Summer Home Away from Home

My husband and I and our 3 children have been going to this cottage for 2 weeks in early summer for the past 16 years, along with my parents and a rotating list of my siblings. It really feels like our summer home. This comfortable, clean, well kept cottage easily sleeps 8 and has plenty of room so that on rainy "inside days" you are not tripping over each other. Having 2 baths AND an outside, private shower(my favorite) makes cleaning up after a day on the beach a breeze. While there are several restaurants within easy driving, and a few walking, distance we tend to stay "home", the kitchen is stocked for any type of cooking, there is a gas grill as well as a charcoal one and lets face it the views are spectacular. Sitting on the deck, a glass of wine, the smell of dinner on the grill and the moonlight coming up over the water... why would you go out? Our kids were 4,6,8 when we started and days were full of beach going, bike riding, kite flying and our yearly whale watching trip. Now they are 20, 22 and 24 and days are still full with golfing, kayaking, wind-surfing, biking on the very close Cape Cod bike trail, hiking on nearby Monomoy Wildlife Refuge and yes our yearly trip to P -Town to see the whales and window shop. Though they can no longer stay the whole 2 weeks they will not miss being there for at least part of it, as one of them said "it wouldn't be summer without going to "our cottage" I would be remiss if I didn't mention the owner Steve, he always stops by to make sure everything is OK, if I even mention that the gas for the grill is low or the washer and dryer in the basement needs detergent it is replaced that day or by the latest the next. He really cares that you have a great, stress free time. Over the course of 16 years he has made several upgrades, AC, new kitchen, new furniture, big screen HD TV's and so it has become a tradition that on our drive there we try to guess what new surprise Steve may have in store for us this year and 2011 was no exception. New deck furniture for the second deck so you feel you are up in a captains chair looking out at the ocean... the new favorite morning coffee spot. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed.

My husband Paul and I have been renting this cottage for 10 days each year for the past 26 years. Steve has become family and returning to this cottage is like coming home. The cottage is located on the beach with an uninterrupted view of the ocean and, on a clear day, Monomoy Island. The Master bedroom includes a connecting bathroom, and with the addition of the sliders, easy access to the yard overlooking the beach. Several years ago, the garage was converted into a second large bedroom, making this a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage. There are 3 large screen TV's, one in the living room and one in each of the large bedrooms. The addition of wireless access was a welcome addition that allows us to stay in touch with family if we want. The kitchen has been redesigned and opens into the dining room that seats 8-10 comfortably. With the addition of the sliders and new windows off the dining room, the living room is comfortable, well lit and airy. The gas fireplace adds just the right ambiance for those nights when the chill comes off the water. Close to shopping, once the kitchen is stocked, there is no need to ever go anywhere in your car until you unfortunately are heading home. If you do choose to go sightseeing, Route 6 is conveniently close and takes you anywhere on the Cape. The smell of the ocean is crisp and clean. The sound of the seagulls can either be a welcome melody or an annoying cascade of noise that will leave you without any doubt of being 'On the Ocean'. The warmth of the cottage continues to bring us back year after year. If you are looking for a four star hotel with starched sheets, concierge service and stale air conditioned air this lovely cottage is not for you. If you are looking for the perfect place to bring your family for a relaxing beach experience, this is the place for you. Just don't try to rent during our 10 days. We will never give those days up. Linda

We have been staying at this cottage for over 25 years. We love it, our children love it and now the grandchildren love it.One son and new wife spent their honeymoon here. We have never had any major problem and if something was wrong all we did is report it and the matter was taken care of immediately. It is a lovely location for sight seeing, biking, walking, whale watching, fishing, kayaking, golfing and anything else. The kitchen is equipped for just about any type of cooking including the outside gas grill. There are many good restaurants within 20 to 30 minutes but we find many days we are so comfortable we just have a cocktail and watch the sunset right at home. ENJOY!

Just got back from our one week stay in this cottage. The reasons for the "good" rating is primarily due to the Mid-Cape, waterfront location of this cottage. It can't be beat! HOWEVER, be aware that one of the twin bedrooms (shown in pics) is a railroad room. You have to barge through it to get to the bedroom with the king bed. The listing states air conditioning and it is central, except for the king bed room. There is no heat in that room and we found the a/c in the closet. The main bathroom is teeny, tiny. The stall shower is less than 30" square, the area for the comode is much tighter and there's a large window at knee level so if you're not careful, EVERYONE in the compound knows what you're doing. Keep that shade down! I had to impose on our other couple to use their facilities. No hair dryers; we had to have the management office call the owner to locate the remote for the DVD player AFTER we went out and bought a 3-way outlet to accomodate the TV, Cable box and the DVD player; bad ant problem in the kitchen (we kept everything in the fridge or micro) and there were no instructions for the gas fireplace. That was just the cottage. As for Dennis Seashores, we felt that they keep the property perfectly. They're sweet & friendly; just a pleasure. Oh, yea, don't count on the WiFi. Unless it's a perfectly clear day AND you stand in front of the garage or behind the windmill office, you won't get access. I think that we're going to have to find another place to stay. For reasons of allergies, we need A/C so, we took this cottage. The only one with it. If the other cottages would provide A/C, I'd consider going back. Otherwise, no.

Our family stayed here last year for a week and had Thanksgiving there. We also got married on the beach!!! It is a beautiful place and the ocean is steps away. The owner could not have been nicer and we had a wonderful time staying there. One of the the best, if not the best, vacation we have ever had!!!
