My family and I had a lovely stay. The location was perfect for us, liked the feeling of being secluded but at the same time we had groceries, fresh seafood and a decent little gym nearby. The views were also beautiful. My son's words after he checked out the house and picked everyone's rooms were: "This is a really good road trip daddy! Good job!" I think his statement sums it all up! Thank you!

March 2013 Vacation at Heron's Roost

I just completed a week's stay at the Heron's Roost with my wife, my sister and her husband and my cousin and his wife. Our stay was just what we were looking for. The home and the amenities were as depicted in the photos and descriptions. The location (MM21.5) was far enough from Key West that the ambience was not affected by the hub bub that was present there during spring break week. But It was just a short drive to KW and we did venture there on a Saturday afternoon. Although enjoyable for a short time we much preferred the quieter existence the Roost provided. Back on Cudoe Key, guides were available at reasonable prices, but we rented kayaks and explored the area from the waterside on our own time and at our own pace. That gave us plenty of time to stop and take in the natural habitat - interesting waterfowl, marine life and iguanas the size of small allegators. We did go to the public beach one day at Behai State Park. Not much expanse of sandy beach, but the water was a beautiful turquoise and very comfortable at 73 degrees. Still though, we enjoyed our time around pool at the Roost more. As to dining, we did make use of the BBQ grill provided on two occasions, but the other evenings we dined out at various establishments: The Square Grouper, Boondock's, Mangrove Mama's, Crab Shack and Taste of Paradise. All are within 5-10 minutes of the house and we found all to provide good food at reasonable prices. Mind you, none are fancy and if you're looking for white linen service you won't find it here. This is sand, beach and water country and that's what the local establishments portray. And there are no fast food, franchise restaurants. These are local, mom and pop types. All's good, all enjoyable and we do intend to book another week's stay next year.

A WEEK IN PARADISE

I have stayed in homes (Villas) from the Caribbean to Canada and quite a few in the Keys. Your home stands out as the best, it lacks nothing. The landscaping is beautiful and keeps the property very private, the pool is crystal clear and at a perfect 86 temperature, the furniture is beautiful, but what really impressed everyone in our group were your personal touches, the ceramics, beautiful pictures, gorgeous dishes on the walls, the wicker tables and I could keep going. Everything in your home is modern, well kept and spotless. We spent a few hours at Honda Bahia park, great beach with plenty to do. Took your advice on the Square Grouper resturant, food was very good. Mallory Square and Duval St, it was all good and looking foward to another stay. Beautiful house, exactly as pictures show, great location. No beach area. Old deck had nails popping up everywhere which caused one in party a nasty cut on bottom of foot. Just before arrival we were told No Music outside & you had to close windows if you wanted to play music indoors ...

Owner response: So I'm left hanging with your 'review'. We have a sandy area down by the water, not a 'beach' in the technical sense. You were there 4 days and we walked in the door as you left with a crew of people to do the 3 month maintenance, painting, carpentry, rug cleaning and you and I talked about the nails in the deck being on the list. Not sure this is noteworthy to put in a review when this was 'on the list' etc And as far as music, yes, this is a neighborhood with people living next door. Even though we are very private and have an acre, we ask that people be courteous and not play music outdoors so as to disturb the neighbors, as it says soft music that can't be heard over the boundaries of the property is fine. Anyone renting legally in the Keys will see that this is on their license, but thanks for bringing that up, I'm sure people are also fascinated by that comment. Three women alone in the house and you're commenting on the music? Sometimes it baffles me the things people come up with to write about. You gave us four stars and never said a word about the wonderful property and landscaping, impeccable housekeeping, clean, warm swimming pool, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, decor etc etc I would urge our readers read our dozens of others comments for a true picture of what you'll find here.

Beautiful and Secluded Home

We were 100% satisfied with this beautiful home. We loved the privacy of the grounds. The home and pool was clean and perfect for us 4 adults. Plenty of seating in shade also. Dryer was broken upon arrival but fixed promptly. Linda, the owner was excellent in communicating during the whole rental process. We were close enough to Key West to go in 4 times during our week. We all highly recommend this home if you want privacy. We had a friend from home who lived nearby and she told us all about the blimp and Blimp Road which is a boat launch and snorkeling site. We definitely would recommend to friends and relatives.

Thanks so much for your hospitality. The house was amazing, clean and in a perfect location. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the area. It was exactly as we imagined it to be from your photos. Two days after we left, we were already talking about coming back. Having a week away from our daily lives: work, school and children, we were able to rejuvenate ourselves laying in the pool, sunbathing and evenings in Key West. Thank you!!

