Relax beside the private pool and listen to birdsongs in the background. Sit in a rocking chair on the front porch and get to the know the friendly neighbors. Keep in touch with the rest of the world via the wireless internet and the large-flat screen TV.
Take a leisurely five-minute stroll to Mount Dora's Donnelly Street and visit the many delightful stores that cater to local tourists. Eat at one of the numerous restaurants. There's something for every taste, including Mexican, Thai, Cuban, Japanese, French, English, and American. Further afield, there's Indian and lots more to choose from. Walk to the Highland Cafe for an inexpensive hearty breakfast and lunch.
As you walk downtown, pass by beautiful Lake Dora and Gilbert Park. If you are in the mood, rent a boat and go fishing or get a tan. Join the 'lawn' bowling club on the shores of the lake. Participate in the many weekend events organized by Mount Dora's active town council. Visit Renninger's, one of the largest antique malls in America.
More adventurous? Head to Florida's east or west coasts, which are just about a hour's drive away. Head to Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World, NASA, or another attraction, just about 40 minutes away. Visit Winter Park (40 minutes away), listed by National Geographic as the 38th. best historic site in the US to visit. Enjoy lots of day trips to museums, historic towns, and attractions. Never get bored!

We wanted to holiday in a scenic area that was close to a small downtown area, while also within easy reach of a major airport and major tourist attractions.

I was born in Ireland and my wife in England, so we are in a mixed marriage! We relive daily the turbulent history that has plagued our countries for 700 years! That said, we have been together for nearly 40 years. We bought our Mount Dora home when we lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and desperately needed an escape to the sun. Friends who live in Orlando recommended Mount Dora as a location that would suit Europeans. They were right - it does. We love the area and enjoy walking the few blocks to Mount Dora's main street. We especially like the neighbors who have made us feel at home.
