Elevator.
Overlooking its very own beach is a family compound consisting of a main house, plus, a complete carriage house over the second double garage. This, all surrounded by lawns, palms, a maritime forest of ancient oaks with delightful wild creatures, a very private heated pool, and over 2500 sq/ ft. of decks with ocean and sound views. At the end of the street is a private day dock where one may while away a lazy afternoon, fish for dinner, launch a kayak, hop a SeaDoo, or tie up the boat for the day.
In the main house, a chef’s kitchen with granite counters, Italian accents, natural hickory cabinetry with a large, Bosch five burner gas cook top and Bosch electric, convection oven, Bosch dishwasher, Amana refrigerator and microwave, Blanco sinks and Grohe fixtures await the gourmand. Everyone will want to congregate in this room! We know!
The game room has another full size refrigerator/ice maker for overflow and beverages, along with its own wet bar and microwave for making snacks while watching one of the three 42” Panasonic flat screen tv’s on the property!
Challenge someone to a rousing Foosball game on a tournament table, or, play pool on a beautiful Brunswick slate table!
The attached cottage, sometimes referred to as “the carriage house” also has a complete fully equipped kitchen for all dining needs. It is also equipped with a 42” Panasonic plasma TV. The great room is enhanced by a gas fireplace (for shoulder and winter seasons.) Another 42” Panasonic flat screen TV and true surround theater sound. Sink into deep leather furnishings and enjoy a movie or sporting event.
The bedrooms are spacious, with two master suites, one with its own Jacuzzi and accessible shower en suite. Two family suites accommodate even the largest assemblies. Everyone has a proper bed – no sofa-beds in this house. Wrap around, covered porches in the Southern tradition are a feature of each and every bedroom. The carriage house has a delightful screened porch with ceiling fan, nestled into the treetops to enjoy soft Southern Nights.
The tower watch has 360 degree views of the Island, Ocean, and Sound. This is a great place to enjoy your favorite beverage prepared at the wet bar while, watching dolphins in one direction and the sunset over the sound in the other.
Finishes of travertine limestone, granite, hardwoods, and fine fixtures throughout, compliment the home. Leather furniture in the great rooms. Special care has been taken with a cable railing system to optimize views all around.
The game room has another 42” flat screen TV with surround sound, a Foosball table and sumptuous leather seating. Fix a beverage at the granite topped bar, make some popcorn…..relax in this NASCAR themed room.
The private, sparkling pool, hot tub and surrounding deck area are complimented by two shower/ dressing rooms, a lanai room, and easy access to two ground level powder rooms. One end of the pool has an elevated area which may be used for a DJ or small ensemble, (or a wedding party?), under the unique pergola. Three inside garages, two which will accommodate a boat and trailer, or caterer’s van are here for keeping your vehicles and toys out of the elements.
Last but not least, the family dog, (or two), are welcome guests. Dogs know how to have fun, and will gladly remind us! Being dog lovers, (with well trained owners), we just became tired of kenneling our dog and then having her know we’d been to the beach.
We believe you’ll find this South of the Light property to be unique on all of Topsail Island. Close to golf, shopping, boating, and family recreational activities.

Why the Owner Chose Surf City
Topsail Island is a destination, featuring both the Atlantic, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Fishing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, jet skiing, parasurfing, golf, miniature golf, bicycling and deep sea fishing......I'm sure I've left out something. Very much a family resort with friendly people.

We enjoy the beach, our private pool area, Carriage House for quiet times, enclosed garages for your fine automobiles, pool table, Foosball, 2 surround set-ups. Many deck chairs to watch the dolphins. 7 zone heating and cooling. All major areas are kept comfortable, with individual controls. All of the main house has access to the wrap-around, 270 degree decks, with cable railing to preserve the magnificent view while sitting down.

This is the most amazing place to stay on Topsail Island. With my normal crew of 20 close friends...we find ourselfs talking about this vacation home at least once a month. We cannot wait till the next year when it will be time to stay in this gorgeous home again. The rooms are perfectly laid out in addition to everything you may need to include a quick dip in the pool, or a relaxing evening in the hot tub. I would encourage anyone to rent this beautiful home for a vacation never to forget.

This beautiful property is the perfect place for a group to get together and spend a week at the beach. We filled it to capacity the first week of September, and had no problems. Any questions to Mike were promptly answered. We were a mixed group of family and friends from different parts of the country, arriving late after a wedding. We found everything to be as stated. Everyone totally enjoyed all the amenities, beautiful clean rooms, great kitchen, playing foosball & pool games, swimming, or just sitting and chatting in the living room and on the balconies enjoying the views. We played on the beach, in the pool, caught fish off the private dock, and some even surfed in the ocean. From the balcony we also saw the biggest group of dolphins we’ve ever seen! There were also grocery stores and restaurants just a short drive away. Guests comments were "what a great house," "the perfect place for the whole bunch of us," "we had so much fun," "we don't want to leave," and last but not least, "fabulous house!" We couldn't have found a better place for all of us to be together and have a truly fun time at the beach!

We rented from Mike and Suzanne in August 2011 for our family reunion and it was perfect. I can't imagine a better fit for our gathering. From the moment we called to ask about the house, to the day we left, the owners were incredibly gracious and helpful. The layout of the house works really well for a large family or friend gathering, as everyone has their own 'space' - bedrooms & bathrooms being on each side of the house. The game room was not used a whole lot, so I can't say much about it; the Living Room, the cupola (360 degree views!!!!) and the kitchen were where we spent most of our time. The kitchen appliances are all top-notch - we cooked for 26 every night and never had a problem. The dining area seating is set up for 20, which was not enough for us, but the deck space is so large that we were able to use it for overflow while the kids ate, and then the adults would sit and eat and kids would go back to whatever they were doing. The restaurants on Topsail were the one disappointment, so think about doing your own cooking. The pool is a great respite from the beach (temps were in the high 90's all week with 90% humidity) and the hottub was a treat at night. The carriage house is also a great additional perk for anyone who needs a little extra solitude from the main house - perfect if you have infants or toddlers who need to take it down a notch from time to time. The stairs in the mainhouse are steep, so keep that in mind if there are little ones who are still learning. There is an elevator, which was great because one of our party has limited mobility. Anything we needed, no matter how small, was either provided by Mike or he put us in touch with folks who could help us. The owners are just wonderful people - I can't say enough about them. I am confident that they really strive to work with people to ensure that they have a great time at the house. The location is great too - the only thing that would be better is if the house was right on the beach because you have to cross the road to get to it. This wasn't a big deal (even in August), but it does mean setting ground rules with the kids so they know to watch before they cross when going to the beach. The beach itself is beautiful - only a few houses have access there so it feels like a private beach. We had an incredible time there and you should definitely give Mike & Suzanne a call if you're heading to Topsail.

Our family of about 20+ members stayed here for the first time. The beach access was great and essentially private. The old folks stayed in the carriage house which was very comfortable and convenient for those who hit the sack earlier than the rest. Over the years the family has stayed at different places, but this one has it all!

Our family had not been together for several years so we hunted for a home big enough for all 27 of us to vacation in. This home met or exceeded all our expectations. Everyone had a fabulous time! Best of all, we made this our honored 50th Anniversary celebration with our children and Grandchildren at the beach with pictures we will cherish forever. Thanks for the memories.
