Four friends and I just returned from a very relaxing week at La Casa Habana. We found the property to be as advertised with respect to location, size, amenities, etc. While not a new property, it was adequately-maintained and clean. Aside from occasional and unwelcome noseeums, the outdoor areas (especially the pier and the pool) were the most satisfying. While there, we saw a manatee, a shark, several barracuda, right off the end of the pier. The sunsets were beautiful! Only a short distance to Marathon and less than two-hours from Key West, this location was perfect as a home base for a wide range of activities. We chose to enjoy the nearby bike trail and during one ride were even surprised by a few very large (5-6ft) iguana! We made daily trips to the nearby Publix in Marathon and took advantage of the nice kitchen and outdoor gas grill. The house manager, John, dropped by the first day of our stay to make sure everything was in order and to give us some fishing advice. This is a very quiet, peaceful, nature-driven location. While nightlife and party seekers might disagree, I would recommend it to anyone who likes to be outside and enjoy nature.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The location was wonderful. Very quiet area. Close to grocery stores and restaurants - Island Fish Co was a favorite! Children (and adults!) loved the Dolphin Research Center. Sunday lunch at the Wreck Galley and Grill (next door to the Dolphin Research Center) was a lovely start to our week in the Keys. Blue Heaven in Key West was a superb lunch spot. The Sombrero Beach was our favorite of the beaches we visited. The home was a little smaller than we thought from the pictures but was comfortable. The property was very clean - they were still cleaning when we arrived! Though we had to put out the trash on Tuesday from the people before us! The house could use some TLC especially the bathrooms (not really first quality). Also it would have been lovely to have had a tea kettle! We loved the hot-tub and pool. Breakfast on the covered porch with its views of the Gulf were beautiful. Fishing off the dock and the kayak were much enjoyed. We had a memorable, relaxing vacation and we will be coming back to the Florida Keys!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Just returned from our stay at La casa Habana. The location was great. The home was a little smaller than we thought from the pictures but was very comfortable. The property was very clean and well maintained. The beds were excellent, very comfortable. We had all our questions answered in a timely manner. We would recommend this property to anyone. We have stayed in the area before and everything was great. Very quiet area. We would have liked lights on the dock. But, for the most part it was good.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We had a wonderful time at La Casa Habana and didn't want to leave! The house is beautiful, clean and comfortable. The caretaker is very nice and helpful. We asked him about the local grocery stores, restaurants and bait shops. We loved reading and relaxing on the screen porch. Fishing from the dock in the evening and watching the amazing sunset each night was a highlight! Make sure to bring an Ipod to plug into the portable sound system. There is enough to keep you busy at the house with the dock, kayaks, snorkels and masks, fishing rods and a pool table. There are also beach chairs so make sure you take them along for an afternoon or two at Bahia Honda State Park. Grassy Key was quiet and peaceful but close enough to Marathon and the other attractions. Key West was a nice day trip and the drive was pleasant. The Dolphin Research Center and Turtle Hospital were interesting and great attractions for families. We can't wait to return to Grassy Key and La Casa Habana!Did you find this review helpful? We had a great family get together. House was fun, loved the clear plastic kayak, used the fishing poles, caught fish right off the end of the dock, just as good as fishing off one of the bridges. Be sure to buy toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels and trash bags. The pool was terrific. In the evenings you can see nurse sharks swimming around the end of the dock as you enjoy the beautiful sunsets. We went into Key West twice and had a day at Bahia Hondo beach. We had perfect weather too!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I and four teenage children spent a wonderful, sun drenched week in this very comfortable home. Gourmet kitchen with every utensil possible makes cooking meals a pleasure. Sunset views were perfect and uninstructed. Pool and spa more than adequate for cooling off. Great use of dock for fishing and mooring a rental boat. Lanai has large table(8) to enjoy dinners together as a family over great fish tales of the daiy adventures. The beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept on, and made our vacation complete. Thanks for upgrading the bedding and ice cold ac all week. Not a single disappointment. Looking forward to a return visit within the year. Highly recommend if you are looking for privacy but luxury, just a few miles outside of marathon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Andrew. You and your family are certainly welcome back any time. We'll keep a light on for you.

