This beautiful 1905 Victorian home was totally upgraded and remodeled in 2005. It is on the walking tour of Historic homes in Live Oak. We will be awarded a 'Blue Plaque' this May for the home's unique preservation. The home is furnished with period antiques and is stunning and unique. Wainscoting, redwood beams and redwood walls adorn the home. The home is 2700 square feet. It boasts 30 stained glass windows, as well as hardwood floors, area rugs and carpet. A perfect location, it is approximately 2 blocks to Twin Lakes Beach and two blocks to the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. Six restaurants are within walking distance: Crow's Nest. El Palomar, Johnny's Harborside, Harbor Cafe,L & L Hawaiian BBQ and Aldo's . It also has a grocery and deli 3 houses down across the street. You don't even need to use your car.
The upper level has two bedrooms, each with queen bed and their own bathroom. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a TV. In addition, there is a half bath off the dining area. The gourmet kitchen has high redwood ceilings with a five burner gas range, double ovens, dishwasher, microwave, disposal and an informal bar that seats three. There is a gorgeous formal dining room with a cherry antique table with seating for eight. The family room has a 50 inch Plasma TV, DVD player, sectional sofa bed and 2 wingback chairs. It has two entrances. One is the front door with a huge covered porch facing 7th Ave. and the back door leads down to the Jacuzzi and deck.
The 3rd story loft has been converted to a Harry Pottery bedroom. It is carpeted, has a large skylite, another window, loveseat, chair, TV, dvd player, 2 twin beds and a fold out chair/bed. Suitable for adults too!!
Winding down the spiral staircase leads you to the lower level of the home. It has three bedrooms: Two have queen beds and the other has two twins. The bedroom with twin beds has its own tv. The large master bedroom also has a couch, chair and 31 inch TV, Sony play station and DVD player which can be used as additional living space for tv viewing and relaxing. The roll away bed is tucked in a large windowed closet, in a queen bedroom, but can be moved for your use. There is a quaint kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc. For those with teens this is can be their own place. The home is also perfect for two families since it offers total privacy if so desired. The lower level also has two entrances. One entrance leads to the outside to the BBQ, Jacuzzi and deck., one to Carmel Street Seating for 12-16 outside and table for outdoor living.
Washer and Dryer are in a covered area in back yard. No need to leave your vacation resort! Lots of parking! Two-three cars can park in the driveway (no permits needed), and parking for an additional 3 cars on the side and two cars in the front. Four parking permits come with the home for peak season. Perfect for reunions and multi-families.

A destination wedding has interesting challenges....renting the "Painted Lady" made many of these potential problems much, much easier to meet. Two families and the bride to be, (including 4 children, all under 8...) all thoroughly enjoyed the stay. 5 bedrooms, 5 baths....perfect. Beach close by...perfect, Store/deli across the street...perfect (for dad.....), location...ideal, hot tub for mom and dad in the evening...perfect. Like any vacation, there were some minor glitches but owners were quick to respond with whatever needed to happen. If you're looking for "modern" or brand new...this isn't for you but if your'e looking for convenience, great support from owners, a great family house, a unique, distinct, interesting, clean, and fun house.....this is the one. Will rent it again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We rented this home for my bridesmaids and their significant others for our summer wedding, instead of having everyone at different hotels. What a great idea! They all loved the home, it has plenty of different bedrooms so couples could get a little privacy instead of sleeping on a couch in the living room. The house was a great, fun place to have everyone together for the short weekend. The house is clean, well maintained, has plenty of rooms and bathrooms, has plenty of character and is in a great location. The owner was very easy and pleasant to deal with and everything was as advertised. I would definitely recommend this house to others. Our only regret was that we were so busy over the wedding weekend that we didn't get much time to just relax and enjoy the house. We wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of everything this house and neighborhood offers.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The good was really terrific - fantastic even. This is a really cool, funky house. Lots of great hide and seek places for the kids. Even a Harry Potter closet (walk in closet with window and twin bed) downstairs that the kids fought over. The kitchen and baths were well-stocked. I hate those houses where they give you one roll of paper towels and toilet paper and you have to scrimp - this is NOT that house. Dishwashing soap, cleaning supplies, plenty of towels, etc. It really is a short walk to the beach - I time three minutes walking by myself; it probably took twice that week with the kids. The beach was lovely - perfect sized waves for boogie boarding, nice sand and not too crowded. The jacuzzi was perfect for after beach or on cloudy days. We took lots of bike rides around the area. It's really close to a nice bike path going over to Capitola. The harbor nearby (3 blocks) has pelicans that were a major hit with the kids. The owners were very nice and gave lots of recommendations for places to eat and visit in the area. The bad was this home is on a pretty busy street corner, which could be noisy at night (this wasn't really a big deal to me, but good to know if you are a light sleeper). The ugly was there were mice in the house when we were there. The owners were very responsive and came over immediately to set traps, but given the extent of the problem and how much we paid to stay, it seems like they should have had a professional exterminator and should have given a partial refund for the inconvenience- which was considerable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We received a call from the lessee on Saturday regarding a rodent in the home. After awakening in the am, rodent droppings were found by some food left out. This was our first encounter with any rodents. We immediately called a professional exterminator. There were only 3 since we are in a small town. We reached 2, who were out of town and wouldnt be available until Monday. We never heard from the third one. Since they were unavailable for 2 days, they advised us of what they would do. We took their advice and expertise and immediately went to the home to set traps. We also looked for any openings which they might have squeezed thru. we found one and blocked it. We take great pride in this home as it was our personal residence for many years. We kept in communications with the lessee and she advised us when she would be out of the home, so we would come over during that time and check traps (so as not to disturb them). The lessee never asked for or discussed any reduction in rent. We were surprised that she thought a professional could do any better since we caught the culprits. Things do occur in nature that are out of our control, but we will take appropriate measures to solve any problems that may arise. We appreciate the positive review.

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house - perfect location, comfortable beds and plenty of space! The beach and marina are very close by and there were plenty of parking spaces. The house itself has wonderful character - with the stained glass windows and fun floor plan. The owners were easy to contact and very friendly - gave lots of great advice for places to visit. We are hoping that we will be back soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: I have lived in Santa Cruz for over 20 years and have loved every minute of it. Coming from the Central Valley, I enjoy the escape from the heat, extreme cold and air quality. The weather is conducive to anything. I am a horseman and love to ride on the beach and in the Santa Cruz mountains.
Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz:
I have always loved the Santa Cruz area since it combines the ocean and the mountain redwoods. The beaches are fantastic and the weather, supreme. There is so much to do with free weekly concerts at the Boardwalk and Capitola Beach. There is a Begonia Festival, Jazz concerts and shopping, just to name a few activities.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home can be divided into two units for privacy or separate rentals. The upper and lower story both each have a kitchen, family room and two entrances. In addition there are two bedrooms, three baths upstairs, and three bedrooms, two bath downstairs. Thus making it perfect for two families who want to share in the expense yet maintain their privacy, or a family who look to have their kids with their own total space. The new Harry Potter Bedroom on the 3rd level is a magnet for kids. TV, Dvd player, two twin beds, fold out bed, and 2 loveseats. Perfect for the munchkins own space!!
