Why the Owner Chose Carnelian Bay

Alenka's cabin is close to many fine restaurants in Tahoe City as well as walking distance to Garwood's on the Lake, CB's Pizza and our favorite breakfast place-Old Post Office cafe. Patton and Garwood's beaches are also walking distance away and both are dog-friendly. Crystal Bay resort for different kinds of entertainment is only 10 minutes away. The property is centrally located minutes away from Northstar, Homewood, Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley ski resorts for world class skiing.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Listen to morning birds with a cup of coffee in a hot tub-always my favorite thing to do! Barbeque on a large private deck while your kids and friends play soccer, badminton, bocci ball on a well manicured lawn. Sip on your glass of wine and relax after a busy fun day exploring Tahoe. The property is very close to town and many activities, but offers great privacy with National forest land as a back yard.

Owner's Map of Carnelian Bay

I came to Tahoe as a student from Slovenia in 1985 to take a brake for a semester and ski in Squaw valley. I fell in love with Tahoe and transfered my studies to UNR where I also continued to ski race. I made a permanent home in Tahoe in 1988. Twenty years later I still love to ski, bike, kite board, sail, hike and I enjoy raising my three children here. Growing up in the Alps in Slovenia, Tahoe lifestyle always reminded me of the way I grew up. We live in a very close knit community. I still translate my passion for skiing by coaching in Squaw Valley and my husband Jim and I love to Mountain bike, back country ski, kayak and sail on the Lake.

Big Disappointment

Guest: k4all (seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 08/22/11 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

Two families each drove 14 hrs for our summer vacation only to encounter a multitude of problems. 1) The cold water tap in the kitchen DIDN'T WORK (we immediately notified the owner, but no repairs were forthcoming). 2) One of the bathroom doors couldn't be closed (goodbye privacy). 3) A wobbly dining room chair collapsed beneath our slender 14y.o. son; it was lucky he wasn't hurt. 4) The outdoor chairs were equally wobbly and in desperate need of a screw driver, so we avoided them and used the beach chairs we brought with us. 5) We had to repeatedly run to the store for supplies that should have been stocked, ie: the BBQ fuel tank was empty when we arrived, there was no dish soap available, etc. Lake Tahoe is a gorgeous place, and this home is well-situated and has great potential if only it were well maintained. Our pre-trip interactions with the owner went smoothly; she seemed very nice and responsive. We later learned that she had a family emergency, and therefore understand that we were not a priority for her, but there should have been someone to whom she could delegate the trouble shooting of her property over a 6 day period. This is our first bad experience with a VRBO property. Lesson learned = if you're renting a property that has not yet been reviewed, beware!

Owner response:Very unfortunate review by this party. I actually responded to each request and sent repair man and plumber immediately to the property. I however was not able to go to the property prior to the arrival to inspect because I was in a hospital with my daughter who was in critical condition in ICU after head on car collision. I wasn't making excuses for this people but I did explain to them that we had an extraordinary circumstance. They for example expected supply of toilet paper for two families for entire week and were complaining about that. It is quite standard that there are two rolls per bathroom. I've never had complains from any other renters but sometimes things happen when there are back to back parties in the house. Tahoe is very busy in the summer.
