We stayed here with friends and family and had a blast. It is a beautiful and very well-maintained, clean home. The deck is large, and has a beautiful and peaceful view of the water. The hot tub is wonderful and is right on the deck. A couple things to note: The 3rd bedroom is very small; just room for the double bed and not much else. The hot water supply is very limited, and had run out after 2 people took showers. The central heating in the home is very uneven. One bedroom was 100 degrees while the living room was 50 degrees. Despite those issues, we would definitely come back again (but perhaps not in the winter!).
Owner response:We are glad you enjoyed your stay, but are very surprised to hear about the hot water issue. We lived there for 3 years with 4 people and never ran out of water after 2 showers. With older homes, the heat is not as even as it would be in a newer home. That being said, 50 degrees difference just seems like a big overstatement, and frankly not possible. Our 3rd bedroom is very small & it used to have a twin bed, but we had several comments from guests over the years asking us to replace it with a queen bed so that more people could stay. The response from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive regarding that change, but I do appreciate the comment & will keep it under consideration.

Three friends and I stayed at the property in January, 2012 while we were participating in a writers' program at the nearby Captain Whidbey Inn. The house is very well kept, unbelievable view and ambience. Not only is the kitchen fully stocked with cooking utensils and so on, the spice cupboard is full! Close to town, quiet area. The weather was crisp (it was January after all!) but the house was warm and welcoming. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

I've stayed at several vacation rentals in and around Coupeville for the past few years and this is hands down the best—the best view, accommodations, amenities and landlords. This past January, I shared the house with three other adults (all writers), and we couldn't have been more perfect for us. Lots of room for privacy, as well as shared areas. I had the small room with the big bed and a sweet little view of the cove, and the bed was heavenly (hard to find comfort like that away from home). Unlike many other rentals, the pictures are not only accurate, they don't do the home justice (the whole water side of the house is windowed and the view is stunning). The landlords take care of it like their own home and are quick to respond if there's an issue (we went a little overboard on the garbage disposal and the landlord came out within an hour--on a Friday night no less--to unplug our mess, and was good-natured about the whole thing). When I stayed there in the summer, the deck, grill, hot tub and steps (literally, just four or five) to the beach created the total package. Can't say enough good things about it.

This is a great place to bond with family members, you can just relax and enjoy the fantastic scenery. Our adult children enjoyed kayaking. I was enjoying picking up mussels only to be advised later by my daughter after she looked up online that Penn Cove was a 'red alert' area at that time, so I I didn't want to take the risk and returned the mussels in the water. The house has so much space that our grandson just loved it. I wish one of us was a piano-player, that would have been a good time to listen to relaxing music. Everyone in the family agree that we will be returning! Big thanks to Douglas and Tara for sharing their beautiful place!

What a fantastic place for our relatives to meet and visit! We loved every aspect of this family-oriented vacation home. There was something for all ages: drinking coffee in the kitchen looking over the cove, walking on the beach looking for shells, going out on the kayaks, taking a dip in the hot tub, seeing bald eagles, otters and seals, sight-seeing and shopping on Whidbey Island. Space, comfort and every convenience imaginable was provided, but above all, the sheer beauty of this property tops the list. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us!

Our family spent a long weekend here celebrating birthdays. It was an outstanding choice. The weather was great, the sunrises were absolutely the most beautiful sunrises I have seen. You can't help but feel at home here and we all really hated to leave. The kayaks were an added bonus and were also thoroughly enjoyed. We spent great quality time with our children and grandchildren and for that we are most grateful for your generous hospitality. The view and the house are truly worth a stay at Penn Cove. We hope we can return to celebrate more birthdays here.

Wonderful home to make your "base" for touring the area. Beautiful appointments with spectacular views! Wildlife from the back porch, dining room, living room and breakfast room table! Seals, otters and numerous birds all entertained us daily. Four well traveled ladies from Texas all agree this is a beautiful area and wonderful home in which to stay. Would recommend to anyone.

This was more beautiful than the pictures could show it. We had a great family reunion with my brother's family from Whidbey and mine from the Midwest. What a great place to use as a central location for sightseeing. (We did not go off the island as there was much to see in the week that we were here). When we come back we will definitely come here. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

This is an absolutely outstanding vacation rental! You will not be sorry if you choose it for your next getaway. My mom, sister and myself have stayed in other vacation rentals in Canada, the US, and the UK-- this is far and away the best of any of them. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped. But the best thing of all is THE VIEW-- it is just magnificent! It was difficult to move away from the deck and deck chairs to do or see anything else on the island. We are all missing it this morning and wish we were back at "our" house on Penn Cove! The Ristows-- Cheryl, Cindy and Myrth

Our family had a wonderful experience on Penn Cove. The home was beautiful and well maintained. The view was spectacular. We watched bald eagles, a heron and otters. We searched for clam and mussels right on the beach. The kids enjoyed looking for star fish and crabs to play with. The kayaks were a great bonus. The hot tub was a relaxing end for each evening. The location was awesome! We were close to Ebey Park (has great hiking), Coupeville (quaint little town), Oak Harbor (restaurants and shopping), Deception Pass (hiking and beach combing), Meerkert Gardens and more. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home. It was just what our family needed.

We had the most wonderful vacation ever in the beautiful Penn Cove home. Everything was first class and there was really nothing missing. If peace and tranquility are what the Dr. Ordered this is the place. The photos capture it exactly as it is. We were comfortable having our family with us and also alone with wonderful nature walks. It was easy to stay in touch with the wireless service available. The Whidbey Island coffee is wonderful! I would highly recommend this vacation retreat without hesitation and look forward to being back again. Terri and Gianni Long Beach, California
