Fox Pond is a sanctuary for birds and an occasional fox. Guests can listen to a quiet waterfall and watch the koi swim through beds of water lilies and iris. The yard is distinguished by rock ledge, stonewalls, large oak trees and a 50’ reflective pond. Specimen trees include a red bud, birches, Japanese red maples, hemlocks, junipers and dogwoods. Accent lighting provides a magical view during the night’s darkness.
There is a path from the property to the ocean, which can be walked in three minutes. Hiking and biking trails are accessible providing a comfortable 30 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride to Marblehead center. The house is less than a 5-minute drive to beaches, shopping and restaurants.
Fox Pond has four queen bedrooms with private marble baths. The largest room is the Pond Room located on the first floor at the rear of the house. The Coral Room, Cloud Rooms and Canton Suite are large sunny rooms on the second floor in the front and Rear of the house. Each room is furnished with antiques, oriental rugs and a custom designer bathroom.
First Floor-Rear: POND ROOM is one of Marblehead's largest and most romantic rooms. Features include 23' cathedral ceiling, fireplace, Central AC, 32"HDTV, oriental rugs, Eldred Wheeler furniture, French doors to private deck, view of the gardens and 50'koi pond, double glass sink vanity, large corner shower and jacuzzi tub. The entire bathroom is Crèma Marfil Marble and light is provided by two crystal sinks back lighted to provide a warm glow. Perhaps the most dramatic element is the 19’ window wall, which provides breathtaking view of the surrounding oak trees or the lighted koi pond. Louise Lubetkin who is a writer and correspondent had this to say: “the addition includes a two story “window wall” that has the effect of erasing the boundary between the indoors and the outdoors in a breathtaking way.” The Pond Room is perfect for special occasions and will provide a lasting memory.
Second Floor-Front Right: The Coral Room is a large sunny room with southern and western exposure. There room has a wall mounted 32"HDTV, A/C and is furnished with antiques and oriental rugs. There is a new Eldred Wheeler canopy bed. Attached to the room is a full marble bathroom with a shower/tub and corner vanity. The shower and floor are Botticino Marble. The ceilings are cathedral with two opposing skylights and accent lighting.
Second Floor-Front Left: The Cloud Room is a large sunny room with eastern and southern exposure. The room is furnished with a TV and A/C. The Cloud Room features an Eldred Wheeler Acorn bed and the walls and ceiling are decorated with painted clouds. Attached to the room is a full marble bath with large corner shower, glass on glass enclosure and a view of the pond and formal gardens. The marble is Rojo Coralito, which gives the room a dramatic feel.
Second Floor-REAR: The Canton Suite has a bedroom with queen bed, private contemporary Chinese bathroom featuring a black lacqer vanity and cabinet, white marble floor(radiant heat) and walls, Jacuzzi and shower. The room features a Canton vessel sink and modern Chrome faucet below an atrium and skylight. In addition, there is an entertaiment room with a wall mounted 32"HDTV and pull out couch for two.

I came to Marblehead in 1987 to race my sailboat and purchased 31 Arthur Ave with the intentions to remodel and add to the existing home. The house was more than doubled in living area, a two car garage was constructed and over 2,000 square feet of decking and porches were added. The house is a showcase for my architectural business as well as a bed and breakfast. The house and gardens have been in numerous national magazines and one paper. I live alone with Sophie and enjoy times on the water and golf course.
Why the Owner Chose Marblehead
Marblehead is a quaint New England town with one of the largest sailing harbors in MA. There are many things to do and the location is central to Cape Ann, Newburyport, Boston, Concord and Southern NH and ME.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The house is located in an exclusive neighborhood with direct access to 33 acres of conservation land with nature trails leading to the town center (30 minutes). Beaches are 5 minutes by car and the town is 5+ minutes.

A wonderful family gathering

Our family (5 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and parents) gathered at Fox Pond for Christmas, 2010. One of our daughters working in Boston was unable to take time off to come home for Christmas to Hawaii so we all came to her - 3 from Honolulu, 3 from San Francisco and 2 from Williamsburg! We were welcomed by a blizzard which, for Hawaiians, couldn't have been more perfect. The vistas out the windows toward the 37 acre preserve in back was breath-taking. And the home very comfortably accommodated us all. We so enjoyed our stay and hope to return another time in the not-too-distant-future. This would be a lonely summer retreat as well. Aloha!
