Why the Owner Chose Crossville
I bought this house because it is next door to the house I grew up in. Both houses are located in a National Historic District on the Cumberland Plateau in Crossville, Tennessee. They are only two of the two hundred and fifty homes built during the Great Depression to teach new skills to out-of-work miners and farmers during Franklin Roosevelt's presidency. These men also built schools and churches in the community. A park built for the community later became Cumberland Mountain State Park. The park is one mile from the vacation home. Many government agencies assisted in the training program. There are two museums in the Historic District to tell the story of these people who were part of the "Greatest Generation."
The Unique Benefits at this House
I enjoy getting away from the stress of our world today, and slipping back to a simpler place in time. It is a place to just slow down, to appreciate nature, and get back in touch with one's self and what is important in life. There is ample wildlife, a pond for fishing, camping, or star gazing. However, it is only a short drive (five miles) into the town of Crossville, TN which has evolved from a farming community to a tourist mecca. There are shops, outlet mall, restaurants, a community playhouse, movies. It is a small town with a big city attitude.
Owner's Map of Crossville
I grew up in Crossville, Tennessee and have loved this area all my life. I wish to share this little bit of heaven with others. My career was that of Executive Director of a apartment rental complex. I enjoy people, and my retirement plan was to open a Bed and Breakfast in the area I call "home." However, most people prefer just the standard vacation rental because they are anxious to get to the many events and beautiful places that area has to offer.