We had a perfect week of fishing and relaxing at La Casa Habana - it was an excellent choice! Loved the location, gorgeous sunsets, house was immaculate, beds were super comfy and the house has any amenity that you could ever need on a vacation. Lots to do nearby, we visited the Dolphin Research Center, went up to Robbies and rented paddleboards one day, snorkeling and fishing. Never even felt the need to go to Key West. Marathon is nice and close for any grocery needs also. Food and Thought health food store up in Marathon is good for a healthy food fix. :-) This section of grassy key is a cute, very quiet little neighborhood with a nice little loop to jog or bike. We used the kayaks a bunch too! Caretaker was always available for little things like light bulbs and such but only if you need him. 10 out of 10, would definitely go back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are very honored by this and the other reviews. We know how much our guests look forward to annual vacations, and strive to deliver everything we promise-and more. Thanks for this kind and helpful review.

We rented the La Casa Habana to house some guests for our wedding held at the Villa Pamela just up the road. The house was well equipped with all the appliance one could need, comfortable sleeping arrangements and a wonderful pool and dock. I would certainly recommend this house to anyone looking for an island get-away.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Couldn't ask for more! My husband and son LOVE to fish so having their own personal pier to fish from kept them entertained between the scheduled fishing trips we had booked throughout our stay. Being able to watch them from either a beautiful screened porch or from the pool was an added plus for me! You can't go wrong with this property. The words and pictures don't do it justice.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This property was better than the pictures and words described. My husband and son LOVE to fish so having their own pier to fish from kept them entertained in between the actual fishing excursions planned for many of the days of our visit. Being able to sit on the upper floor screened in porch or be in the pool lounging while they were fishing their hearts out was an added benefit for me. My husband and I and two other couples just spent a week in this home and found it to be pretty nice. Very quiet neighborhood - residential area - so if you are looking for action look elswhere. Marathon was a five minute drive and we found many great restaurants to eat at. We enjoyed The Sunset Grill and Catch 53 the most. The pool and hot tub are small but functional and we enjoyed them everyday. The house is well stocked but could use a little organization in the kitchen area especially. It needs a deep cleaning and a few repairs. The screens in the porch are torn and patched with duct tape. Some of us were eaten alive by the noceeum bugs and people need to be forwarned about those nasty bugs.I am still itching!! By the time we tried bug spray to ward them off it was to late! There was also a funky sulfur smell by the water, that the neighbors said was caused by the buildup of "junk" and weeds at waters edge. It comes and goes I guess. We were wishing for a wind change so it would go! Overall, our experience was a positive one, but the house could use a little "tweaking". For me - it's in the details. The little things like working light bulbs and a sparkling clean kitchen would have made a better impression on all of us.Owner response: Thanks! We immediately called our cleaning crew, who same day sent us pictures of a perfectly clean and well organized kitchen. We told the maintenance crew to replace any torn screens-apparently the prior renter poked a small hole in a porch screen, but did not tell us. We would not charge a renter-screens get torn all the time down there. We replace them as soon as it is pointed out to us. No see ums are not unique to this property, or the Keys, or to Florida--they are Everywhere. We leave Skin Sensations for our guests, and ask them to bring bug spray. We are very sorry you waited to use it. We honestly did not think we needed to warn anyone about bugs in Florida. We thought the bug spray on the porch table would send the message.

