Become a neighbor!
I am so thankful for the wonderful people who have stayed at my little place. They have been fun to meet - and have treated it with such respect it still feels new. I appreciate that...since David and I put so much love and work into this place.
I only have a few spots open for 2013. Please look at the calendar before contacting me and if any of the dates can work for you, let me know!
The Denali Park Place is a 900sf apartment on the top floor over our office/garage.
Placed at the back of our 5 acre parcel of land, the setting is quite peaceful and private – although the sound of sled dogs howling isn’t unusual. Caribou, moose, snow shoe hare, and perhaps even a grizzly bear might be sighted from the array of windows and Denali National Park with it's wildlife is only minutes away.
The view out of any of the windows frames beautiful mountains, and the granite breakfast bar is a perfect place to write postcards while enjoying the scenery. There is plenty of room to lounge in the large living room with two couches offering wonderful views and lots of natural light.
Just a few minutes away, Denali National Park offers visitors a variety of tours. The Visitors Center and the Murie Science and Learning Center are a couple of my favorite local places to go. The displays are great, as are the free movies and lectures, and I especially like sitting in the big chairs in front of the 'wood' stove and reading. This is the kind of activity you miss if your visit is rushed - and yet will be most memorable if you take the time to do it!
In addition to the park and visitors center, there are excellent restaurants, tours, and gift shops located near by.
Should you want to spend some time lounging at home, there's a stereo system and a DVD player with 52' television.
You will need your own transportation to visit the area.

If you are planning a trip to Alaska and want to take in Denali National Park, we recommend this property to you. Accommodations were exactly as described. The place was clean and we could tell the homeowner takes great pride in the property. The location was excellent, secluded but very close to the park and any related activities we wanted to do. Try out the sourdough waffles and take in the restaurant, 229, across the highway.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We absolutely loved this apartment! It was better than the pictures showed and our hostess was so very nice. I'd recommend this place to anyone. It was perfect. Everything you need to cook is there. I got to make sourdough pancakes with fresh cranberries picked from the back yard! When we wanted to go out to eat 229 Parks (arguably the best restaurant in all of Alaska) is right across the street from the entrance to the neighborhood. Loved it!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We spent 2 weeks in Alaska this summer. We stayed in everything from hotels, B&B's, condo's and a cruise ship. Our stay at Denali Park Place was our favorite. You couldn't ask for a nicer apartment, the location is incomparable .. we encountered a Moose and her 2 calves walking through the yard and the sled dogs were so much fun. The apartment itself is spotless, comfortable and has every convenience needed. We will definitely come back to Denali and when we do, we will definitely stay here.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We stayed here for 5 days the last week of August. Denali Park Place was fantastic! Beautiful apartment, very clean and nicely appointed. Apartment has everything you need to make your home for a week or more. Having a washer/dryer was very convenient as we tended to get muddy/dirty poking around Denali National Park. Enjoyed meeting her dogs and hearing them sing with the other local dogs. Lisa (owner) was also very nice. Full of advice of where to go and what to see. Be sure to ask her for dinner recommendations to avoid the Glitter Gulch crowd!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We loved our week at Denali Park Place. It is convenient to the Park but feels secluded, surrounded by beautiful scenery that can viewed from every window. The art and decorations reflect the exuberant personality of the owner. Getting to know Bronte and Vincent, the two resident sled dogs, was so much fun. Our grown son was with us and we were a little concerned about three people in that space but it worked out great since the kitchen/great room is spacious. Everything was spotless, well equipped and close to dozens of hiking trails. We hope to get back to Alaska in the future for viewing of the Northern Lights. If available that time of year, Lisa's place would be our number one choice of a place to stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We loved our stay at Lisa's place! Lisa has put her woman's touch on a cozy, well-lighted above the garage apartment. Great art, large south-facing windows, softly playing music on a great sound system, and flowers welcomed us. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable furniture, and well-designed spaces make this a place to linger for many days. About 10 miles from the park entrance yet in a secluded neighborhood make this a quiet, off the beaten path stay. One of the best restaurants in the area is blocks away. We couldn't have asked fora better location! Lisa is an iditarod completer and her book is on the counter. Delightful read in the sunny rocker by the windows! Even better to hear some of her story directly from her. She's quite a lady and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her. We also enjoyed her dogs, Vincint and Bronte housed just outside. Friendly dogs who enjoyed attention and made us homesick for ours! Overall, one of the nicest VRBOs in which we've stayed. We'll be back again for a longer stay!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Our family loved Denali Park Place! It was very clean and comfortable and Lisa was a delightful hostess with a wealth of information about what to do in the Denali National Park and Alaska. The kids loved having the dogs around and were very impressed with their Iditarod status. This place has all the comforts of home and we loved being in the woods away from it all, yet close to the park. Our only regret was that we wished we could have stayed longer! We highly recommend Denali Park Place!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

