The house worked perfectly for my family. It was large enough and in a great area for my husband to entertain our infant and toddler in the morning while I attended a conference in Yosemite. The drive to the valley was quick, easy and beautiful. Harvey was great and went above and beyond to make our trip comfortable and great! We will definitely be back in the future! The Olsen Family

The property is well maintained. Clean and functioning. Great location to Park enterance / Valley. I would recommend the property to anyone who may be interested in visiting Yosemite, even myself who may make this annual road trip.

The place really does look like the pictures and the only things we really decided to stop and pick up were groceries and our favorite coffee. The owner's have everything else there already!!! The quality of furnishings and bedding was outstanding. The directions provided were outstanding. Questions we had were answered in a timely fashion by very knowledgeable and friendly owners. They are familiar with the area. I really enjoyed Yosemite River House...the pool...the warmth of the interior design...and the star gazing (in the early morning and night). There is an astounding view from everywhere you look and the entrance to Yosemite Valley was about a very direct drive. Words cannot express our thanks for the owner's to rent to us!

We are a family of 5 from Australia. I came across this property on the VRBO website and at first I was a little hesitant in booking not really knowing the area we were going to. But after speaking to Harvey on the phone prior to our trip I felt confident I had done the right thing and booked the house for 3 nights. His directions were fabulous and we had no problem finding the place. The property was perfect and had everything we needed. We loved the peaceful surroundings and seeing the deer in the mornings in the back yard. What a treat! We also loved coming back to the house after a long day of sightseeing/hiking and relaxing either by the pool or on the decking.After spending 4 weeks of traveling from city to city it was wonderful to get back to nature and the wonderful surroundings that Yosemite has to offer. What an awesome part of the world this is! Thank you Harvey for sharing your home with us. We highly recommend this property and will do so to all our friend and family.

Yosemite's River House

We stayed in Yosemite's River House for a long weekend. The house is beautiful, well equipped, and conveniently located near the park. My family enjoyed the large living room, the expansive kitchen/dining room area, and the great pool. The owners are very nice and helpful. We would come back again happily. There is so much to see at Yosemite. A long weekend was just a taste.

We loved staying at the Yosemite River House. It was very peaceful with a beautiful view. We enjoyed the warm evenings in the pool with a view of the mountains. I appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and relaxing deck overlooking the river. The trip to Yosemite park was shorter than I expected so it was nice to return there after a crowded day in the park. I would love to return with my family again. Thank you.

Beautiful Clean House

This River House was a beautiful home! We recently stayed here with my family of 6 Adults & 2 children. The house is extremely clean and a lot nicer than the pictures shown online. It's a short 20 minute drive to the Yosemite National Park gate. We arrived in Yosemite earlier than expected & the owner was kind enough to let us check in early. We had such a blast!!

Mother/Son Yosemite Trip

There is alot of good to say about this property...and most has been stated in recent reviews. Here's our story: Wanting to treat my adult son to his first trip to Yosemite, I chose this home #1, for the location, as I've stayed in this hwy 140 corridor prior (this residence is a SHORT gorgeous drive to the Valley floor), #2, Merced River accessibility (for fishing, awesome sounds, ambiance) #3 outdoor features-pool & decking overlooking the river, and finally #4, the interior looked pretty nice from the pictures on VRBO. Then there was a forest fire!!!! After much phone coorespondance with Harvey during the fire activity, he patiently and respectfully left us to decide-and we're so glad we went ahead with our plans. While there is indeed charring in the area, it had zero effect on our stay, as the home is oriented such that you'd not even know! There are layers to this property beyond the VRBO pictoral.....It's an older home, and sports cool period/era features such as some corner windows are double hung wood, built in cabinets, and am guessing original stone work in the fireplaces. The bathrooms are a treat...you'll have to experience for yourself. A fun thing for us was the wildlife in and around the home. Behind the house you'll find a hammock I'd highly reccommend visiting that will afford you respite to watch deer (comes daily and regretfully is eating Harvey/JoAnne's apples) chattery woodpeckers and hummingbirds galore...as well as quail families poking about. If you like to swim/enjoy a pool, stay in a unique home, appreciate a swing out flat screen tv, this is THE PLACE to stay to add another layer to your Yosemite holiday. It's very private, very clean, has loads of character. You'll see.

