This is your opportunity to experience all the ambience of a fairy tale log cabin deep in the woods on the eastern brow of scenic Lookout Mountain. The view of Shinbone Valley below provides a pastoral glimpse of nature at its most magnificent. The cabin features wood carvings and ironwork by local artisans in every detail and at every turn. The front steps greet our guests with acorn finials on the rail. Through the hand built barn-style front door one can glimpse the ironwork turkey chandelier hanging gracefully from the cathedral ceiling of the living area. Up the cabin stairs with its hand carved acorn newel post is the loft, which boasts a hand built and carved pine queen sized bed with four stately acorn finials. And Daisy the wooden bear cub clutches the cabin's massive center post high above her human guests.
On chilly days the cast iron stove and old fashioned quilts give all the comfort you could want. Plenty of starter pine and stove wood provided for your first night's fire!
In spring, the scent of blossoms fills the air. On rainy days, the patter on the metal roof lulls you to a gentle doze. Porch glider is the best bed in the cabin.
In summer, huckleberries and blackberries line the path to the lower deck, and new mown hay spills an irresistible scent into the country air on the cattle ranch leading to the cabin.
And in fall, you will feel each morning like you have awakened in the middle of a golden bowl of sunlight.
Get in touch with yourself and your family. This cabin has all the comforts and conveniences of a modern kitchen and bath, laundry facilities and heat and air, but none of the distractions of intrusive modern life.
Craftsmanship and imagination fill the cabin. Books and games line the shelves. We suggest that you leave your city cares at home and inhale all the restorative peace that nature has to offer. Relax, unwind and unplug!

Why the Owner Chose Cloudland
I have enjoyed visiting the mountains of my home state, Georgia, since I was a little girl. I was an active Girl Scout, as was my sister and my daughter. All of us were campers at Camp Juliette Low for girls in Cloudland, Ga. When the chance presented itself to buy a cabin in the area, I jumped at it. The log shell was built as a labor of love by one man over the course of ten years. However, when he was unable to complete it, my close family friends, who are local artists, bought it and completed it in 2007, adding their own unique artistic touches.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
The view of Shinbone Valley is breathtaking. The original owner created a lower deck 200 feet down the mountain, where the sunrises are unparalleled (they even say that he slept there while he was building the log shell). Seasons each show off their natural best. There is usually at least one light snow in winter, and the cast iron stove is wonderful at keeping the entire cabin snug. In spring, the earliest Amalancher tree blooms in the dooryard. In summer, there is no better snooze than on the old glider on the sleeping porch. This little cabin accomodates any size group, from the couple on their (second) honeymoon, to a family of seven seeking to renew their bond. It's terrific for kids. The area boasts a cattle ranch that is as well maintained as any in Georgia. It is home to several summer camps, the closest being Camp Juliette Low, a Girl Scout camp for girls, and Valley View Ranch, one of the premier equestrian camps for girls in the country. Walking or hiking is always a treat. And fishing and horseback riding are favorite activities of the local folks.
Overlooking Shinbone Valley on the ridge of the East Brow of Lookout Mountain, Ga. Cloudland is off of #157. The drive takes you through Valley View Ranch and Allgood Farms. Two hours northwest of Atl

We stayed there this fall and couldn't have been more thrilled! The lodge and all amenities are exactly as stated and Sara was a delight in every possible way. She promptly responds, gives you everything you need to know (READ the Welcome Letter!), and has genuinely thought of everything so that it feels like home away from home. Lovely, lovely, lovely.....we WILL be back for sure!

My husband and I (of 12 yrs & 2 girls) were able to find peace and quiet at Acorn Ledge Lodge. Thank you Sara for sharing your cabin with us. The extensive Welcome Letter, detailed directions, and quick communications were rivaled by none. You have thought of everything! The back deck on the glider under a quilt was my absolute favorite spot to relax, although it was a little tough to pull ourselves from that heavenly bed. It was very very comfy and I missed it when we returned home. We enjoyed breakfast at the Moonlight Bistro and would recommend to everyone. If you are looking for the "unplugged" from busy life experience, then look no further -- This is it! Serenity Found.
Owner response:I'm so happy you enjoyed your well-deserved getaway! Best wishes for this Holiday Season.

