Keywords:  A cabin/home at the top of a hill with views in both directions

Our Mountain Home, that we have named WilderNest, has the feel of a mountain cabin, but is much more than a cabin! It is filled with tasteful, comfortable furnishings. Having owned an art/home decorating gallery in Estes Park for 25 years, we have decorated the home with some of the work we showed there. Click on the Travelers Reviews at the top of this page to hear what our past guests have to say about their experience.

We provide both Broadband Internet access and WiFi.

The roomy Kitchen is fully equipped with full sized refrigerator, stove top and oven, dishwasher, almost anything you need - mixer, wok, crock pot, Foreman grill, coffee pot, toaster, blender, even a breadmaker, in addition to those items listed below.

There are two separate Living Room/Family Room areas. The Living Room with its woodburning fireplace, and the Family Room with its BlazeKing woodstove are great for those cool mountain evenings. The couch in the Living Room is new, comfortable and beautiful with pine log accents.

The Family Room with its terrazo tile floor is a cozy inviting place to relax in. A five foot beautiful stained glass window depicting a lovely mountain scene fills one of the windows. It also has a Queen-sized hide-a-bed for extra sleeping space.

The Master Bedroom has a very comfortable king sized bed with its own Bathroom. The Second Bedroom has two Twin Beds and a second Full Bath off the hall.

Kick back and enjoy a cup of coffee on the Deck, accessed from either the Living Room or the Kitchen, as you watch a gorgeous sunrise dawning over the mountains. The deer and elk often choose this time of day to amble through the yard. This is truly a place you can come and retreat from the "busyness" of the outside world.

We provide a growing collection of videos, CD's, books and games. A selection of Mountain Interest books and local information is available. We have furnished lots of extras to make your vacation comfy and safe--coolers, first aid kit, flash light, fire extinguisher, etc.

We are about five miles from downtown Estes Park so you can experience the peace and serenity that we and our neighbors enjoy but when you are ready to hit the shops, galleries, restaurants, and fun stuff you are only a few minutes drive into town.

Rocky Mountain National Park is about a 15 minutes drive to some of the greatest hiking trails, picnic areas, and scenic beauty you can imagine. The quiet starry nights are something to behold, no light pollution to block out the views of the stars.

We have gone to great effort to care for and furnish our mountain home and we want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable and enjoy it as we do. We are proud to provide a clean and SMOKE-FREE environment for our guests so our home is NO SMOKING, either inside or outside, and NO PETS are allowed.

A"part of the family" is exactly how we feel when we stay at your wonderful cabin! From our first whiff of fresh baked bread as we enter your cozy home until we lock the door as we end our visit, we have been provided every comfort! The property is quiet, the beds are great, and the house warm and inviting--all of which make a restful stay in the Colorado Rockies!! We'll see you next year- God willing --for our 4th or 5th stay!

Owner response:We so enjoy having our returning guests appreciating the experience we have created at WilderNest. Your expression of enjoyment from entering, to having to leave is what we like to hear. We look forward to hearing from you this coming season.

Mountain Vacation

Guest: The Kansans (Lenexa, KS)
Date of Stay: 07/22/11 Review Submitted: 01/10/12

Me and 2 other family members had a great time at Wildernest in July. There was everything we needed - including the wildlife! I would highly recommend this home to anyone wanting a mountain retreat. The owners were very accomodating - it's close to the Park and downtown Estes. I'd love to go back someday!

Owner response:We try to provide most everything a guest might need and then some to make a stay feel like home. Whether cooking in or eating out or bringing take out, we are set up for it. We hope you will return again.

We as, a family of 5, enjoyed our stay very much. It was great to come back to a quiet retreat after a busy day.

Owner response:Quiet is what we like when we travel also, it is such a break from otherwise hectic lives that many of us lead. We do think of WilderNest as a retreat that we enjoy sharing.

Wonderful Cabin in the Mountains

Guest: Kristine (Iowa)
Date of Stay: 06/04/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

Our family stayed at this cabin on our trip to Estes Park in June (2011). The cabin was perfect. It was so clean & very roomy. Our kids enjoyed watching the videos in the sun room. The beds were very comfy, the kitchen was fully stocked & we enjoyed having a fire in the fire place at night. There was even laundry detergent for the washer & dryer. Dennis & Sylvia were so kind & easy to work with. Sylvia even had fresh bread in the bread maker for us when we got there. The views from the deck are beautiful & we used the gas grill to cook trout that our girls caught at Trout Haven. We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who is planning a trip to Estes Park!

