Although I have been coming to Santa Fe for nearly 40 years, this is the first time I stayed in a private casita. And it was a great experience. The owner was extremely gracious and helpful, and the casita was fantastic! It was decorated beautifully and comfortably. The bed was wonderful, the location fabulous, and just about every amenity you would want is there. And, the price is less than you would pay for a moderate hotel room. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I have been visiting Santa Fe for almost 40 years. We've stayed just about everywhere in and around the city, our favorites being La Posada and La Fonda (and Bishop's Lodge in the old days, before they went downhill), but we'd never tried a home rental. Having had excellent luck w/VRBO properties over the past few years, and planning a 5-night stay, we opted to try Casita Arbolita. We may never go anywhere else in Santa Fe from now on! The casita is truly a home away from home. It is like a hobbit house: everything you need in a small, efficient, charming space with lots of special touches to welcome you: great coffee beans, scones and fresh fruit, wine, and every kitchen "thingie" you might want. Comfy bed, cozy throws, blazingly fast wi-fi service, good TV reception in two rooms, free telephone service, and a great shower with lovely bath products (the Body Shop clementine body wash was divine). The location could not have been better for us. You're a block-and-a-half away from the Guadalupe Cafe (great breakfast and lunch) and two doors down from that is the venerable Pink Adobe/Dragon Bar. The plaza is a short two-block walk beyond that. There's also a neighborhood market practically across the street from the casita; we heard good things about it but it was closed for renovations during our stay. And Trader Joe's is only a 5-minute drive away (and, most conveniently, right across the street from Maria's). Since we're "old timers" we didn't need a lot of travel/dining recommendations, but Janice was obviously well-up on all the best choices, both old and new. This trip, we were strictly into sampling the best native NM cooking (and margaritas!), so we skipped Geronimo, Rio Chama, The Bull Ring, etc. and instead haunted Maria's, La Choza, Thomasita's, Rancho Chimayo and The Pink. One night, when we were too exhausted to think about either driving or walking anywhere, Janice recommended ordering pizza from Upper Crust, just down the street. It arrived piping hot & was delicious; they also have great salads. Casita Arbolita lived up to its listing description, its listing photos, and then some. The only teeny-tiny negative I can think of is the challenge of making a left turn out of the driveway onto Old Pecos Trail, which must be daunting @ the height of tourist season. Just be brave, be patient, use the mirror provided -- and consider making it a RIGHT turn instead!

We stayed for 5 nights in April 2013, and it was wonderful! Absolutely charming house, felt way bigger than it is, very comfortable and cozy, so close to downtown we walked almost everywhere. Had all the comforts of home, even a kiva fireplace in the bedroom and a washer & dryer. We were welcomed with coffee, fruit, scones and other treats, and Janice had great advice on restaurants. We highly recommend this casita to anyone staying in the area, and will more than likely stay here again when we return to Santa Fe.

Stayed in this wonderfully decorated and stocked casita for our anniversary weekend. The weather was cold and snowy, but we stayed comfy and warm inside. I loved the radiant heated floor in the living room and never wore shoes. The fireplace in the bedroom was also a nice touch to warm and set the mood!! The location of this vacation rental was perfect for walking everywhere. We rented a car at the airport and only used it to get back and forth to the airport. Walking the neighborhoods and downtown areas occupied our days and made for some great finds. The casita was clean and well appointed. The owner must love to shop at Trader Joes, as most food supplies were from that wonderful grocery store. The wine, beer and snacks provided were delicious and gone by the end of the weekend! Thanks for a relaxing, warm and comfortable weekend.

We had an excellent stay here. Off street parking made it easy to access, and it is within walking distance of loads of great galleries, restaurants, and there is a small market nearby for groceries. Our hostess was pleasant and we had a great stay in Santa Fe as a result. The apartment had all of the amenities we could have hoped for, full kitchen, washer/dryer, fireplace etc. The furnishings were pleasantly comfortable and it was very clean and well cared for. Accessibility notes for travelers with mobility concerns: The whole apt is on ground level from the back door with one small step up to the living room. Front door has two steps down into the living room.

We had a wonderful visit in Janice and Tom's lovely and compact little Casita. This was the best VRBO rental we have ever had. The place was stocked with many amenities you usually don't find in a vacation rental and Janice was so helpful with ideas about where to eat, ,what to do. Having a bottle of wine and muffins and snacks waiting for us after traveling was so appreciated. The place was lovely and having a fireplace in the bedroom was lovely. The location was perfect, walking distance to the historic plaza and many restaurants. Thank you for making our short vacation great, Janice.

It was like staying in someones's lovingly decorated home - not like a rental property. All the amenities were there - comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen, flat screen TV (with lots of DVDS), kiva fireplace, great location, laundry facilities, good reading lamps, plus filled with art and Santa Fe charm. All of this plus a delightful welcome basket of goodies including good coffee! And the owners are extremely helpful with suggestions of where to eat, etc. My husband and had a lovely 2 week stay and highly recommend it.

You walk into this casita and are greeted with charm. From the beautifully decorated interior to the hand written welcome card and snacks for the weary travelers. This casita is quiet, clean, comfortable and a 10 min walk to downtown Santa fe. There is a full kitchen if you wish to cook and a lovely sitting area to relax. My favorite is the bedroom with the clever adobe tree (casita arbolita) and the little (functioning) fire place. The owner was quick with her communication and did everything possible to make our stay pleasant. I would choose this rental again.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: A massage therapist for the last 24 years, I work both at Ten Thousand Waves, an exquisite Japanese-style spa, and at my own private studio. I came to Santa Fe twelve years ago for a short visit, and fell in love with the land, the sky, the interesting mix of people. An avid rafter, skier, hiker, I love the close proximity of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This, coupled with the diverse artistic offerings make this community a unique place to live.

Why the Owner Chose South Capitol:
My vacation rental is in an ideal location, just blocks from the city center, a wonderful local market, and the artistic center of the city, Canyon Road. My tenants can park off-street and walk to many major restaurants, galleries, and historic landmarks. It is a perfect location for lobbyists and legislators working in the government since the Capital Building is right down the street.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Casita Arbolita is a work of art; hand-crafted details-travertine shower, granite-tile countertops, flagstone and cherry wood floors, mahogany cabinets, Anasazi stone steps, private courtyard with a gas grill. Wi-Fi satellite TV, washer/dryer, off-street parking, a fully equipped kitchen and more. Its location provides an opportunity to visit Santa Fe without needing to drive or be concerned with parking.
