Why the Owner Chose Belves
In the year of 2006 we decided to a realise a long standing ambition, to fulfill our dream of buying our own little place in the south west of France, after many happy years of camping in the region with our children, now was the time to buy and prepare for the time when we could live there permanently untill then our plan would be to enjoy holidays with our family and friends. We began our search on the internet with so many different properties and locations to choose from we knew it would not be easy, there are many beautiful places in the Dordogne: Beynac, Domme, Monpazier to name but a few, but we decided to stay within range of the river Dordogne itself and look for a village house which would give us the freedom to wander and not be wholely dependant on a car. In the summer of 2007 we were holidaying in a local camping park close to Belves when my husband decided to go and visit Belves on his own. There he went into an estate agent and asked if by chance they had anything in the village without a garden or pool. An initial quick visit to the Tour du Guet and we were sold, a day later and we had bought the house. It was just what we had been looking for, the village has everything you could want, restaraunts, shops, in the summer the local swimming pool is open, a market is held every week which offers a good selection of local produce, all set within the the old centre, and all within walking distance from the house but just far enough away to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the stunning views from the balcony.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
After walking up the winding stairs to the entrance of the house, you arrive on the terrace, with a view that cannot fail to impress, from the terrace a bridge leads to the 14th centuary watch Tower and if you want you can climb the ladder to see over the valley. On the terrace you’ll find an old refectory table and chairs where you can sit with a glass of wine and enjoy looking out at, the hill top view of the old village. Stepping in to the house you will find wooden floors, stone walls, and if you look closely you will also discover changes to the interior that have been made over the centuaries, doors and windows closed off, there are no records but the evidence is there to see. The house has been tastefully restored , it is very much our second home and we have done our best to furnish it to the highest standards, providing all the necessary home comforts
