Our house was originally built in 1907, is shaded by several tall old trees, has a blue stone driveway bordered by lilacs, and a beautiful perennial garden with hydrangea and sea grasses surrounding the wraparound porch which is furnished with white wicker rocking chairs and settees, as well as an outdoor dining table and chairs and outdoor fireplace.
In the back there is a deck with a gas grill, outdoor dining table and chairs, and a 16'x 32' swimming pool (heatable) with wide steps for underwater sitting/sunning.
The house is fully but simply and tastefully furnished in country style. Downstairs, the living room has a lovely hearth/fireplace flanked by French doors which lead out to the porch (and the outside fireplace), a down-filled queen-size sleeper sofa, a couple of easy chairs, an over-sized coffee table, and an antique armoire which holds a 32-inch TV, VCR, DVD Player, stereo/cassette/CD player, puzzles, boardgames, and crayons. There is a half bath off the living room with a toilet & pedestal sink.
The eat-in country kitchen has bead&board cabinetry, checkerboard floors, granite counters, and all new appliances, and is completely stocked including all tableware, table linens, pots and pans and cooking utensils.
The kitchen can also be completely stocked with the groceries of your choice if you so desire (at an additional charge).
Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one with a full-size bed and one with a king-size bed (which splits to two twins if needed), with 100% cotton sheets, down pillows & duvets, and shaker pegs all around so you can throw your clothes at the wall and not have to hang everything in the closets. There is also a wainscot bath with tub/shower, toilet, and pedestal sink, and plenty of bath and beach towels.
Full laundry facilities are available in the basement.
The Guest Cottage (studio) is also included in the weekly rate. It has its own private deck and yard, and is adorably furnished with a double bed, walnut dining table & chairs, and a wicker rocking chair. It also has its own full kitchen and full bath. It's perfect for family, friends, or child-care that you would like to have immediately nearby while maintaining your privacy.
It is a very short walk into town - a tree-lined small-town main street with one stop light, a couple of good restaurants, a superb gourmet deli, a wine/liquor store, a couple of antique stores and a lovely village green with a great playground for kids - or to the Bay where the locals fish off the dock or to a small neighborhood sandy beach. Eight minutes by car on country roads takes you to East Quogue's lovely ocean beach on Dune Road with good facilities and lifeguards.
It is a wonderful, quiet spot to escape, relax, read, and watch the grass grow or the sunset, and is also a good jumping-off point for all the fun, culture, and excitement that happens in the more bustling parts of the Hamptons throughout the year. |
