The Old Jodo Temple at Laupahoehoe Point, Hawaii was established in 1899 and for many people is a historical landmark on the Hamakua Coast.
The 2-story building represents Buddhist architecture, Buddhists details and ornaments, impressive yet simplistic, melding with traditional Hawaiian Plantation single frame, creating a unique design.
The Temple is a large open space, 40’x40’, with a spacious high ceiling, original wood floors and tall windows which cover three walls looking out onto the gardens and the front porch. The Alter is typical of Buddhist design; cross beams, large circular wooden pillars and carvings.
Behind the Alter there is a small bathroom and a sitting or sleeping room with a view of the ocean.
All sorts of gatherings and workshops are possible within the Temple; spiritual, healing, educational, cultural, the possibilities are endless.

The living quarters are on the first floor with a separate entrance. Very roomy and comfortable, a large kitchen, bath with large claw foot tub, 2 bedrooms, three double beds, one twin, with ocean views, 2 sitting rooms, a dining room, and three porches.
One of the few places with shoreline access on the Hamakua coast and only a two-minute walk to Laupahoehoe Point Park, where volleyball, hiking and boat ramp access are possible and swimming, surfing, snorkeling weather permitting.
