    • My wife and I enjoyed our stay in the efficiency on Harrington Sound. I arranged this location as I was swimming in the Bermuda Round the Sound Swim on 10/18/09. I was able to get used to the water in the Sound from the private stairs leading to a dock on the Sound from which to swim or launch the tandem kayak. The location was very private and we felt completely at ease on the deck by the pool and used both daily. We had our coffee and breakfast on the patio just outside the efficiency, watching the sunrise over the water. The bus stop is a ten minute walk and the local pizza restaurant not only had great pizza, but a dvd rental machine we used (we watched the DVD's on my laptop). We used the bus system (seemed safer than renting a moped) to go to Hamilton, the Royal Naval Dockyard, and St. Georges. The Aquarium and Zoo near Flatt's inlet is quite close and worth a trip, with dinner at Indigo's to follow (a quaint restaurant with great food across the street from the aquarium). We enjoyed the best fish and chips on the island at the Frog and Onion Pub at the dockyard and took the ferry back to Hamilton from there which is quicker than the bus. The trips to St. Georges were nice and on our last day we went to the Swizzle Inn and had a fine send off meal and then were picked up by Melvin Outerbridge, former fire chief, turned cab driver. I recommend the local rockfish cooked with banana or the Bermuda Fish Chowder. I also liked the Wahoo and other local seafood. Be prepared to spend a bit more than you are used to for groceries and dining out. The owner of the house and effficiency, Wayne Furbert, was a pleasure to talk to and he took us to the local market for groceries to make breakfast each day in the apartment. He gave us a ride to the post office to get bus tickets and gave us samples of coffee to use each day, which were a treat. The internet access allowed us to keep in touch with our kids and upload our many pictures from the trip. We drank the water straight from the tap and always had a bottle or two cooling in the refrigerator so we would not have to buy water while out hiking. Shelley Bay Park and beach are a five minute bus ride away and provide great snorkeling. Had we more time, we would have gone to more of the south shore beaches. The efficiency was clean, well equipped and the grounds were well kept. The views are gorgeous and the Sound is a wonderful place to swim. I found a 100 year old hair tonic bottle from New York in the shallows and kept it as a souvenir. We will definitely go back to Bermuda and plan to stay at Wayne's efficiency due to its central location, amenities, privacy, and the great hospitality of the owner. This was one of the most memorable trips we have taken and our return to Bermuda after sixteen years absence did not disappoint.

    • We just spent 4 days at Wayne's very cozy property and we would certainly consider staying there again in the future. First of all, the location was convenient enough no matter which part of Bermuda you decide to spend most of you vacation at. Public transit buses are plentiful and you can get a 1,2,3,4,7 day pass for unlimited rides on buses and/or ferries. Secondly, Wayne was a great host and took time out of his busy schedule to give us rides to and from the airport, make a grocery stop and even give us a little architectural tour of Tucker's Point and St.George, which we are very appreciative of since we could not have covered that much ground on our own. The apartment itself was immaculate, had plenty of room for 3 (including our very busy 4 year old) and a well equipped kitchen which was important for us to be able to plan hassle-free days. We did eat out 3 times, but only to try out some of the very recommended restaurants in the area (and they were worth the wait times and the prices), but we also found that there were not too many restaurant options that were unique or reasonably priced. The pool and bay views from the property were adequate to make it a great vacation if one is not big on exploring the beaches. The famous South Shore beaches were only 30-40mins away by bus and it was quiet easy to plan a full day picnicking on those beaches. The closest beach (at Shelly Bay) was about a 15min walk, but only 2 bus stops away. And all of this at a rental rate that takes away the edge from an expensive Bermuda vacation! Overall, a great trip that was made better with our choice of accommodation.

    • Wow! What a lovely vacation! If you're looking for a great getaway, consider this apartment. It is clean and nicely decorated, and though attached to the owner's main house, it feels very private. Wayne was a great host. He took us to get groceries and then to Hamilton to get bus passes and show us around a bit. You can't rent a car in Bermuda, so taking the bus is an easy and cost-effective option. The bus stop is about a 10-12 minute walk from the property. You can also rent a scooter, which Wayne can help arrange. The pool and grounds were immaculate. We took the kayak across the Sound to the small island and enjoyed finding conch shells. We had breakfast out on the deck every morning while enjoying the beautiful view. At night, we were able to watch our favorite shows because the large t.v. has full cable (including local Boston and New York stations). We also were close to the Bermuda Rail Trail, which provided a beautiful setting for a morning run. (Just be aware that the property at the end of the trail has two dogs who will bark if you try to go further). :) The location is about 20-25 minutes from both Hamilton and St. George's by bus, and a bit longer to the beautiful South Shore Beaches. However, we met several nice locals who were so friendly to chat with, the ride seemed quick. We were also only about 10 minutes from Ocean View Golf Club which has great rates. Taxis are easy to call for and fit our clubs with no problem. Overall, I would recommend staying at Neston to anyone looking for an amazing getaway for a great rate. We can't wait to go back!
