In the historical centre of Venice CONTARINI BILOCALE is located just five minutes away from St Marc’s square, Hotel Danieli, Palazzo Ducale, Ponte dei Sospiri, Libreria Marciana and many other famous Venetian buildings of architectural interest. Walking distance to the public boats stops, taxi and shuttle to the airport.

The apartment is part of a 15th century building set on an important Venetian canal named “Rio de la Pietà” and overlooking the wonderful Greek’s Church cupola. The apartment, recently renovated, is equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, telephone, air conditioning etc.

All kinds of shops are in the immediate vicinity of the apartments: wine library, bakery, greengrocer, macaroni-maker, pastry shop, cafés, restaurants, laundry, chemist, pizza take away and two supermarkets. Such a comfortable situation is not common in Venice.

The apartment is split into two floors: a large living room, the kitchen, the master bedroom (the king's size bed can be changed into twin beds) and the bathroom with bathtub are downstairs; the upstairs roomy double bed loft is looking the lower floor and it’s enriched by a large window overlooking the wonderful Greek’s Church cupola.

CONTARINI BILOCALE has been reviewed in “The Guardian”, 10th September 2005.

The apartment was fantastic, comfortable, light filled and well set up with everything we needed for our stay in Venice. It is situated in a quiet location only 5 minutes walk from St Marks Square and the Vaporetto. There is a small supermarket, shops and restaurants nearby. We were met at the Vaporetto by our guide who helped us settle in and gave us some good tips for our stay. The apartment was clean and well maintained and we would happily recommend it to our friends and family. If we return to Venice we would love to stay again in this beautiful apartment. We had a fantastic time.

Excellent location close to st marks square yet quiet and easy to get away from other tourists . Local supermarket good and easy to self cater or eat out in style . Flat clean and spacious with good kitchen / bathroom equipment. Bed is comfortable and large . Would suit couple with older children who can share sofa bed on mezzanine or couple . Stairs to flat steep for elderly.

Owner response: As venetian buildings are built close each other, best apartments are at higher floors as these have more sun light and better view. Of course ancient buildings do not have elevator! Anyway our stairs are large and comfortable ones. Indeed Venice is a place where cars are not allowed, boats are very expensive and you can only walk to go anywhere making lots of steps to cross up and down the numerous bridges: if anybody has problem to walk or to make steps Venice is not the right place.

Great location, VERY quiet and dark bedroom (blackout shades on the curtains), which made for great sleeping. As mentioned previously, the apartment is at the top of a LOT of stairs, but that's not unusual for Venice. Also as another person mentioned, the washing machine has a very long cycle. We dried clothes in the loft as it rained a lot during our stay, and they dried in a very quick time (overnight). Only suggestion would be to stock the apartment with more toilet paper and some laundry detergent.

Our family of 2 teenagers and 2 adults stayed here for 3 nights and it was exactly what we needed. Slept all 4 of us very comfortably with lots of room and a great location. Having never been to Venice before we weren't sure what part of the city to stay in. The place is very close to Saint Marks and that famous landmark helped make it easy for us to find after a day of wondering and also very near a vaparetto stop. The only negative for some people might be all the stairs to get the apartment, but in Venice I don't think that can be helped!

We arrived at night and followed the instructions to the apartment. Being Venice, this was not easy but the instructions were clear and we found our guide without a problem. Not being familiar with Venice we were a little unsure of the location of this apartment and whether it would suit us but it was just right for us. Very close to the main attractions, San Marco Square, Grand Canal, but with a feel of authentic residence. Many small shops were close by for our needs. Not so close is the ATM and a supermarket so just be a little prepared. The apartment itself is very spacious and well appointed with beautiful views! Our stay was a dream. Would come back!

The apartment was perfect!! Communication with the owner,Mario, made our arrival in Venice smooth. We were meant by the keyholder who led us to the apartment and was a wealth of information, not only about the amenities of our new home, but also of the surrounding neighborhood, The location was 5 minutes form St Mark's square yet far enough away to be a quiet neighborhood with lots of local restaurants close by. The apartment was welcoming and vey cozy, everything we could have needed was on hand. The setting was wonderful and designed for a second honeymoon! I would highly this recommend,we will surely use it again!

Traveled about 3 months in Europe and this is one of the best places I've stayed. Americans: things are different (usually smaller) in other parts of the world! That said, this apartment is spacious for two and would be comfortable for four (with two sleeping in the loft). Location is pretty good, Venice is small, don't be fooled looking at the map. Kitchen is nice, large fridge (for Europe, half the size of what an American is used to), gas range, oven, dishwasher, most basics provided, nice dining table so if you want to eat 'at home' or just use it to spread out your stuff for planning. There are AC units in the main living area and main bedroom - close all the shutters/windows and turned on the one in the main living area to come back to cool apartment after a days walking. A fan is in the bottom of the hutch next to the kitchen and a power adapter for US -> Italy At night close the bedroom door and run the one in there by itself unless there are people sleeping in the loft. Nice furniture with plenty of storage space, fairly comfortable bed, a nice bathroom, although I might suggest a curtain for the tub/shower unit (which now has a hand-held sprayer) to the owner just so people don't get water all over if they try to shower while standing (I just sat down, did the usual washing, then stood up and rinsed off - there's a sliding tray that is handy). The sink is large. Washing machine is NICE to have as you can pack lighter, just keep in mind it does not dry and do not mix your colors! There is a laundry line outside the main windows and pins under the kitchen counter. It takes a VERY long time to run (probably like three hours) and won't give your clothes back until done. No power problems, although I know better than to try and run too many things which put a heavy load on the power source when traveling abroad. Two major items at once (AC, Oven, Water Heater, Laundry) for example is a good rule to go buy. Only gripe is the stairs to come up after you've walked your feet off for the day. But if you're in Venice that's the least of your worries when it comes to wearing yourself out. If you're unable to do stairs once or twice a day to the apartment you probably shouldn't be visiting Venice. Pharmacy, food and shops at street. There is a VERY cool/unique art shop below selling water-color paintings. Great price ranges ($20 post card sized stuff to larger prints $50-$100 and as high as $2000+ originals with nice hand painted frames).

The apartment is beautifully designed, bright, clean and comfortable with a delightful view over Venice’s rooftops. We enjoyed delicious coffee and pastries from the bakery across the road and shopped in the nearby supermarket, both recommended by our guide. Conveniently situated in a quiet neighbourhood, the apartment is only a short walk to the vaporetto stop and Saint Marks Square. Unfortunately we experienced problems with the power which went off several times during our stay and also had no hot water for a brief period of time. Although Mario was available to help, this proved to be quite inconvenient. As we were leaving, Mario was working to fix the problem and assuming the issue is now addressed we would be more than happy to stay at the apartment again in the future.

Owner response: As the guest writes, the problem was solved. We waited to answer the review as we wanted to be sure it was. Until now 7 January 2013 the problem has not happened again. We want to thank the guest who gave us helpful details which helped us a lot to solve the problem which already happened in the period and was not easy to fix.

My family of 4 enjoyed our stay. The apartment was large enough. Mario helped us out when we make online reservations and had to print the confirmation. Enjoyed a nice cup of cappucino at Caffe del Doge and supermarket is nearby. Location is really great if you want to be near Piazza San Marco. It was nice to have A/C in the apartment. We had to get used to taking a bath instead of a shower (no shower head but it was okay for us). The apartment is on the top floor so be advised if you are less mobile or have lots of luggage to tote.
