Happy New Year, Betty and Bart, We have just returned on the 18th from your beautiful condo in Kauai. It was an experience that we will remember for a long time. The stunning beauty of the ocean views, the wonderful warmth, beautiful scenery and wildlife, and the friendliness of all the people we met. The delicious seafood we enjoyed, many local treats, vivid snorkeling-so amazing. It was an adventure & your accommodation made it a home away from home. Thank you once again, Stephanie and Walter

We just got back from our fantastic Hawaiian vacation and just wanted to say our stay at Betty and Bart's condo was above and beyond our expectations. We cannot imagine a more perfect place to stay on the island and look forward to hopefully staying there again in the upcoming years. We have never felt so at home on vacation before and truly enjoyed watching the turtles while we ate breakfast or relaxed on the lanai at the end of an adventurous day.

Fantastic Oceanfront View

We spent a week here at the end of May, 2011. We saw turtles every time we looked out the big windows facing the ocean. There is so much to do in the area, snorkeling and SCUBA diving on either side of the condo complex.. This condo is a wonderful retreat from the mainland.

My work involves travel, and I spend 100+ nights/year in top hotels. We've done some of Hawaii's best hotels... and usually find ourselves fighting through the tourists at the luau to get to the beach, or walking a mile to get to our car. Once in the room, the chances of seeing - and, hearing - the waves are a longshot, at best. The Smiths have made their condo at Kuhio Shores into a Ritz-Carlton environment that was immediately relaxing and ultimately satisfying. The decorating is classic Tommy Bahama; the construction elements are all custom-home quality; the placement on the second floor makes the edge of the Pacific Ocean part of the balcony and lanai. We hoped that the condo would match the description on VRBO; it took five minutes to see that they've undersold the experience. The inside space is so comfortable that you have to remind yourself that it's Hawaii outside, and to go out and enjoy it! Everything we needed for a day at the beach - or an afternoon under a palm tree - was in the closet or cupboard; they've thought of it all. We could get to the "best of Poipu Beach" - shopping, beaches, restaurants - within 10 minutes... but once back to the condo, the "away from it all" sensation takes over. The sound of the waves and the feel of the breeze inside the unit were delightfully unrelenting; we never closed the windows if we were there. If we had "run of the building" unit placement choice, this would be our #1 selection. If we hired a decorator to create our dream environment - colors, textures, fixtures - she would come back with the Smith's unit as the perfect solution. We've been visiting Hawaii for over 35 years, and have been to Kauai on at least 10 of our 20 visits, and have never enjoyed anyplace more than Unit #212 at Kuhio Shores. We WILL be back; there aren't any rental options on the island better than this one! Come enjoy the Smith's aloha hospitality; you won't be disappointed!

Perfect Honeymoon Getaway - October 2010

Betty & Bart's condo was the absolutely perfect spot for my husband and me to spend our honeymoon. Close proximity to the water was a priority for us as we started looking for a place to stay, and this Kuhio Shores property completely delivered. The temperatures were perfect... the screens were open and the gentle sound of the ocean filled the place for the 10 days of our stay. The view was very private so that we weren't looking at any of our neighbors, and all we could see was ocean, sea turtles and the glorious sunrises from the lanai. It was quiet and private, two very high priorities for us after all of the excitement and socializing surrounding the wedding. It was the perfect size for us. As we looked at other properties initially, we saw some that looked nice but really were too big and would have cost more. I've also had the experience of renting a property by looking at pictures, trusting that they represent the space accurately, and then being disappointed. However, in this case the pictures are beautiful, and the place itself actually surpassed my expectations and delighted us completely. The rooms are all beautiful, the fixtures lovely and new, and clearly the place is clean and well-maintained. It just had a great feeling about it, which set the tone for our amazing trip. I know just from spending time there that Betty and Bart care about their Kauai home, and it was a great gift to spend our sacred honeymoon time there. We hope to come back again... the sooner the better!

Aloha Betty, We arrived home just a few hours ago, but I must write you before any more time elapses! After our usual lengthy flights we arrived at your Kauai home. Once there we just couldn't spare our time to write! The moment we entered your condo we experienced what I'd like to call a wonderful 'aloha special-ness' -- a feeling we have rarely found on any of our other Hawaiian visits! The sounds of the ocean waves, the breezes wafting from the lanai, the warmth of a home away from home, that is exquisitely appointed, and a stellar location on Kauai, our favorite Island! And thank you for your kindness -- the Kendall Jackson Merlot was enjoyed with a steak cooked on the grill. I'm afraid you (212) have spoiled us -- perhaps forever! Thank you for your tremendous contribution to our spectacular Hawaiian holiday!

Hi Betty, Thank you, thank you for letting us stay at your wonderful condo. We had the most amazing vacation. Kauai is beautiful and your condo was so perfect - we loved sitting outside and watching the waves roll in. What great snorkeling with all those turtles, I never imagined seeing so many each day! Thank you for the champagne to celebrate as well. Our trip was wonderful, we hope to return to your condo again in a couple years (I wish it could be sooner)- it was perfect for us!