Nature and Comfort

The house is AMAZING. Better than we imagined. The photos do not due it justice. From the pool to the beautifully decorated and equipped house, you feel right at home immediately. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. House is equipped with everything you could want. Sitting out on the deck at night, listening to the river and viewing the star filled sky was so relaxing. Deer grazing in the yard outside the pool area. Who could ask for more? The owners went over and above their duty for us...we are so grateful! If you are looking for nature and comfort, this is the place to go. My family and I are already discussing our next visit.

Couldn't have been better!

Our family of four had plenty of room in this lovely, clean and spacious house. A larger family could easily be comfortable here. We were able to prepare all meals at here after stopping an hour away in Mariposa at a terrific grocery store on the drive from San Francisco. We also stopped at a large sporting goods store and bought inexpensive fishing poles for my husband and son and watched them fish each evening in the Merced RIver below the house while we sat on the large back deck. The valley floor was about 25 minutes without park traffic and we were very happy with our choice to stay outside of the park and have the pool and privacy we enjoy. The Zephyr white water rafting co. is only 10 minutes down the road and was totally worth the money. We saw a bear in park, rode horses, hiked vernal falls and will be back at The Yosemite River House again to do more!

My family stayed at this amazing property in June and fell in LOVE with this beautiful home and surrounding property!! The house is to die for, the pool is exceptionally clean and relaxing and the deer that came up to the deck wasn't bad either!!:) It is truly a slice of heaven on earth. My 3 small boys didn't want to leave the house they loved playing in the pool so much and Grandma enjoyed reading on the deck looking at the Merced River. The Merced lulled us to sleep every night and woke us up every morning. The owners are incredible as well, they couldn't do enough for us to make sure our vacation was a memorable one. We will DEFINITELY be back for years to come!! Thank you from the Williams Family:)

Perfect Location!

We chose this home after thorough research looking for a home that received high ratings from guests, would fit 6 people comfortably, and also be very close to Yosemite National Park. I am so thankful that this is the home we chose. First of all, the location is wonderful. You are only a few miles from an entrance into the park. The drive into the park is beautiful. The home sits right above the Merced River so we could enjoy listening to the river running as we went to sleep. It also was nice to sit on the deck to have a glass of wine and just watch the river tumble by. Our family packed lunches to eat in the park, coming home in late afternoons so we could enjoy the very well taken care of swimming pool. The swimming pool became a real benefit as it was so refreshing after being out hiking during the day! Harvey takes excellent care of the home and is so accommodating! He actually sought out a slow cooker for me to use during our stay so that I could have a meal cooking while we enjoyed the park. He also called and left us his cell phone number one day that he would be away from his home. We were a group of my mother, daughter, and married son and d-i-l. The home was laid out very well in that we could enjoy time together, but also were able to enjoy some time apart. We enjoyed using the very large table for playing board games in the evening. The home is very close to Zephyr Whitewater Rafting. We took a 1/2 day trip on the Merced River the day we were leaving. It was one of the many highlights on our trip. Highly recommended! We have been making a point of traveling to a different National Park each year. We enjoyed this home and the park so very much that we were tempted to go back this coming year. Amazing stay and would highly recommend!

Yosemite river house

We had a girls trip to Yosemite in May, 2011 and stayed here for a week. Every one of us absolutely loved this house. It is so pretty, tastefully decorated, clean, and the location is so convenient to Yosemite. There were 7 of us and we never ran out of towels, never felt crowded, the kitchen was well stocked for cooking, the gas grill was clean and had plenty of propane for grilling out dinner. The outside of the house is as pretty as the inside - the pool was sparkling, the landscaping was beautiful and the sound and view of the Merced River was just incredible. We came back early one day just to sit on the deck and enjoy the view. The owner also made our trip enjoyable by being so accessible and providing us with information about the area (excellent directions), the park, the weather. We all wished we had been able to meet him! This is just a beautiful, convenient home to stay in and I would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.

