The house on the hill in Lanjaron is a wonderful place. Everybody will love it, I guess - except disabled persons who will not be able to deal with the steep slopes to the house. The views and landscapes that surround the house is marvellous and was a blessing every morning, when I opened the door. Life is lived in a quiet and very local way in the village, but people are friendly to foreigners and eager to help - especially if they understand your broken Spanish. Included in every stay I have had, was dinner at "Health" on the main road in the village. The owners attend the bar and the kitchen, witch provides the guests with deliciously prepared local food. Apart from the visit to "Health", you are highly recommended to create your own menus in the countryhouse out of the local vegetables, fruits and meat. At the market and in small ham and cheese shops you can spoil your self with tasty fresh goods. After filling two plastic bags with all kinds of good stuff, I paid 15 euro. A wonderful and very cheap holiday is offered in Lanjaron, resting among green hills and at the same time within reach of world famous, extraordinary Alhambra in Granada and many other exiting things, that Spain is known to offer. There is no luxury in the house, but the interior offers a rustique an authentic atmosphere which is much more appealing to me than an sterile hotel room. My only concern is..... when can I come back???

Charm, Culture and Coast -- Cortijo del Cano has it all!

When we came across this property it looked too good be true -- especially at the very competetive price.But in this case the experience of staying at Cortijo del Cano fully matched the pictures and descriptions. The cottages have a wonderful, individual feel to them; the grounds are a delight (we went at the tail end of the orange growing season and snacked on the crop throughout); the views are inspiring. Two other important things to note. First, the location -- for those who can't decide whether to go on a beach or "culture" holiday this offers both. Half an hour either way takes you to unspoilt coastal coves and to Granada, with its magnificent Alhambra and much more. Second, Greg the proprietor is an excellent host -- good for advice on things to do near and far (make sure he tells you about Granada's exceptional Flamenco Academy and its shows each Saturday), affable without being intrusive, and very accommodating. We took a family of four (two teenagers) and rented the lower cottage. It was cosy, but as the weather was kind we spent most of our time outdoors. Lanjaron has a great farmer's market which includes a fishmonger, so we dined happily on the daily catch. One word of caution: this property is not designed for a four-star luxury experience -- that is part of its appeal. It is comfortable, quirky, and thoroughly in keeping with its surroundings. If that's what you're after, then book and enjoy!

Idyllic rural house for the lovers of authentic Spain

My family and I just loved this charming house with the beautiful gardens and wonderful views to the valley. The house and its interior is authentic and antique in all its details, and the garden is well kept with lots of flowers, trees and a lovely swimming pool. There is a short stroll down to the charming streets of Lanjaron, which provide plenty of small shops and restaurants. And nearby the house you can find paths leading up towards the mountains, passing through beautiful, quiet areas with orange and lemon trees, small farms and flowers. The host (Greg) gave us a warm welcome and many tips that were of great use when we explored the area. I can strongly recommend this place both for families (children over 3) and for singles/couples. We certainly hope to be back and enjoy this idyllic site as soon as we can!

Lanjaron in March

We stayed for a week here. The place is great. It's just a 5 minute walk out of town but incredibly quiet. Gave you the feeling of being in the country but still close to town. The town is smaller but has everything you need. The people were really friendly and helpful about trying to figure out what we were saying (we were trying to learn spanish). We had no vehicle but were able to take a bus to a nearby town. There are not a lot of buses but it still isn't bad. There were lots of roads/trails that we went walking on. The trees and flowers were all just coming out so it was quite beautiful. What was really great was that Greg said we could eat some of his oranges. So every morning we picked fresh oranges for breakfast. Best oranges we have ever had. Greg was also helpful about telling us where stores were and walks we could go on. The town water is also a bonus about this area. We would definitely come back here again and probably for longer.

I stayed here... three years ago (where does the time go??) I had every intention of going back as everything about it was PERFECT - beautiful location, wonderful hosts, culture, climate and so on and so on... I had the good fortune to study Flamenco in house with Fina which was fantastic. I can't say enough good things! You will love it!

It is always a bit exciting arriving at a holiday home, is it really what we expected? The Cortijo was above expectations. Greg gave us a warm welcome at our arrival. We had the pleasure of tasting a meal from Fina which was deligfhtful. But the most important reason we choose this place was the great walking area and the distance to Granada. There are great walks in the area (TIP: Rother walking guide Andalucia South)and you can easily visit the Alhambra in one day. After our busy days we had a lovely time in Cortíjo del Caño. It is nice to enjoy the view and the quietness of the place with a glas of wine resting in a chair on the terrace.

We have stayed in the Cortijo, I think, around 8 times. In itself that says a lot . The accommodation is comfortable and subtly reflective of both the Alpujarras and the Moroccan/moorish influences which helped shape the area. The views down to Lanjaron, and the coast ranges are fantastic. The pool is in an idyllic setting framed by the hills above and the valley below and with almond trees for company! Lanjaron is about 10 minutes down hill on foot and about 15 back up..! There are plenty of grocery shops there, plus a health food shop and cafes and restaurants There are wonderful walks high into the hills from your doorstep on old mule trails...passing chestnut trees and goat farms! For those , like us, who try to manage without the (supposed)convenience of a car Granada and other parts of the Alpujarras are easily accessible by Alsina Graells buses. However, to access the coast easily you do really need a car To top it all Greg is a lovely warm man and a great 'host' Some of out happiest and most peaceful times have been spent here, in all seasons of the year.

It was perfect! The house is nice and clean; but the garden and the view are fantastic! We loved being in the middle of nowhere, but on the same time still nearby a nice village. Further: Greg is a lovely chatting guy, who we enjoyed drinking a wine or two with. Enjoy your holidays!

Everything you read about this accommodation in advance doesn't do it justice. This was the perfect rural idyll situated just out of town, facing over the valley and towards the mountains on the other side. The house is situated in very private grounds full of walnut, tangerine, orange and apple trees and lots of greenery. It's well appointed, very comfortable and homely with lots of local wood and colour (a designer or architect has had their their eye and hand at work) giving a real feeling of Andalucia without cliche. The pool is great with even better views. We couldn't praise the accommodation highly enough.

We had a wonderful stay in this nicely decorated very personal cottage. The owner is very helpful and a good source of information for the surroundings. Between Granada and the beach you can visit both easily.