Owner response:June is indeed a great time to visit Estes Park and the Rockies, not quite as busy yet. The wildflowers are coming out, the evenings may be cool enough to enjoy the fire in the fireplace. Glad that you found that to be the case, Kristine. We do hope to see you back sometime in the future. Thank you.

A Wonderful Stay At Wildernest!

Guest: Bob (Clarkston, MI)
Date of Stay: 09/08/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

After many trips is which we moved frequently from place to place, my wife and I decided it was time for a vacation where we would simply plop ourselves down and just take in the local people and area. Because of our love for Colorado and the Rockies, we chose Estes Park to be our spot for a full 8 days, After doing some research of "non-hotel" lodging opportunities, we chose Wildernest to be home for our stay and we were not disappointed. Everything fit the bill for a stay that ended up exceeding our expectations. Wildernest is just a short drive to the city, yet far enough away to have all the peace and quiet we desired. We couldn't get over how quiet the neighborhood was and how enjoyably rustic and natural the home site was. We became close friends with "Rocky" the rabbit who would come out each morning and bounce around the yard as we ate our breakfast outside on the deck. (He became such a part of our stay that I now have a picture of him I keep in my home office.) On another occasion we found a mother mule deer and her two yearlings basking in the sun in the front yard, after which time "Mom" munched her way up to within 10 feet of the deck where we quietly sat having an before dinner cocktail. You don't experience the wonder and beauty of nature like this everywhere. Wildernest turned out to be just perfect for our stay as it quickly felt like home to us. We would surely seek to rent this home again if we made another trip to the EP area in the future. It had all the space and amenities we needed, the kitchen was ample-sized and well-stocked with dishes and cookware, the home was very clean with comfortable furnishings and it turned out to be just as described by the owners. We had no disappointments and the owners were terrific to work with. We had just a fabulous time in the Estes Park area and were shocked at just how integrated the Elk are into the community. They feed along the roadsides, are easily seen on the golf courses and have even wandered the streets of downtown! We were there in mid September just as the rut was starting, and we made it a nightly ritual to venture early evening into the National Park to watch their gathering in the meadows........some of nature at its finest. In summary, Estes Park is a fabulous vacation spot and a stay at Widernest will go a long way to making your experience complete. It did it for us as this turned out to be one of our very favorite vacations ever!

Owner response:What can I say? You have pretty much said it all! We love getting these kind of reviews from our guests. This makes us strive even harder to be good hosts and be sure you all are taken care of. Thank you and we hope you will return again soon.

Wildernest Review

Guest: Fred (Ohio)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

We have spent our summer vactions in Estes Park for the past 20 years. Three years ago we found the Wildernest property and have been staying there ever since. It is set in a nice quiet neighborhood close enough to town and the park to drive in a few minutes. We have seen elk, deer, coyotes, bear, badgers, beavers and bobcats in the area. So there is no shortage of wildlife. The home is furnished very well and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the pots pans and cooking utensils that anyone would need. This place is a winner and I would highly recommend it.

Owner response:It is always so gratifying to us to have our guests return again and again to the familiar and home-like setting that we want to provide. We try to furnish it with anything that we think we might need, and more, as if we were the guests. Fred and Sharon, we are so glad that you have chosen WilderNest and hope to see you again in the future.

Love this place!

Guest: The Arkys (Sherwood, Arkansas)
Date of Stay: 06/15/11 Review Submitted: 06/21/11

We had a great time here in Estes Park. The house was great, had everything we needed, and it was close to everything, yet secluded enough for privacy. The beds are very comfortable. We appreciate the no pet/no smoking policy...the house had a pleasant smell and fresh baked bread waiting for us when we arrived. The view from the porch is breathtaking and we saw a lot of cool wildlife right here in the yard, including: a badger, an elk, some baby bunnies, very pretty birds, and ground squirrels. Our 10 year old son loved exploring outside and looking for wildlife. We also have a 2 year old and the house was very kid-friendly. We appreciated the closet full of games and puzzles, which we used. There is also a great library of movies and books for both kids and adults. An all-around great place to stay...and it saved us so much money to be able to cook our own meals instead of eating out all the time. The kitchen had everything we needed. Thank you for a wonderful stay here in the Rockies. We WILL be back and I'm sure we will be staying here at the "Wildernest." LOVE IT!

Owner response:We are happy that you had an enjoyable time. We do try to make sure that our guests have what they need to be comfortable and usually check in to visit not long after arrival. Our phone conversations with you were so pleasant and we felt good about having you stay in our cabin/home. We look forward to your return.

Hate to leave this magical place. Elk watching, hiking, sight seeing and gift shopping made the week fly by all too fast. It was so wonderful to come "home" to our lovely WilderNest. Thank you for providing such a comfortable, beautiful home away from home.
