Casa Maderas Y Olas (Woods and Waves)

Casa Maderas y Olas (Woods and Waves) is situated on the headland in between Playa Maderas and Playa Maesella in a most relaxing setting of woods and waves! Perched on its own small hill the house has a beautiful view of ocean and trees. You can walk to Playa Maderas, Majagual, or Marsella for surfing, swimming or snorkeling (Maderas is closest at a 10 minutes walk down a private road). There is a perfect amount of breeze at the Casa, due to it being just below the top of the hill, affording some natural protection. Howler monkeys are quite common in our area and can be seen on occasion in the surrounding trees.
The house was built with comfort and, local, style in mind. The floors are all beautiful varnished hardwood; the ceilings are high and varnished cane. The bedrooms are large and identical with A/C units, fans, and en-suite bath rooms; they are located at opposite ends for privacy, one with a king bed and the other with two twins (That can be made into a king). The kitchen is open and has everything needed to be self-contained. The main room has three seating areas all within a large open flowing space.
There are several other restaurants and amenities within the local community. There is a wash machine and line dry facility at the house or we can arrange to have a maid service at $10.00 per visit to clean and do laundry. There is also an outdoor shower to get the salt off after being at the beach!
Casa Maderas is a unique and stylish house, perfect for 1 or 2 couples or for small families.

THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN SJDS

This place is awesome! Much better than any hotel in the area and for a way better price! A five minute walk from Playa Maderas. A ten minute drive to San Juan Del Sur. This wonderful home has beautiful hard wood floors, high wood ceilings, a kitchen with all the necessities, two LARGE bedrooms with AC, and each with a private well-appointed bath. One bedroom has two beds and the other has a king sized bed, all with mosquito netting, which you wont need because the house is well sealed and screened. All the amenities are available including towels and soap. Besides its comforts, beauty and proximity to Playa Maderas and San Juan Del Sur, another great thing about this place is the neighbor Felix and his dog Star. Felix is exactly the dude on the Dos Equis commercials. Super suave, nice guy. In short, I can't think of a reason why anyone would ever want to stay at a hotel or any other rental in the area. The other rental houses in San Juan Del Sur vicinity must be pissed about this place because Casa Maderas Y Olas is nicer and has more to offer than the other rentals in the area but at 1/4 the price! We certainly will be back, in fact, I don't think we'd stay anywhere else when in Nicaragua. Sincerely, Michelle van A.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Wow, thanks Michelle. We really appreciate it and I am happy that you enjoyed yourselves. Sincerely, Gary Olsen

Prepare for rugged, and you'll love this amazing location. The house is beautiful and modern, however when the electricity was out for about 12 hours, it was HOT and slightly inconvenient. The neighbor who gave us the key and showed us around the house is a treasure. He came over with flashlights and demonstrated how to get water from the outdoor tanks to flush the toilets. The road from San Juan del Sur to the house was a challenge for our 4-cylinder rental car, adding to our sense of adventure. The beach is fabulous - for surfing lessons (which our 22 year old daughter took) or for experts - which we watched many of. Wonderful for beach walks, shell collecting, great places to eat on the beach. The walk from the house to the beach gives you an opportunity for aerobics along with the relaxation:) The owner is extremely helpful and friendly - also a real plus!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We had a wonderful time with our three year old son in this comfortable, relaxing home. The home is located in a small, secluded development, surrounded by trees and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We heard howler monkeys throughout the day. A beautiful beach, complete with shack restaurants (try the excellent fish tacos!) is a 10 minute walk away. Gary, the owner, was very helpful in answering my questions and helping us prepare our trip. He has arranged with a very accomodating neighbor to make sure everything is in order once guests arrive. We visited without a car, and would do it again, but others may find themselves more comfortable with a 4x4 rental. The home is located at the top of a steep hill, and walking to the beach or the main road involved an athletic climb. Taxis shuttling people from the town to the beach and back pass regularly, and it is easy to flag one for a ride into San Juan del Sur (~$10/20 minutes). We look forward to returning to this comfortable, beautiful home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
