Lake City townhome description
Location, Location, Location! Many people feel this property is similar to being on a houseboat. The spacious deck is directly over the water of Lake San Cristobal. You can hear the lapping of waves as you read or eat on the lovely front deck. The majestic mountains surrounding the lake are green in summer, aspen covered in fall, and snow covered in winter.
The area is well know for its five fourteen thousand foot mountain peaks. Hiking on the many surrounding trails will follow streams, waterfalls, and valleys filled with wildflowers. There is also the wonderful Alpine Loop that takes jeeps and four-wheelers across the continental divide to the high country land of mountain Shepard's and tundra. Silverton and ghost towns such as Animas Forks are also along this route.
Of course fishermen think this is paradise. The lake and all the surrounding streams provide wonderful fishing. In September Lake City has a Wine and Music Festival. In winter there is abundant snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice climbing. The beauty and serenity of the forests at this time offer experiences to be remembered. This is the time of year that captures the quiet of the season. Relaxing with a book by the fire is also a welcome treat. This home provides a respite from the usual business of the world.

Imagine yourself stepping into a post card perfect world. Lake San Cristobal. We have traveled Colorado extensively, loving every minute of our travels, but have especially enjoyed this unexpected treasure, Lake City. The area is beautiful, unspoiled. The citizens are friendly and welcoming. It is an "old-fashioned" life-style with every modern comfort you could want (cell service, cable, restaurants, shops, library, internet cafe) The true wonder of the place though is Mother Nature. Wow! She has out-done herself here with the aspen groves, wildflowers, five 14ner's, waterfalls, primevil forests, crystal-clear streams, rocks/cliffs.... This townhome on the lake is a perfect 10 for views, simple elegance, peace and comfort-- not to mention a fully equipped kitchen, 2 ensuite bedrooms, a large deck overlooking the lake. We love the home's "rustic-elegant-western" design, and its location right on the water---literally. It is comfortable, clean, beautiful, and like everything else in Lake City, a jewel. We have come to enjoy this townhome in every season. There is an endless supply of activities like hiking, four-wheeling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain climbing, birding, fishing, ice climbing, boating---pick your activity or just sit there soaking in the beauty. Oh wait! Thinking about it, maybe you shouldn't come here---I'd like to keep it all for myself!

A Beautiful Getaway
A Beautiful Getaway
My family and I have vacationed in this condo for one week each of the past five years. I can honestly say that I have never stayed in such a quaint and comfortable rental. We are always particularly struck by the tastefulness of the decor, which is western/rustic themed without being obnoxious. The master bedroom and living room offer unbelievable views--a spectacular expanse of lake surrounded by mountains. This vacation home allows a person to really, truly escape the stresses of daily life and immerse oneself in nature. Fishing, hiking, four-wheeling, horseback riding, mountain biking and kayaking are several of my family's favorite Lake City pastimes. The area is filled with Jeep trails which can be used to take day trips to nearby towns, including Ouray, where there are some lovely hot springs. On our "down" days, we like to spend time reading and napping on the large deck which, by the way, is frequented by a large and verbose clan of hummingbirds. While on hikes we've spotted a wide variety of wildlife. We are always particularly excited to see mountain goats. Despite the rental's proximity to nature, the town of Lake City is less than 10 minutes away by car. The little town has several restaurants, some fitness classes, a bakery, grocery store, library, coffee shop, movie theater, and a few other amenities--but don't expect a booming metropolis. The Lake City grocery store is small and can be a bit pricey, so we often pick up groceries when we drive through Gunnison. But, the Lake City grocery store has enough to get you by if you can't make it to Gunnison. The rental has a furnished kitchen, so we often cook our own meals and eat on the deck. I cannot say enough good things about our annual trip to Lake City. It's our chance to reconnect with nature and each other, and disconnect from our laptops and cell phones. While we also enjoy vacationing at beaches or ski resorts, everyone in our family agrees--our annual trip to Lake City feels uniquely like a homecoming.

About the owner: My husband and I live in Colorado Springs ,Co. We live in the foothills with views of the city and the mountains. So why did we buy property in the mountains when we already live in the mountains? Because of the lake! Not many spots in CO. where you can have MOUNTAINS AND LAKE! JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!
Why the Owner Chose Lake City:
Again , we bought it because our deck is literally right over the water. The serenity of water and mountains is a powerful combination. We were also attracted to a REAL western small town. It is NOT a hectic commercial .mountain town. You can still experience a by gone era here . Something that's fun to share with our grandchildren.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
This is an end property . That says a lot! It is quiet and is your own! i do interior design work ,so it was a natural for me to see the possibilities of this unique property and I ran with it! I have had a wonderful time decorating my mountain home. It is fun western - log beds, antler light fixtures, deer wallpaper, western real art but not cutesy. It makes me feel good to be in joyful surroundings, and paying attention to detail is my thing.
