About Sicily:
Sicily is the largest and most important island in the Mediterranean, it extends for 25,460sq km. Planes of fertile red soil, excellent for the cultivation of vine grapes, citrus orchards and olive groves, alternate with hills, green in spring for the cultivation of wheat and, among the majestic mountains, Mount Etna, the most popular of active volcanoes. The climate is typically Mediterranean along the coasts, with mild, short winters and moderate rainfall.
Near-by centres:
Palermo, 1.500.000 inhabitants, capital of Sicily – an island in the sea of sunlight – is a splendid city adorned in the course of 2500 years by Greeks, Arab Emirs, Norman Kings and Spanish Viceroys; it offers an incomparable example of beauty, history, culture and traditions to excite the mind and the eye. It has a wide selection of museums and entertainment. Casteldaccia is well connected to Palermo by freeway and by public transportation.
Close-by centres are: Santa Flavia and Solunto, with its Graeco-Roman archaeological site, 3 km west; Bagheria, an active and very alive town, ideal for elegant shopping, with its seventeenth century scenographic mansions once summer retreat of the Palermitan aristocracy, 5 km west; Porticello, a delightful fisherman village, 3 km west; Aspra, another unspoiled fisherman village, 5 km west; and Altavilla, with its Sanctuary to the Holy Mary, 2 km east. All are offering plenty of tourist attractions.
Excursions:
Casteldaccia is east of Palemo, so you will be closer and will not meet the city traffic when driving for a day trip to Cefalu`, Taormina, Mount Etna, Siracusa, Agrigento, Selinunte.
We recommend excursions to: Palermo e Monreale (20 km), Cefalu` (50 km), Segesta, Agrigento, Madonie Natural Park (80 km), Taormina (200 km), Mount Etna (200 km), Siracusa (250 km), Eolie Islands.

Come to Sicily for a Fantastic Holiday in Italy!
Why the Owner Chose Palermo
The house, built in 1965, was my first project, after I graduated in Architecture!
For 10 years, during summer, I ran in the garden a ‘Scuolina’, a free Art School for the children of Casteldaccia and nearby towns, teaching drawing, painting and ceramics.
Every year I return with my family to this house and to Casteldaccia to restore my energy and get in touch with my roots.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
My home is located off the main road of Casteldaccia, at walking distance from all the stores. At the same time allows me to retreat at home in the paradise of my subtropical garden.
Casteldaccia is close to Bagheria, a larger town, where I can go shopping, and still enjoy the fresh air of the countryside.
Palermo, the capital of Sicily, is only 20 minutes away from my reach, with its history, culture and traditions, restaurants, museums, churches, squares.
Owner's Map of Palermo
The garden has been in my family since the year 1725, date of the foundation of the town of Casteldaccia.
I grew up and played every summer with my brother and my cousins in this garden, at that time much larger. Many years later, also my children played in it every summer. Many of my fondest memories are connected to this garden.

Dear Carlo, Thank you for making such excellent arrangements for us. And thank you to all your family for your hospitality. It is a delightful house - like a tree house, but more commodious than any we remember. We will not comment much more on Sicilian driving, except to say that we think it is more a result of fear of Mr. Toad, rather than an exceptionally large number of Mr. Toads. I'm sure you will have a much better understanding. Arrivederci. P.S. All the recommended food shops are very good. we particularly liked the Vini ed Olii shop and the wood oven baker behind the church (his sweet stuff is also excellent) Two guests from UK: Michael and Rebecca

Thank you so much for letting us rent out the cozy studio apartment. We came to Sicily for our honeymoon and have enjoyed the country. We have eaten wonderful food, toured (almost) all of the sites and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The people here in Casteldaccia have been very friendly. Thank you to Alessandra for arranging the surprises - champagne and flowers from family back home. We have had a lovely time and thank you again for sharing this beautiful home, garden and town with us. From the Great White North Two guests from Canada: Jon and Erin in honeymoon

Dear Maria and Carlo, We really had a good time in your studio, it has been a perfect size for our family. Our children were happy staying in our bed and the sofa bed because we were together and it was easier for us to wake up in the night! It's good to have your space when you are travelling all the day, it's like you arrive at home! It's a pity for us to leave so soon because now we are getting used to the Italian driving, the food and to get situated in the zone. We are leaving one day earlier because our flight is a bit earlier and we want to stop in Selinunte and Marsala before to go. We have to come back to Sicily again sure but maybe when our child it would be older! We have much to see yet. Thank you for your hospitality, to give us the opportunity to live in a no touristic town! Thanks to Alessandra and Manuela also. P.S. We like your pictures on the wall! Sincerely. We, a family of four, arrived late and welcomed the patiences from Manuela and Alessandra. Thank you! Enjoyed settling into our apartment home for the second leg of our vacation in Italy. Town very friendly! Visited Segesta, wonderful / Erice, touristy / Palermo, exciting to drive and historic / Cefalu` and all the secret beautiful beaches e.g. San vito Lo Capo. Once settled into our routine sipping Aperol before dinner and Amaro Lucano after, made me feel Italiano!

Thank you for your friendly welcome. We had a bonus - the first to use the suitcase hoist! We managed to explore much of Sicily during our month here. Siracusa, Taormina, Etna, Erice, Selinunte, Agrigento... Casteldaccia was great to use as base. The breeze on the terrace was wonderful during the heat of August. We cooked and ate on the terrace every night. Special thanks to Alessandra. Arrivederci.

After a fairly uneventful flight we saucezed ourselves into a crowded (overcrowded) minibus and picked up the hire car. Drove through Palermo and arrived at Maria and Riccardo’s just before midnight. I’m pleased to say it was worth it! Maria and Riccardo are lovely people and Sicily is beautiful (although the drive to the best beaches was some way and the beaches were not always clean). People are friendly and the roads are good. Mount Etna was FANTASTIC! (you must go) but make sure you go with a guide (we had Giuseppe who was great). It is easy to get lost on a mountain, believe me! Everything was as we expected and the weather was kind to us (sunny everyday but two). It is worth coming to Maria’s and Ricardo’s because they are both such nice, generous people. Guests: Geoff and Frances from Hethersett, Norwich Norfolk, UK

Dave has always dreamed of visiting Italy, especially Sicily, to see where his family came from, and being able to meet his relatives has been a real treat! We cannot have imagined more beautiful people and exceptional hospitality. Thank you so much and please visit us in Utah – in snow or desert! (by Susan) Riccardo and Maria – Thank you so much for your hospitality! We love your town of Casteldaccia as the wonders of Sicily. We will be back and spend some more time here exploring all there is to explore. We scheduled way too little time to be here at this time – but it was great to see you, Robert, Armando and all! Will stay in touch! Grazie! (by Dave) Guests: Dave and Susan from Utah, USA