Comfortable, relaxing location outside Yosemite Park

We loved this beautiful hideaway located just outside of Yosemite National Park. The house is wonderfully updated with very comfortable bedding and a very large living room area. The swimming pool is unheated but quite nice for hot summer days. We are a family of four and we stayed here in July/August 2010. The owner is very helpful and the place was impeccably clean and tidy. It's 8 miles to the Arch Rock station entrance to the Park. It's 20 miles from Yosemite's River House to the parking lot in Yosemite Valley; took us about 30 - 40 minutes into the park. If you are unfamiliar with the El Portal area, you should be aware that there isn't much in the way of amenities nearby. There are two motels with restaurants and a small "country store" in El Portal. If you're looking to escape to the great outdoors, this is ideal - just a few nearby neighborhoods and the meandering Merced River just below the deck. We had a lovely trip and we plan to return soon.

Great choice for just outside the park

Stayed here in July (four adults). Very clean, spacious and owner was accomodating. Heat of day kept pool water warm under the stars at night. One wrinkle: We stayed 3 nights and were counting on doing laundry. It's in the garage but under lock and key. Harvey had to make a special trip over and make it available to us upon request, but it would have been better if we had made those arrangements in advance. Wish I had brought a fishing pole. Merced River is just below house and supposedly good for trout. Would have made a nice breakfast.

A Perfect Little Paradise

My husband and I, our two daughters and their spouses stayed two days at the river house. It was everything we expected and more. We all had a great time rafting on the Merced River with Zephyr Whitewater Expeditions which was just across the river from the house (check them out, it was the highlight of our trip). During the day, we hiked and saw the sights of Yosemite National Park which was literally just minutes away. There was never a dull moment while we were at the house, at dawn, before our activities began, we sat by the pool (which was gorgeous and very clean) and watched the hummingbirds, at dusk, the deer wandered into the yard and quietly waited while we took pictures (although we did keep our distance as to not scare them away). At night we laid on the hammack and watched the shooting stars. The house is well equipped with everything you could need. We cooked dinner and breakfast both days and had everything we needed in the kitchen. We even had everything we needed to bake a cake for my youngest daughter's birthday. We used the WiFi and the 42" HDTV which had a great picture. There were extra blankets, pillows, even shampoo and soap in the bathrooms. The owners are wonderful and went out of their way to provide us with an exceptional stay. They were extremely responsive to my emails, Left a notebook of instructions on how everything works in the house and other helpful bits of information for the local area. When I emailed and asked about how long it might take to drive back to San Francisco airport from the house to catch a flight, they quickly provided detailed information that helped me tremendously. The timing back to the airport was perfect! Can't say enough about the house and it's owners. They were simply the best! We will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends.

The Yosemite River House was wonderful and if we ever make it back to the Yosemite area we would want to stay here again. The whole family loved having our meals on the deck listening to the rushing water of the Merced River. Our children loved coming back from the park and swiming in the pool. It was great to spend the day in the park and have such short drive back to the house. The kitchen had everything we needed and was a pleasure to cook in. The family room was large enough for all of us to lay around after a busy day of hiking and swiming.

We have stayed in other rental homes in and around Yosemite, but the River House is definitely the "crown jewel". The location is incredible, whether it was falling asleep to the sounds of the Merced River, or watching the the nearby mountain tops get a snowy dusting, WE LOVED THIS PLACE! From the moment we walked in the house, we felt right at home. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner on the deck overlooking the Merced River. We enjoyed watching the deer that visited us every day. We had a wonderful time exploring Yosemite for the first time. This is a great house and a perfect location--just far enough from the crowds, but just minutes away from the Park entrance. The pool was very refreshing on the hot afternoons after our hikes. Poolside was a wonderful spot for stargazing and watching for the nightly pair of deer that visited. What a wonderful home base for our trip to Yosemite. The house and area are absolutely stunning. Breakfast on the deck was a favorite for all of us.
