The Puko'o area of Molokai is the Bora Bora of the Hawaiian Islands and Puko'o Hale Cottage is nestled in the most pristine and tropical location in all of Puko'o. Because Molokai is the only Hawaiian island with a fringing tropical reef, the average depth to the reef (1/2 mile out) is 4 - 8 feet deep, making it an ideal swimming, snorkeling, canoeing and kid-safe beach and ocean. The cottage has two bedrooms, one indoor bath, one outdoor shower, open kitchen, dining and living area. It is ideal for a couple or a small family.

A covered deck off the living room area and master bedroom provide a quiet place to relax or dine.

The beach is a walk across the lawn, 200 yards from the Cottage.

Perfect Slice of Paradise

Guest: Jan and Harold (Maidstone, Ontario, Canada)
Date of Stay: 11/12/11 Review Submitted: 11/29/11

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful week on relaxing Molokai. The cottage was perfect and had all the amenities and more. We enjoyed the calm beach and the BBQ. Everything in the cottage was immaculate and worked perfectly. We loved the porch and the privacy of the all the palm trees. We loved the island as it is not touristic and is every friendly. We appreciated the washer and dryer and were in love with the outdoor shower--so great after a beach day. We had a great dinner at the Molokai Hotel and got great produce from the Kumu Farm. We loved the fresh beef on Wednesday at the Livestock Co-op and we really like the Cookhouse and Macadamia farm. We discovered remote, untouched beaches and lots of privacy. This was the best vacation we have had. We can't wait to go back!

We just got back from three nights on Molokai and it wasn't nearly enough. We thoroughly enjoyed the house. KB was extremely helpful before and during our visit. I would highly recommend this house for anyone visiting Molokai.

Peace and quiet on the most beautiful part of Molokai

Guest: Tony and Lisa (Oakdale, California)
Date of Stay: 10/10/10 Review Submitted: 10/15/10

My wife and I are just finishing up a week here at Hale Pukoo Cottage, and I have to tell you, it was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable weeks of my entire life--a much needed respite from our busy lives in California and four young kids! The house was everything as described and more--it is definitely high-quality workmanship and materials, all with a delightful Hawaiian flair. It could have not been more perfect, and KB was so helpful in his emails and information to us. We had a chance to tour the entire island, and this cottage is truly in the most beautiful section of the island. The beach is about 300 feet from the cottage, and it was fun to walk it each evening when the tide was out. There are no restaurants nearby, but there is a little country store just a five minute walk away, and they had wonderful smoothies and roast pork lunches. Molokai is just a small island (about 40 miles long, 10 miles wide), so driving is not bad--especially since there is so little traffic on the road--that was also a big plus. Because of the very light traffic, we were able to walk down the road and enjoy the countryside and we even found a very large heiau (an ancient Hawaiian sacred spot) during our walk. This island is appropriately called "The Friendly Isle", and we sure found out why! This is definitely one of my favorite vacation spots, and Hale Pukoo Cottage is the only place to come for one or two couples!

Owner response:It's gratifying to see guests taking deep enjoyment from their visit to the Hale Puko'o and The Cottage. I'm glad you enjoyed and hope to see you again sometime.

A Presonal Retreat on a Very Special Hawaiian Island

Guest: Hoffrong (Connecticut)
Date of Stay: 05/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/13/10

It has been over a month since we returned from Molokai.  We were grateful that we found this beautifully constructed cottage. We were greeted with the best papayas that KB personally delivered, the conveniently arranged rental car, and finally the thoughtfully extended check out time so that we could be comfortably clean before we departed for the airport. In the last month, we have constantly remembered lounging on the lanai in the mornings or late afternoons over coffee or wine while admiring the flowers and enjoying the ocean breeze. Among all the Hawaiian islands, we have found Molokai a very special place.  Largely it is because of people we met everywhere we visited.  We are certain that we will return before it is too long, and we are looking forward to staying at the cottage again.

Owner response:Well, it's a pleasure to offer the use of these houses. By some mysterious means visitors to The Cottage and to the Hale Puko'o zero in on the location that suits them well. This East End of Molokai offers special charms and delights which somehow attract people who naturally appreciate them.

If you want some quiet time...

Guest: KarraJean (Madison, WI)
Date of Stay: 02/28/10 Review Submitted: 03/30/10

My husband and I loved our time here at Hale Puko'o Cottage. It was our "tree house" for a week. The cottage is very comfortable, the perfect size for a couple or even two couples. It is very well kept and has some great features like a second floor deck surrounded by trees that spans the entire length of the house! We enjoyed long, relaxing mornings filled with reading, playing games and savoring some of the best coffee in the world! In the evenings we were able to sip a glass of wine, cook a dinner as fancy or as simple as we were in the mood for and watch a movie or sit on the deck and listen to the ocean. Do some research on Moloka'i before you decide to come. It is a beautiful island but not for those who are looking for a lot of resort/tourist type activities to fill your days with. We enjoyed our time on the island but recognized that it is not a trip that everyone would enjoy. I highly recommend renting a 4WD vehicle and exploring on some of the dirt roads that are open - like the one up into the mountains (that was a great adventure!!). There are "hidden" beaches on the west side of the island that are just amazingly beautiful and reached by a few short hikes. Also not to be missed: the road to Halawa on the east side of the island, Coffee's of Hawai'i (get the Mocha Mama - it's wonderful!!), Aloha Friday night at the restaurant at the Hotel Moloka'i, the bakery in Kaunakakai (best custard filled doughnut I have ever had!) and the Big Wind Kite factory in Maunaloa Town. ENJOY!!

Owner response:I'm glad these guests focused on the uniqueness of Molokai. It will help visitors to select the right spot for their vacation. Some people prefer to limit their island visits to an especially quiet and "non-tourist" location such as Molokai. Others enjoy a variety of experience to shape their journeys. Many people come here as a contrast to very different type of stay on Maui or Kauai and they wind up enjoying both types of experience.
