We decided a while before our trip that we didn't want to stay at a crowded resort packed with wild animals (kids) so we tried to find a nice secluded place to stay where we could just relax and enjoy the best island in the chain. We were extremely lucky to find this little gem. I promise you will want to spend at least one day of your trip in the outdoor shower... and make sure you eat the avocado's and fresh fruit that they have waiting for you. The owners, Doug and Kathy, were definitely our two favorite people on the island. If you have any questions about the island, or places to visit while you're there, ask them. They are a wealth of knowledge, not to mention two of the best people we've met. Kathy actually lent my wife her shoes for a hike we were taking to a secluded waterfall. Our only regret about this trip was that we didn't hang out with them more! Enjoy your trip to Kauai, and make sure you stay here.

Had a great time at Hale Pueo! This is a perfect set-up for two people. This could not have been a better location for us, close to everything, but far enough away from the busy beach side resorts to be nice and quite/private. Having a breakfast available to us on the first day was a BIG bonus, getting in a 9pm did not leave us time to shop, so the breakfast was much appreciated. The location is great, central to almost all the island, we toured the complete island and never found the driving too much. The notes from Kathy and Doug are very helpful, as to site seeing, restaurants and shopping areas.Having all the "little" items available in the kitchen and beach supplies is a HUGE help, towels, boogie boards, picnic cooler for the beach and all the small items in the kitchen were great. Before we got there we had our reservations about the outdoor shower, but once there see exactly why it is outdoors, returning from the beach full of sand or from hiking full of "red dirt", much better to shower before entering the cottage, a great idea. This is a great place for a couple looking for a nice quite location that is close to everything. Kathy and Doug are great hosts, Mahalo, Glenn & Joyce.

Hale Pueo is a dream destination for anyone wishing to vacation with privacy and get away from the hussle and bussle of resort areas. It is tucked away in the mountains of a local town and the owners are awesome. Kathy and Doug were courteous, attentive, but left you alone to do your thing. They are far enough away to give you complete privacy (VERY nice, especially when on your honeymoon), yet accessible when you need them. They had great suggestions for us and we couldn't have been happier with the accommodations. The location is great -- close to Lihue airport and beaches so you can get the taste of resorts if you want without actually staying there. = ) In fact, to navigate the whole island from there was great -- we took trips to both ends of the island without any issues. The full kitchen was great -- we were able to shop, cook, and grill on our own so we pretty much only ate out once a day -- and that was by choice. We definitely plan on coming back to Kauai someday -- two weeks wasn't enough! We will definitely look up Hale Pueo and stay there again!! Also for the seclusion and accommodations you get, Kathy and Doug offer very reasonable rates! We are so glad we chose to stay with them! Thank you so much for such a memorable honeymoon Kathy and Doug!! We sincerely hope to see you again someday -- sooner than later we hope! Thanks, Lori & Mike

We were fortunate to stay at Hale Pueo four weeks 1-12-11 through 2-9-11. We loved the location. It was beautiful and very peaceful. We usually stay on the ocean and we honestly didn't miss it at all. Just a ten minute car ride takes you to Poipu Beach or Salt Pond Beach Park. Kathy and Doug are the perfect hosts. Kathy greeted us after a long day getting to Kauai and even baked us bread for our breakfast the first day. I can't think of anything to complain about. If you are looking for a change of pace from resorts or condos this is your place! Thank you Kathy and Doug Vincent & Mary

Had a great time at Hale Pueo! This is a perfect set-up for two people, with a quick stop over at a grocery store we had everything we needed for a day out or evening in. Kathy and Doug have provided all the beach essentials (cooler, chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, etc.) and the kitchen is all set for making dinner or packing lunch and snacks for the day. Having a kitchen with things like spices, ice packs, cooking utensils, and a coffee maker was awesome! The location is less than a 10-minute drive to Koloa/Poipu and it’s nice to come back to a quiet and private place away from the crowds to relax. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay, the house was clean and well cared for and we settled in to our “home” in no time. Thanks Kathy and Doug!

My wife and I just spent a week at the cottage and it was perfect location to enjoy all the South and West side Kauai had to offer. Our first impression was great as we had only seen pictures and didn't know what to expect. Kathleen and Doug were there to greet us and show us around. They were very helpful when needed but the cottage is far enough from the house that we had plenty of privacy when needed it. The cottage is very cute and well constructed. The fresh Tropical flowers and chilled bottle of wine made us feel welcome and at home. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the pots, pans, spices and utensils needed for cooking. Watching the sunset over dinner from the deck was so romantic and peaceful. It was a little loud at night but as long as you keep in ear plugs and don't turn any lights on to fool the roosters into thinking it's daylight your fine. The lofted bed was romantic and caught a nice breeze at night for us to enjoy. Mahalo Kathleen and Doug for your inviting little home away from home.