When can we come back? This was the best vacation we ever had. The house has everything, all the way down to kayaks to enjoy in the waters surrounding the Casa. Fishing off the dock was fantastic, the egrets and Great Blue's came to visit every day, along with the many other colorful birds. The kitchen wants for nothing, the area of Marathon has everything you need in the way of services, while the house is tucked away on a quiet little waterfront street. Perfect!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Located on fabulous Morton Street on quiet Grassy Key, this well appointed home has everything you need to have a wonderful vacation in the Keys. We especially enjoyed watching sunsets on the screened in porch while having cocktails and sitting on the comfortable furniture. The beds are comfortable, the house is clean and well decorated with a kitchen fit for a gourmet. We fished and snorkeled right from the dock and loved the pool and spa. We'll definitely be back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Each day we enjoyed returning home. The house was perfect and well equipped. The beds were great- we never slept so well. Every evening we went to the end of the dock and watched/photographed sunsets, birds and fish. Awesome end to each day. “Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We have stayed at La Casa Habana every August for the past 8 years and absolutely love it. The house is very inviting and comfortable, the property is exquisite and the sunsets can't be beat. There is nothing to compare to whipping up an evening cocktail after a long day on the boat lobstering, going down to the end of the dock and sitting on the bench and watching the most fantastic sunsets ever! The pool is fantastic and so it the hot tub. We love this house and hope that David will have us back each and every year for a long time to come. Our family has grown up in this house and we all love coming back each year and reliving our memories. Thanks David and Aurielle! We stayed here last week. It was a beautiful and well stocked home. Enjoyed fishing off the dock. We caught many fish and ate them! It was very quiet there during our stay. Did not really see any other neighbors and that was fine with us! Also the care takers were very helpful and kind, giving us many great tips. If you stay here, you will not regret it. Be sure to have dinner at the Wreck and Grill just down the street. They have the BEST Key Lime pie!! If you are like me, and spend countless hours searching for the perfect place to spend your vacation, let me do you a favor and save you the time and energy by suggesting you book this property. My family has just returned from a week on Grassy Key, and had just a wonderful experience. The views from the kitchen, upstairs screened porch, and pool area below are so relaxing. We enjoyed fishing off the dock daily, and the sunsets were spectacular and not to be missed each evening. My kids had never kayaked before, and we enjoyed it so much that we are going to purchase a couple ourselves. We had some trouble with the wifi, and after contacting the caretakers-a computer tech came out and fixed the problem same day. Nearby charter fishing on the Marathon Lady was fun and provided lunch for the next day. We spent an afternoon/evening in Key West, which was about 1hr 15min away, and a beautiful drive all the way. One word of advice: get in your snorkeling/boating trips as soon as you can. The weather was windy the last few days, and the local snorkeling tours were cancelled because of it. But, that just gives us a reason to get back to the area as soon as we can! You will not be disappointed with this property!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved the house. It was on a quiet street and the screened in porch was just fabulous. All the beds were comfortable and all rooms were very clean. We have two small children and the house was very easy to childproof and they loved playing on the porch. We enjoyed going to Sombrero Beach and Coco Plum Beach which were not very far away. It was pretty windy for most of our visit, so it was too chilly to swim in the pool, but the hot tub was wonderful both in the day and at night.Recommended for: Families with young children

Stayed at La Casa between 11th -18th April 2009. Had a fantastic week in this superb house. This is by far the most homely and well equipped rental property we have ever stayed in. Sitting on the covered porch with a long cold drink watching the sun go down over the Gulf was just perfect! The fish and bird life viewed from the dock was amazing- rays, tarpon, turtles, heron and iguana to name but a few. Would definitely visit again.Did you find this review helpful? We just returned from having spent two terrific weeks at La Casa Habana. When we first walked in the house, I quickly realized that the photos couldn't do it justice. There is an immediate feeling that quickly invites your spirit to soar--throw down your bags, grab your swim suit and PLAY!! We played, relaxed, ate (the kitchen is great), watched TV/movies, laughed, played games, did puzzles, snorkled, kayaked, walked, rode bikes, napped (best beds!)----and that was our first day! I advise anyone considering a vacation in the Keys to look no further. Its all here, cozy and homey, clean and completely stocked with everything you need to feel at home. A great location, too. Grassy Key abounds with nature, unbothered by over-development and very peaceful. We booked our return for next year before leaving!