Why the Owner Chose Blue Hill

The Danforth Cottage was part of my husband's family estate and originally built by the man who designed the Danforth anchor. It is surrounded by woods and built only 30 feet from the shore. The views from the deck and the living room picture window are delightful. There are two pocket beaches easily accessed from the shore by stairs where rented paddle boats can be launched. It is within walking distance to the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club, which has a fabulous junior program open to the public, where all of our children learned how to sail.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

On cold foggy days there is nothing better than sitting by the fire and reading or working on a jigsaw puzzle. On sunny days, sitting outside on the deck or on the bench at the shore contemplating a swim can't be beat. The town of Blue Hill has a wonderful farmers' market, a food co-op and two grocery stores, There are fine galleries. restaurants. a great library and a very good hospital should the need ever arise. MERI offers educational programs on the marine environment throughout the summer and Kneisel Hall has a fabulous music program. It is less than an hours drive to the famous Acadia National Park. Between eating lobster and gazing at the view, the summers in Maine fly by....

Owner's Map of Blue Hill

After summering in Maine since infancy, in 1978 my husband decided to become a full time resident. Living here year round has been a decision neither of us have ever regretted. We are both artists and the natural beauty which surrounds us even in the spring and winter months is intoxicating. The thought of going anywhere else just doesn't occur.
