fishing trip with the guys, or a kitesurf heaven! This is a Mexican home built in the Mexican style- no hallways, all rooms open to the central patio. There is a great room connected to a full kitchen. A large comfy sofa, a dining table all connect for maximum space and family time or hanging-out time. The master bedroom is connected to this great room area and has a walk in closet and bathroom with shower. There is a smaller back patio that the great room doors open onto.
The central patio has a trickling fountain under giant palm trees- the perfect place to sit and sip on a Pacifico or a Margarita.
Two bedrooms are off this patio and share a bathroom with a shower. One bedroom has a built-in bunk over a twin bed, the other has a twin bed also. A third bedroom is off the patio it has a double bed, air conditioning and a full size shower.
In addition the property has many natural trees and bird watching is no harder than sitting in the yard.

We stayed at Onda Rocks for 4 months this winter 2012. Onda Roocks is a real Mexican style home; all rooms open to aa big enclosed courtyard w/fountain and 2large palm trees. The house has everything supplied, linens, kitchen supplies,. there are 2 large bedrooms w/full baths and 2 smaller bedrooms w/ bath between. The art/paintings give it a unique character, though this is a very casual home. We appreciated the large enclosed grounds which gave us secure parking for our 4 rigs and toys. It is only. 3 min walk to the beach and a short drive into town. The owner could not have been more helpful before and during our stay!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

My husband, me and my niece's family stayed at Onda Rocks.(7 people) We had a great time. We did not sleep well on the beds. We had no water every day from about 5 PM to 10 PM( municipal water), there were very few clean towels, not enough blankets and one lawn chair. The oven doesn't work and we were there for Christmas. ( we would have done a turkey if we could have)We had a difficult time finding the house the first night because it was dark. The home was clean and we liked the location. We would recommend this property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: The municipal water in this area can be shut off with no notice, but it usually is off between 3 pm and 7 pm and filling jugs of water to prepare for the possibility is always a good idea. Additional towels and linens have been purchased for larger groups to have adequate towels. Blankets are kept in a trunk in the master bedroom for cooler nights. The oven has been repaired and is fully functional now. The property is in a more rural area so there are no street lights for arrival after dark. There are other homes close by, however. If we are notified that you will be arriving after dark, we will be sure the lights in the house are on.

I have stayed here TWO times now, and I have fallen in love with it's unique appeal! This is the perfect Baja beach home! From the comfortable spacious inside to the zen-like central patio (equipped with a gorgeous mosaic fountain), this is by far the best house on the block! It’s charm and individuality make for a familiarity that makes one feel immediately as though they are at a home away from home. Some of the best snorkeling I've seen on the rocky reef beach footsteps from the front entrance. The native birds are bright, beautiful, and always flying around the patio and front yard. The town, Los Barriles, is not too close but not too far either. There is a supermarket in town and the house kitchen has amenities plentiful enough to stay in and cook or barbeque, but you must try the fish tacos in town.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

My two friends and I stayed in this lovely home for a week in June and had a great time! The house is very comfortable, even in the summer heat! We felt well provided for and right at home in a very short time. Los Barriles, the nearest town has a few great places to eat, including El Viejo and La Curva. We loved having the beach so close, less than a 5 minute walk! The yard is perfect for barbecuing and laying the hammock, while the courtyard with its pink fountain is the best place to relax, drink margaritas and look at the stars. Spacious kitchen for cooking. Over all, great house, I would definitely stay here the next time I come down!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 1992
About the owner: I am a career educator and artist with many years of living and traveling in Mexico. My family and I drove the Baja Peninsula and camped along the Sea of Cortez for many years before I found Los Barriles and bought property there.
Why the Owner Chose Los Barriles:
The first time I visited the Los Barriles area, I fell in love with the simplicity of the landscape: desert turning into clean white sand beaches! The people are so helpful and welcoming, and the ex-patriot U.S. community is well established and works in harmony with the community. Many years ago when I bought my property and began building the house, there were not many things available in Los Barriles, one had to travel to Cabo San Lucas or La Paz to purchase essential items. Now, anything you need you can find in Los Barriles! We even have ATM's and Banks. Yet the simplicity of the community has not essentially changed. This is not a party town, the streets roll up by 9 P.M., yet there are many places to eat and socialize. The beaches are clean and beautiful and unpopulated, the sport fishing industry is local and decades old, Pangas work out of the hotels and there are independent boat captains who will take fishermen out for marlin, dorado and sierra all Summer and all year. Snorkeling can be done anywhere along the shore in the area, and dive centers are also available in Spa Buena Vista and in Cabo Pulmo. Windsurfers have been visiting Los Barriles for years as the wind blows over the Sea of Cortez from October to May. The town is located close enough to San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas for day trips to the south. North of town 1.5 hours is La Paz, a colonial city and port with the feel of mainland Mexico.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
After living and traveling in Mexico for many years, I based the design of this home on the houses I had seen in Central Mexico. This is not an American tract home, this is an authentic Mexican home built in the Mexican style: metal and glass doors, tile floors and a central patio. Many native trees were left on the property as well as cactus to retain the local ambiance! This is the home where you want to stay to feel the simplicity and richness of the Mexican culture while you enjoy Los Barriles and the surrounding area.