All we kept saying was "You can't see this on a cruise!" We loved our stay with Lisa and her dogs! We loved being in the middle of the forest, meeting a true Alaskan and her Iditerod dogs and hearing her stories and suggestions for our visit to Denali. We really enjoyed our visits with her and the puppies. We made some sourdough pancakes with her starter kit and then brought some spoons back to Iowa to pass on to others and start our own. We are big history buffs, so the history of the sourdough and the Iditerod was fascinating to us. You will love your stay here! We plan to go back and stay here next time we are in Alaska!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I stayed at the apartment last week and it was a delight! Lisa, the owner was very kind and made sure that we were accomodated and also made any suggestions for park activities. Her dogs were also quite charming, and you will love them and find them non bothersome even if you are not a dog lover! The apartment was immaculately clean and well stocked and the location is very convenient! I would stay here again if I chose to return!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This a wonderful one bedroom rental about 10 to 15 minutes from the entrance to Denali. It is a perfect place for a couple. As depicted in the pictures, the unit is spotless and very well maintained with a reasonably well stocked kitchen. It's located about a mile off Parks Highway in a quiet neighborhood about ten miles south of the entrance to Denali In addition, Lisa is a very friendly owner who checks to ensure that the guests have everything they need and is more than willing to talk about her love of Alaska. She was also very helpful in the renatl process in providing suggestions about things to do as well as books to read about Denali. When we return to Alaska, we will definitely be staying here.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

About the owner: RAVEN ABOUT ALASKA (my business name, because it is what I do!) David and I met 1983 while commercial fishing on Kodiak Island. We bought our first fishing operation a couple years later and bought remote property in 1989. While Kodiak's Uganik Bay is still home, after commercially fishing for 24 years I decided to try something else. One of my current jobs is as a tour guide in Denali National Park. David is still fishing for salmon and halibut on Kodiak Island so we commute between two of the most beautiful places in the world. I am in love with Alaska, heart and soul. The artwork and books in my house and the Denali Park Place are part of my personal collection of favorites. If you like history just ask me about the Alaskan flag I have that came from the person who designed it... or the autographed book by the very first person to lead a successful climb up Mount McKinley in 1914! Sometimes I think the only reason I want to provide a vacation rental is to show off this place I love so dearly... Alaska.
Why the Owner Chose Denali:
In 1997 we went on a vacation that changed our lives. Living in Kodiak, we thought it would be a cool winter vacation to go to Nome to see the finish of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. I became obsessed. Poor David! First I worked as a volunteer with the Iditarod, then I got a job training racing huskies, and then I wanted land near the huskies I trained. In 2002 I did the 1049 mile race across Alaska, finishing the Iditarod in 14 days with a wonderful team of dogs. My book, 'Running with Champions: A Midlife Journey on the Iditarod Trail', has been very successful and once again changed my life's direction (and David's!). We bought land in the interior of Alaska and now call both Kodiak and Denali home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The community of Denali borders Denali National Park and Preserve. Minutes away from this secluded property are all the amenities of Denali National Park - tours, restaurants, hiking, shopping, wildlife viewing. There is something for everybody. My dogs were from a winning Iditarod team, so if you are interested in getting to know some retired champions, they will be more than willing to accommodate you! This really is a pleasant place. Become a neighbor and see for yourself...
I also supply some of my Heirloom Sourdough Starter so you can make yourself some delicious hotcakes from real Alaskan sourdough! It's easy - you'll love it! I consider myself a sourdough geneologist (!) because I am tracking the history and writing a book on this particular heirloom sourdough. Read about it on one of my sites - the history is fantastic and the taste is even better!
