Why the Owner Chose Panicale

We went there on vacation in 2003 and thought we had landed in heaven! TheTrasimeno area is part of Umbria but culturally and geographically it straddles both Umbria and Tuscany. It is in the exact centre of Italy and is half-way between Rome and Florence. It is an area which is easily accessible but at the same time secluded. A veritable treasure chest, containing a large part of Italy's Renaissance art, as well as much of the art of ancient and medieval times.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa

Borgo degli Olivi is in the centre of Italy near Lake Trasimeno on the Umbrian/Tuscan border and is at the heart of historical and cultural Italy. The local tourist board claim that 20% of the world's cultural heritage lies within a two hour drive of Lake Trasimeno. Rome, Florence and Siena are within easy reach with Perugia, Assisi and Cortona on your doorstep. There are also many historic walled hill villages in the area waiting to be discovered. The jewel among them, Panicale, is within 5 km of the house. There are many fine restaurants and cafés close by and you will find yourself pleasantly surprised at both the quality and the price! There are weekly markets in most of the local towns where one can purchase fresh farm produce (vegetables & fruit) as well as excellent locally produced wine and olive oil. The locals can be great fun!

Owner's Map of Panicale

We are a couple from Dublin with four grown-up children looking forward to retirement in the green heart of Italy. We designed the house in two apartments to give us and our children and their friends and families privacy when they came to stay with us. Each apartment has its own kitchen and living room area and separate patios / entrances. The property can be used either as two apartments or it also works very well as a single house. The photo is of all the family enjoying a meal in the house!

2 weeks in paradise- with wine

Date of Stay: 06/25/11 Review Submitted: 07/16/11

We 5 friends are just back from 2 weeks at Lola and Don’s house in Casalini. There are no words to describe the great time we had. Everything was perfect-- the house, pool, the sisters Free and Messi , Giampiero, Rosella, the weather, the food, the wine, the tomatoes, etc etc etc. We loved the villa and wished we could hide out in the fields and stay for a few more weeks. An Umbrian delight. Lola is a most accommodating proprietor…everything about the booking was easy to arrange and her suggestions for sights and meals was spot on. This villa is a great base for exploring both Umbria and Tuscany, either by car or train. Or for those less inclined to adventure, you can just sit by the pool or on the glider with a glass of wine and good book and contemplate the roses, lavender and rosemary. Looking forward to returning to this little piece of paradise.

Wonderful Place to Stay (Summer of 2011) 8 People

Guest: Jill (Atlanta, GA USA)

We could not have chosen a better place to have 8 adults in the Tuscony/Umbria area! We fell in love with the property, the pool, the view, the village, and the people that were at the local store/bar! I would recommend this location and this particular villa to anyone who wants to get the "true" experience that Italy has to offer. The owners were SO helpful in providing instructions, helpful tips for the area, and in the overall willingness to work with us! The pictures are very accurate as well as the description...you will not be disappointed in choosing this villa.

Wonderful stay in this beautiful villa in summer 2010

Date of Stay: 06/29/10 Review Submitted: 01/06/11

My husband and I stayed at Don and Lola's villa last summer (2010) for ten days with our 18 month old toddler and we can't recommend the place highly enough. The villa is an oasis of calm and beauty located in the idyllic Umbrian countryside. It was such a pleasure to sit outside and admire the gorgeous view, we really felt like we were living la dolce vita! Our son loved playing in the outdoor pool and large garden and it was a tranquil, safe environment for him. We found that the listing description on the website more than lived up to our expectations. Inside, we had everything we needed, the property is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. An added bonus for us were the shutters and window nets which ensured we all got a great night's sleep! Lola was very helpful when we were making our booking and gave us all the information we needed. There was lots to do and see in terms of sightseeing and trips, the villa is near some beautiful medieval villages such as Panicale, Panicarola and Castglione del Lago. We also visited the nearby towns of Cortona, Assisi and the Umbrian capital of Perugia. We'll have to go back and visit places such as Florence, Siena and Montepulciano which are all day trips you can easily do from the villa. Finally, in terms of our favourite attractions - well apart from the scenery, super-friendly locals, fantastic weather and cultural sights - the food was just amazing! There are plenty of restaurants nearby - many of which Lola kindly lists in her personalised guide book that she has compiled for the villa guests. If you want to eat in, there are also local markets and shops offering fresh and delicious produce and of course the wine is great too! Overall, it was a five star experience and we would definitely recommend this villa to anybody looking for a special place to stay in Italy.

We stayed here for two weeks in mid-November, and it was really a wonderful experience! We met the owners who were finishing up the olive harvest, and a lovlier couple you could not expect. Everything met and exceeded our expectations. The village is charming and the residents are very welcoming. I hope to go back during a different season and experience the area sooner rather than later!

Our family(including 4 teenagers)had a amazing week at the Villa. We travel every year with the children to different spots in Europe to spend time together as well as see and enjoy new sights and people. The town and Villa were the right location to take daily trips to different areas and sightseeing. The Villa was perfect for our family. The rooms large and comfortable as well as the swimming pool with the fantastic view.We had many great and fun nights cooking together and eating on the veranda. The best of all is we had the pleasure of sharing the Villa with the owners Lola and Don.They were the perfect hosts helping us get aquainted with the area.Their love for the area diffently rubbed off to our family .We have added this Villa as a must on on list and will reccomend to all our friends and hope to come back soon.I have one word to describe the Villa and its location for anyone reading this comment "PARADISE"

Staying at Borgo degli Olivi was the most relaxing place to spend a holiday and the scenery from the patio was fabulous. Many an hour were spent on the patio, for meals or to chat and drink the local wine.Travel daily, from this area was so easy and yet still we were able to return home to enjoy the ambiance of the Villa. We were fortune to be able to meet Don, the owner, before he returned to Ireland...a very pleasant and entertaining gentlemen.

October 2008: On arrival at Villa Borgo del Olivi, the gates were open and welcoming to us; our home away from home for three weeks. The villa is warm and inviting with all the amenities. The grounds, the view, and the gardens are spectacular. A true paradise. Each day we looked forward to returning to the comforts of the villa after our adventurous travels in Italy. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the patio with the aromatic pleasures of lavender, rosemary, and oleander. A great place to relax and unwind. We enjoyed using the stone oven to BBQ our steaks, lamb legs and chicken.Mmmmmm...good!!
