I was just contacted today by the rental agency that we renterd this property from and they has asked me to post a review regarding our stay at this home. I have worked with Waya Rentals for many years and I was more then happy to do so. I decided to read the reviews regarding this home before I posted my comment. One thing I have to say is some people are just bitter !! This home as all the home we have stayed at that Waya Rentals manages was very clean and was well taken care of. There were a couple of windows in the house without window treatments but they faced the lake and should not be covered in the first place. I will definelty stay here again. The only negitive thing I could say is it would have been great if the home was right on the lake rather then across the street but if this home was on the lake the cost would double and we could not have been able to afford the home in the first place. I am not sure if some changes were made to the house after the negitive comment but I can tell you nobody in my group noticed any problems with the house or the way it was appointed. Nice home with alot of space !!!

We recently stayed at Sounds of Michigan. This home was not as well equipped as other homes I have rented and there were many little things that could be improved upon, overall it was a great vacation with great beach access. There were no curtains on the window in the first floor bathrooms, no side tables in some of the bedroom, limited kitchen equipment and no trash cans in the bathrooms. The beach access was recently repaired and we had no issues getting across the creek to the beach. There were 11 of us and we had plenty of room everyday. The beach had a great sand bar where families played every day. We were able to bring a jetski to the beach with no problems. My elder parents were at the beach every day. We had to help them across the creek but they were able to walk across the beach rocks with no problems. All in all if there were curtains in the bathrooms I would definitely rent this house again. Waya Properties was excellent to work with when renting this home. They were very accommodating and explained the beach access to us in detail. We only had to walk 100 yard to the 11 steps to the beach. I would definately work with Ron at Waya Properties again to find a house in New Buffalo and surrounding area to rent.

Absolutely NO SOUNDS of Lake Michigan at VRBO 237491

VRBO 237491 "Sounds of Lake Michigan was FALSELY advertised as being 'handicapped accessible' - it is NOT. NO handrails for my elderly mother to even get up to front door. She couldn't go in/out through garage because of STRONG ODOR of MOLD growing on garage walls & ceiling. She had great difficulty getting from 1st floor bedroom up to 2nd floor kitchen - great room. All the mattresses in this home were cheap, hard as rocks, & did NOT even have MATTRESS PADS. Most bedrooms had NO bedside table, lamp or DRESSERS, forcing guests to place suitcases on carpet (where bugs were crawling -which was DISGUSTING) NO window shades on ANY of the windows - made guests feel uneasy with lack of privacy or security. Most vacationers want to 'sleep in' but NOT in "Sounds of Lake Michigan' because sun shone bright & early in every bedroom. Barstools were unsafe & falling apart - past renters documented this in guest book, which obviously was ignored. Past guests also complained in guest book about NO WINDOW shades & unsafe access to the 'private beach' - which was our biggest complaint: We feel that we were lied to about having access to a 'private beach' - because there is NO SAFE ACCESS down to a "private beach." The wooden stairs were rotted with a 2 foot piece missing; slippery mud at the bottom of steps, and, renters are forced to to step on sharp, jagged rocks to cross a creek, a creek which had rusty water in it. This "private beach' was 'the pits' and had 2 RUSTY METAL PIPES sticking up from it - my son cut his foot on one of them. I could not in good conscience give this property anything but an F rating, nor could I advise any other families with children, or those bringing an elderly relative to rent this home. While the owner spared no expense on the granite kitchen, gorgeous cabinets, it is NOT worth what rental agency thinks families are going to pay to rent it. When vacationers rent a vacation home with a 'private beach' they expect to be able to get down to the beach safely. Not the case with VRBO 237491.
Owner response:Please be advised that Waya Rentals is currently one of the most respected rental agencies in the New Buffalo Michigan area. We currently have several of the top vacation homes, and we pride ourselves on great customer service, and top notch rental properties. The comment above was posted by a renter that tried to get out of paying for her vacation after she stayed at the home. We do not work or negotiate with this type of person nor will we refund someone money that openly admits she had no problems with the home but was willing to post negative comments unless we gave her some money. Please be aware that people like this do exist and this make it very difficult for the rest of the world to function.