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Relaxing, Rejuvenating, Refreshing...That is only a start. The house is beautiful and well stocked for cooking at home if desired. The hot tub perfect for our Feb weeklong vacation. The kayaking was on my bucket list. Too cold and windy to snorkle. However, the best part of this vacation home was the view off the screened in porch in the early am as the world was waking up. Utter peace. We are planning to return with our children next year! Can't waitDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Grassy Key is perfectly located. Easy to take day trips either North or South. The house was magnificent! All the amenities of home, and MORE! We really enjoyed the pool, hot tub, hammock, and screen-in porch. We especially looked forward to watching the sunsets from the dock. We hope to come back some day!Did you find this review helpful? We just spent an absolutely incredible week in Grassy Key. You cannot find a better property to spend your vacation than renting La Casa Habana on Grassy Key. The house is stunning with every upgrade imaginable. My husband and father fished nonstop from sunup to sundown on the private pier. My sister, mother-in-law, father-in law, and I loved hanging out by the pool and sitting in the hot tub! We all enjoyed snorkeling right around the pier! We saw all sorts of wildlife including tons of different types of fish, sting rays, and even a manatee swam by! We also enjoyed a nightly ritual of sitting on the pier to watch the unbelievable sunset! This was truly a vacation that I will never forget. This is our 2nd time renting La Casa Habana and I can guarantee this will not be the last time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

It's hard to believe that just last week we were basking by the gorgeous pool under the warm sun. At night soaking in the hot tub we enjoyed the brilliant starred sky. FEB. 2005 This is our third winter (Feb/March) in Florida and it has been the best. We were told that the Keys would be slow moving and dull, but we have found it to be so much fun. We liked the Sat/Sun flea market on Pine Key (rt.1 on left after Key Deer Road...mm30=too far ), we enjoyed the Dolphin Center, and we LOVE quiet Morton Street. I adore every detail of the house and the fact that you can look at the blue/green water while doing the dishes. I did my pool exercises in the nice warm pool; we sat in the hot tub with freinds and talked; we looked at the fish at night. We have enjoyed reading in the hammock, reading by the pool, reading in the hot tub, reading on the dock and Jim loved watching the History Channel on the huge TV. Restaurants: In my opinion, the Quay was below average. The Islamorada Fish Company was great with the impressive World Wide Sportsman sporting goods store next door. Also in Islamaroda, the Lazy Days (going north, on the right side after the bridge and before the sporting goods store...set back) has good food and a great view. The Cracked Conch had good fried conch on the Caesar Salad and sandwich, but stay away from the Conch Fritters/Balls-bread and rubber. In Key West, Bagatelles had THE BEST chowder. Get a bowl!! Cabot's had a nice sunset view. Castaway......friends went and liked it. The Wreck is close by, yummy and friendly, and the Blue Heron was a pleasant surprise. More restaurant info later. I took the kayak out alone (use the center for 1 person) and did just fine. Friends came later and we kayaked up and down several times. The homes you see from the water are varied, and the people, if you see any, wave. Some visitors snorkeled next door. (The reef is out near their boats.) Bahia Honda, Sombrerro Beach and Curry Hammock Beach are all worth seeing. We went back to Key West several times; friends had to see the southern most point. Park at the Old Town Parking Garage, rt 1, right on Palm, follow P signs. It's on the left. Your ticket allows you to ride the transit all day...if you want. It's a lot cheaper than the Mallory Square parking. The glass bottom boat ride out of Key Largo was great, and you get to see or ride on the boat from the African Queen film. We visited friends in Key Largo and saw huge Manatee in their marina. The Island Fish Company in Marathon was also a fun place, and we managed to have some Cuban sandwiches. There is still lots more to do and see when we come back...and we will. ThanksDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thanks so much for making this little piece of paradise available to others. We’ve returned from a PERFECT vacation at your place on Grassy Key! We were all extremely impressed with the lengths y’all go to as rental owners to make things go smoothly and a vacation even better. My father-in-law and I caught so many snapper that my hands still hurt. Kathy and her sister Connie had a great 30th birthday and all of the ladies spent a lot of time in the pool and hot tub. I’ve snorkeled in the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, and US east coast and snorkeling under the neighbors dock is VERY comparable!!! We’re already talking about another trip! Thank you VERY MUCH!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This was our first time to Grassy Key, but we have rented in the lower keys for 18 years (Big Pine). This house was absolutely fantastic. We caught more lobster in 4 days (Charley chased us out) than we have in 5 years - ALL WITHIN 1 MILE OF DOCK!. Fantastic sunsets, great pool and extra comfy beds! The best ever - and Dave & Lynn are fantastic as well. Can't wait until next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

Great house! Fantastic sunsets! Excellent fishing from the lighted dock. This was our third trip to the Grassy Key area and the best yet. We have re-booked this house for 2005. This house is everything you could want in a vacation home and more.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1
