Location: Dewees Island, Charleston Area, South Carolina, USA (11 Miles North of Charleston, South Carolina)
Accommodations: "The Five Palms" Island House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
"Five Palms" is nestled among oaks and palms on Dewees Island, an environmentally conscious, 1200 acre barrier island and wildlife sanctuary located just north of the the Isle of Palms near Charleston, SC. Access to Dewees is via a relaxing 20-minute ferry ride aboard the 62 passenger “Aggie Grey” that launches every hour from IOP and returns on the half hour from Dewees Island.
Upon your arrival at The Landings on Dewees Island, your cart(s) of belongings are rolled up the dock with the help of the first mate. Our personal golf carts await you for a leisurely drive through nature and wildlife passing tennis courts, pool, and private beach along the way to the house.
From the time you enter the front door, you’ll know the “Five Palms” is a home that has been designed with care... heart pine flooring, overhead beams and antique doors with working transoms all harvested from an old South Carolina pack house and antebellum home, granite counter tops, king and twin beds with Kingsdown mattresses, a hot tub, state of the art sound system, satellite TV, ping pong and darts, fish cleaning area, and two golf carts. A relaxing, quiet, vacation awaits!
The lifestyle on Dewees is easy and the noise level is nonexistent except for singing birds and the occasional crackle of leaves from the step of a deer, rabbit, or raccoon in the woods. This island paradise offers the quiet and simple lifestyle of by-gone days where windows and doors can safely be left open for the sounds of nature and the breeze to flow through.
The fishing, crabbing, and shrimping is incredible and the pristine beach, chlorine free pool, tennis courts and Huyler House (island activity center) are all easily accessible by walking or golf cart ride. Our island environmentalist offers a variety of tours and mini classes around the island. You can sign up to participate in scheduled events which you will find posted on the ferry and at The Landings. May 15 – October 15 is loggerhead sea turtle nesting and hatching season. You can volunteer with the Island Turtle Patrol for morning nest patrols or evening hatching checks.
After relaxing in the laid back atmosphere of Dewees for a while, you can board the ferry for quick access to the hustle and bustle of the Isle of Palms, Mt. Pleasant, and Charleston all which offer a plethora of activities for every age. Dewees Islanders feel blessed to be positioned conveniently with easy access to two completely different worlds. You can find more information about Dewees Island on the internet.

Why the Owner Chose Dewees Island
After visiting many beaches along the SC coast, we knew on our first visit to Dewees Island that this was the place for us to build our beach house. We love the intercostal waterway and the privacy of the island, but also enjoy access to all the Charleston area has to offer.
The Unique Benefits of this "The Five Palms" Island House
We enjoy having easy access to two completely different worlds... the laid back easy and quiet lifestyle of Dewees Island and the hustle and bustle of culture in the Charleston area.