We Highly Recommend This Keys Vacation Home

We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our stay here. It’s an ideal spot for a Keys get-away -- located just about 20 miles north of Key West and close to the nature and beaches of Cudjoe Key, Big Pine Key and Bahia Honda Key. The house is nicely furnished and maintained with everything you’ll need to make your stay comfortable. It was spotless and easy to quickly make ourselves feel right at home. The location is private and nicely landscaped. The pool was nicely heated as promised -- a bonus for our January visit. We highly recommend Heron’s Roost for a fun and memorable Keys vacation.

This home and property are absolutely amazing. We just spent a long weekend at Herons Roost and had a wonderfiul relaxing time. The heated pool was the perfect temperature and we definetly took advantage of it. The house was immaculate, and very comfortable , especially with the deck off the back of the house, the view was amazing. The grounds were very well maintained and attractive. Linda the owner was extremely helpful and informative. We recommend this great vacation home to anyone looking for a private, relaxing vacation in the keys!! It would also be great for families, especially with the ping pong table and all of the pool toys.We will absolutley be looking to spend another vacation here.

This property was well represented by the owner with no surprises. We enjoyed watching the crabs and iguanas in the yard. We did not consider them to be dangerous since we could not get very close to them.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Owner response: You're right we have a veritable tropical haven for crabs, iguanas, ibis, pelicans, sea gulls, lizards and all manner of fish. So glad you enjoyed the beauty. Linda

Every year our family takes a vacation so some new, exotic, peaceful, relaxing getaway. We picked a great spot here to spend our vacation. Our stay was more than relaxing. It was rejuvenating. Refreshing. The kids loved snorkeling and fishing off the dock. The adults loved resting in the hammock. And everyone loved swimming in the pool. There's nothing like the beauty of the keys and your property and house to make new memories in...to sum it up, we had a blast!!!

We had a great time at the "Roost!" It was beautiful - spacious, relaxing, private, lovely pool, great view, amazing tropical landscaping. It was very clean, well-maintained, and is was more beautiful than the photos. The landscaping made us feel like we were in our own private tropical paradise! It is close enough to Key West; a favorite place for us to eat out and shop. The dock was a beautiful place to watch the sunset, and also watch fish and sea life in the water. The covered parking was also a plus. We want to return next year. We highly recommend!

I loved everything about Heron's Roost and Cudjoe Key. The fishing was great! I loved the heated pool and I really liked the house! The food at the Square Grouper was very good. The house was just the right size for the 5 of us. It was attractive and clean. AC worked great. Great entertaining and seating area outside. Very nice property, great getaway

The property is very nice, although it is a little mis-leading that it has a private beach. Beach at the property is little pebbles and no real easy access to the water except from the boat dock. The pool is amazing. Be prepared to share the property with sand crabs, geckos and iguanas. The animals just roam and the sun setting from the 2nd story deck is unbelievable. We would definite consider renting the property again.

Owner response: This is not misleading. I call it a sandy beachy area and explain to people that in the Keys there are no stretches of beaches with houses on them that you walk on like on from one property to another the west coast. Just private sand areas on our own properties. The 'pebbles' are bits of coral mixed in with the sand since these are coral islands one should expect that.

The house was clean, comfortable and spacious. The pool was warm, easily viewed from the upper deck and immaculate. The dock worked out great but you have to respect the tides if you have a big boat. Entering the bay at super low tide can get you in trouble, especially if you've been partying in Key West all day on your boat. We plan on coming back.

Great family vacation home

My chidren and grandchildren and I had a wonderful March vacation at the Heron's Roost. The house itself was warm, modern and cosy, but spacious. We were able to cook a lot in the kitchen because it had so many of the requisite kitchen tools. Linda was very easy to work with, which I appreciated as the trip coordinator. The pool was such a wonderful place to talk and play with the littlest ones in the family. It was VERY warm during some of the chilly days when we were there, so we were able to swim during every day of the vacation. Finally, I have to say that I was a little tentative when I read on the house description that children could sleep in the master bedroom closet. Maybe I've read too many gothic novels, but I was horrified at the prospect. I was very pleasantly surprised that it was a very big, empty walk-in closet with plenty of good lighting in which my granddaughters loved sleeping. It was their own little private space that was safely tucked in, close to their parents. In conclusion, instead of the rustic place that I was expecting, Heron's Roost was a beautifully decorated home-away-from-home that was close to everything we wanted to experience in the Keys. The only caveat I'd give is that there are MANY steps up to the house entrance, so it would not be good for the disabled.

Linda, Our visit was perfect. The house is perfectly located to provide access to great diving, snorkelling, and lobstering. The view from the balcony is marvelous, the kitchen/dining room layout was perfect and we loved the big table where we could all eat together. Thanks for sharing with us!

Your place at Cudjoe Key is wonderful. My family had a great time there. With the weather being colder the pool ended up being a huge draw for the kids (and adults). Nice place. Thanks!

