One impressive display concerns “Operation Bumblebee” the US missile project that was conducted on the island after World War II by the US Navy and Johns-Hopkins University. The concrete towers you may see on the island were observation towers for the project. The nine sway-proof observation towers were each set on a 30 by 30 foot reinforced concrete platform, secured by pilings driven deep into the sand. Each 35-foot tower was to be topped with a 5-foot wall of concrete blocks, and was to contain four decks of instruments that would measure and record the rockets’ flights.

Why the Owner Chose Surf City
My wife and I grew up in the Topsail Island area, and just can't get the salt air out of our blood. We had to move away for work purposes, but wanted to have a place to come back to and enjoy with our kids. The views afforded from this property of the marsh and Inland waterway are
just beautiful. Ocean access is a short walk across the street where you can enjoy long days of
playing in the surf and sand or enjoy long evening walks as the sun goes down.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We love to visit the Turtle Hospital and kayak in the creek behind our duplex. There is great crabbing off the dock and beautiful sunsets. At the North end of the Island we go spend the day clamming and finding scallops. Bands perform in the downtown park and we also have movie night in the summer. There is an awesome book store and coffee cafe at the South end of the Island, as well as a favorite putt putt hangout.
This is our property. Our community is new and is directly across the street from the Surf Condo's.

Great house, great time! We loved our morning coffee on the marsh dock and our afternoons on the beach. The dock was great for launching our kayaks and crabbing. (too shallow for good fishing) There is a great public boat ramp and park that we used for our boat. The house itself is well stocked and the beds are very comfortable. It was a great place for our family of six.

My family have enjoyed a really wonderful vacation in your condo. Your condo is a perfect place to have fun at the beach as well as the sound. It is located at carm sound side, but not far from the beach. The crabbing at private dock was my kids' favorite thing. It was an "IDEAL" place for crabbing. My kids could get more than 20 fairly big crabs using only three chicken legs!

We came for a vacation with extended family in June 2011. The house was fantastic, with plenty of pretty and comfortable space for the 8 of us. We loved the location. It was perfect for the many activities we enjoy such as kayaking, sitting on the dock/porches to enjoy the views, crabbing, and playing at the beach. We are already making plans to return. Thank you for sharing your home with our family.

My friends and I stayed for a fishing tournament. There was plenty of parking for our two boats and trucks. The unit was extremely clean and well furnished. We stayed in the area for a weekend several years in a row and this house has been the best value and nicest place we stayed. I hope to have the chance to go stay with my wife and kids to enjoy the views and the beach.

We stayed in Marsh Potatoes in late july 2010. We had a very warm and nice weather. As we are a family of six, we were looking for a very spacious, comfortable, well equipped and quiet place to stay in Surf City. We found it at Marsh Potatoes, where you can either go to the beach or relax on the dock looking for crabs. Making business with the Cutler family is easy, fast and they are reliable. Many thanks to the Cutler family, to make their house available to our family

We loved our stay the end of August, the weather was perfect. We enjoyed this location much better than beach front. Every morning and every evening we sat on the dock, it was so relaxing. Your home was very well equipped and very comfortable. We will be back as soon as we can!
