Why the Owner Chose West Tisbury
We decided it was time to finally after 50 years of renting to buy a house. Since we knew we would rent the house in the summer season we looked specifically for a house that would be especially appropriate and meet the needs of renters who wanted a comfortable, luxury experience while on the Vineyard. We chose a house that had central air, great floor plan for maximum privacy for everyone, a huge back yard, fantastic eat-in kitchen, and we put considerable dollars into adding a master suite with gorgeous stone en suite master bath complete with skylights. We also installed new wood floors throughout. Put in new Kohler Memoirs fixtures in the huge hall bath with jacuzzi and separate multi jetted shower by Kohler.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Because we have a lot of professional experience in the luxury hotel and travel industry we decided to create the same kind of experience, feel, and amenities in this house. We selected a combination of antiques and Pottery Barn furniture to create an environment of casual elegance yet kid friendly. We purchased high end fine linens with a minimum of 400 thread count sheets and luxury stiking and decorative top of the bed linens from Pottery Barn. We include other luxury hotel like amenities such as soft Egyptian towels, soaps, shampoos, etc.
The location is wonderful! It's a short bike ride, walk or drive to legendary Alley's Store, a real New England general store where one of everything is for sale. The Farmer's and Craft Markets are located near Alley's as is the excellent library with a rentable DVD collection aside from books and a wonderful Children's Room. West Tisbury is perfectly situated in the center of the island, meaning you are never more than 10 minutes from the down island towns of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs or up island Chilmark, Menemsha fishing village (the freshest fish in the world at Larsen's!) or the glorious Gay Head cliffs in the town of Aquinnah.
This house offers the perfect location for a family, multi-generational family to enjoy a peaceful luxury experience while close to everything on Martha's Vineyard.

We first met on Menemsha Beach when we were teenagers. We married, had kids and the Vineyard was always a special place for our family on vacation. We rented houses every year for 50 years but we never bought a home (regrettably) until 2007 when we decided to move from New York City to the Vineyard year round. A number of our friends since childhood also were "retiring" to their homes here, so winter is actually full of activity nowadays.
Our plan was/is to rent the house during the summer season while we are in Spain following the pursuit of flamenco. The photo shows us at a ceremony at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, DC where Brook has just been knighted by Juan Carlos I, the King of Spain for his life long "dissemination of Spanish culture in the U.S.".