What an amazing place!! We'll be back, no doubt. Plenty of room for 4 adult and 2 boys, 7 and 5 yrs old. They had so much fun playing outside around the cabin and taking long walks. We really enjoyed the State Parks and Chris was able to get a 27 mile training run in at the Pinhoti trails. We chose to eat in every night as it felt just like home, no need to leave. Sara sent of VERY detailed notes about the cabin with helpful tips about the area. Thank you very much for the snacks, juices and bagels. We've rented many cabins and this was by far the best. Thanks Sara!!
Owner response:Great! I'm so thrilled. I'll have to look up the Pinhoti Trails so that I can recommend them to other guests. I'm afraid I've never heard of them. Looking forward to having you back real soon! Sara

What a wonderful place to getaway and unwind! We spent 3 nights at this little cabin in the woods as a relaxing vacation for our small family. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, especially the screened-in back porch where we spent a lot of time looking out over the valley and enjoying the out-of-doors out of reach from the bugs. Time seemed to pass effortlessly as we took walks, read books and enjoyed each other's company. The neighboring residences, though visible through the woods, were not in any way a distraction and it appeared that only one residence was even occupied during our stay. The amenities of the cabin were excellent and it felt just like a home. Condiments in the fridge, bagels in the freezer, shampoo in the shower, you name it- it felt just like home. And even though we brought along our stuff, it was more relaxing because it just felt like home. (Thanks Sara!) For anyone interested, I did get excellent phone service on Verizon and was even able to browse the web on my laptop using my iPhone as a hotspot, although my phone would occasionally switch from 3G to a slower network. (Ok, I know- I shouldn't have been on the web but I did -need- to get some things done.) Driving out the driveway, we were already discussing our return trip and wondering how soon we could do it again!
Owner response:I'm so glad you enjoyed yourselves. And thanks so much for the comprehensive IT review!! Folks with laptops and iPhones will appreciate it.

This was a wonderful cabin to stay in. We had 3 adults and 3 10-12 yr old children staying and were very comfortable. The cabin is decorated better than any I have ever seen. We concentrated on the massive yard sales in the morning and Little River Canyon in the afternon. The kids had great fun playing in the river. Sara could not have been more helpful with all of her information. Wildflower cafe in Mentone is excellent place to go for a meal and to enjoy the area.
Owner response:I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it. Hope you'll come again in the near future!

Acorn Ledge Lodge was all we hoped it would be. The view from the screen porch was beautiful. We saw someone cutting his hay field far below in Shinbone Valley. The tractor looked like a toy! The rain on the tin roof was soothing to say the least. The cabin was clean and decorated beautifully. The quilts and metal work lights are great and made me wish for some of my own. The welcome letter we received answered questions we had not even thought of asking and made our trip and visit much easier. We enjoyed the nearby attractions. Wildflower Cafe and Moonlight Bistro in Mentone were perfect lunch time treats. Acorn Ledge Lodge was a good central location for all the attractions we visited and we looked forward to returning to it after our ramblings. Breakfast and coffee on the screen porch was a perfect start to each day. Hope to return soon, again and again.
Owner response:Thanks so much for the gracious review. I haven't even been to the Moonlight Bistro. Will have to check it out next week when I go up to the cabin. Best wishes for a lovely summer. Hoping to hear from you in the near future!

Acorn Ledge Lodge is an oasis of calm in an often frantic world. It is very well maintained and stocked with everything one could need. There are all the conveniences, but it is also rustic and surrounded by beautiful woods and scenery. The owner was extremely helpful with directions and ideas on things to do. I had difficulty tearing myself away from the screened porch but did visit Cloudland Canyon State Park, DeSoto State Park, Little River Canyon rim scenic drive, and the Wildflower Cafe in Mentone. I highly recommend all of those. I was surprised by the alpine meadow like terrain on top of the mountain with the wonderful smell of newly mown hay. My thanks to the owner for sharing the cabin with us.
Owner response:What a great review! Thanks! I am delighted that you seem to have found the much needed rest from the every day. And I"m hoping you'll return in the near future.

A recent guest was inspired during his visit to write the following words of poetry: The human soul longs for peace...a quietness not found in everyday life in the oft so fast movements beneath our feet....the time the soul needs to find this peace,is as near or as far as WE shall allow it to be!! my soul was SCREAMING for the peace of which i speak, the song of the trees sung peace to me so incredibly deep!!! this beautiful song, sung so quietly, still calms my soul everyday and nightly....the unfortunate reality of the human being,is to me w/out this soulful peace........so many of us are merely EXISTING!!!.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Acorn Ledge Lodge and would highly recommend it to anyone!! The decor is gorgeous, the amenities unmatched{Sara provides a highchair, pack-n-play, soaps, medicine, etc.}, and such a beautiful, peaceful place. We have four children and found this cabin to be plenty of space for all of us. Sara was great to work with and very prompt in replying to any questions I had. We cannot wait to return to Acorn Ledge Lodge!! Thank you, Sara, for sharing your little slice of Heaven with us!!
Owner response: Acorn Ledge Lodge is a wonderful secluded spot for couples or girls' getaway, but your family (four kids!) has provided proof that it's also a great little haven for folks with kids. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it! I was sure you would!