Linda Herons Roost was just what we needed. Our son had just returned from his 3rd tour in Iraq..felt like he had been out of touch with the extended family for several years and wanted a Keys reunion. The property was perfect for our needs...dockage for both of our boats worked well and the Kayak people you recomended were great. You'll see us again! Thank You!

House is even better in person. Very, very clean & lots of room. The view from the upstairs deck (& master bedrm)...well, I could stay there for a month. Downstairs and pool area is perfect; the best grounds/landscaping I've seen at any of the Keys rentals we've ever stayed. Thinking of 2 weeks next year instead of 1 :-)

HI Linda We have arrived and its beautiful we are all over the moon, its amazing here, we had lunch just down the road at sugarloaf key yesterday, as stupidly we missed the restaurant you recommended in marathon, but what a fab place we ate at , just loved it, great food. Linda, Thanks so much for sharing the Roost with us. While the weather did not cooperate for half of our visit, we took the time to enjoy more time than expected in Key West. We certainly appreciated the sunset celebrations, shopping, interesting restaurants and people watching only 20 minutes away. We also appreciated the warm pool and the bay views from the Roost and even the view of Fat Albert the Cuban propaganda broadcast blimp. Your restaurant recommendations and recommendations for activities were a big help and we enjoyed several restaurants we might not have otherwise tried. The lobster reuben was in fact very good. The house is beautiful and immaculately clean with all facilities inside and outside - we are all over the moon, its amazing here, we had lunch just down the road at sugarloaf key yesterday, a recommended restaurant - fab authentic and great food. we loved it. Your pictures on the internet do not do this place justice, now we can all just relax! The property is ideally located for restaurants and supermarkets , the pool is heated so great for the kids evening swimming - and us adults too!!!Many thanks Linda cant wait to come here again x

Heron's Roost is fantastic - everything was perfect. The weather was splendid and we had a well equipped kitchen and the place was so clean it was great. Close proximity to Key West was great for day trips to the city....don't miss Blue Heaven and Carolines for a taste of Key West 915 was also great as was Louie's Backyard, pricier. Go to Cuba, Cuba and the woman there will give you good advice as to where to go.

We just got back from an awesome week at the Roost! We all had a wonderful time and were quite impressed on how well kept the home & grounds are. We took a few of your suggestions and went on a kayaking tour with Captain Marcus...what a great tour, well worth it! We also went on the sunset jetski tour...I never saw a sunset so beautiful! My oldest son went scuba diving with JB at Underseas, what a wonderful lady. My youngest went on his first fishing trip with Captain Bill, he was all smiles when he came ashore. We bought a few subs at Murray's, the meat & bread was so fresh. I also got some type of oreo dessert they sold in the deli case, it was to die for. I don't even want to think of the calories. I am already thinking of our next trip down to the Keys. Thanks again, Roberta McLean

Dear Linda, My comments are a little late. But we had the most wonderful time in your homes. We had two families w/children and we were all able to enjoy the pool and both homes. Beautiful spot and I look forward to coming back w/my husband and the rest of our family. thanks again, deb roedel

Thanks for allowing us to stay in this beautiful house. Everything is set up so nicely and equipped so well. We also appreciate all of the tips as to where to go & what to do, as well as where to eat. We look forward to cokming back some day and if we do we hope to stay here. Thanks again.

Thank you so much. The grounds were beautiful. Everyone said they cant remember when they had so much fun. Thank you for giving me Soo's name for other cottage because we all got to stay in reach of each other. The pool was beautiful and so were the houses. Thank you! We had a great time. You have a lovely home and all the items we needed to make our stay comfortable. We had such a relaxing week, we loved the views, the pool, the sand, the toys, the home was cozy. I could go on and on. It is so convienient having the little store close by for late night treats. Linda, We're back into our routines and trying to keep warm by thinking of our terrific week at Herons' Roost. We really had a great time. The home and pool were everything you said they'd be. We all enjoyed ourselves very much. Be sure to tell your future guests to visit the Blue Hole, We didn't see any Key Deer there, but we did see 2 crocodiles, a large iguana, and a number of large turtles. It's just down the road frome the Winn Dixie on Big Pine Key. Also thanks for reccommending Cabots, we had a great lunch there. Thank you for providing such a great vacation spot: we're definitely thinking that this is a vacation to repeat in the future. Judy

Hi Linda, we are back home from the states again :-(. The time passed so fast. It was so nice in your home. Everybody loved it and enjoyed it very much. Your vacation home and the way you are offering it is a great example, how it should be. All your descriptions, all your suggestions, gave us the feeling to be at home from the beginning. The beautiful view, the privacy, the swimming pool (where we had a lot of fun) and the fascinating decorations are things, we never forget. You did a great job, Linda!
