TREE HOUSE PROPERTY ---NO KA 'OI

Guest: Kel- (San Jose)
Date of Stay: 04/12/12 Review Submitted: 04/20/12

Us kamaaina's(two from San Jose and two from Fremont) really enjoyed our stay at Suni's beach front property. The upstairs unit is small, but well designed and very comfortable for the four of us. We usually stay in Wakiki's many condos and this is a thousand times mo-betta. After a morning breakfast of papaya(Kahuku brand is good), coffee, cereal or oatmeal we were off to Costco(just kidding). Guess we were fortunate for the trade winds were blowing, clouds were moving fast and the humidity was not a problem. Early mornings were spent outside on the deck watching the sun rise and the calming ocean and a few paddle boarders. We managed to use the kayaks five days and also waded in shallow water almost out to the breakers. We took the two man kayak out to surf the breakers, but it was too heavy or we were too old to paddle fast enough to catch the waves---a reminder for those of you who try it....watch the coral heads near the break and use the channels that the surfers use. We had a barbeque with a local couple we know and also Hoala(KAYAK FISHERMAN EXPERT) who rents a first floor apartment from Suni---he showed us pics of fish he had caught on various trips, which included two marlins, large ulua, etc... The couple was really impressed with the property--the girl's mom lives down the street towards Diamond Head. Suni---we'll be back, but the guys would like to alter the percentages of shopping, water sports and eating from 40/10/50 to something more reasonable. Speaking about shopping---Costco is right down the road and you can get poke', lau lau,3# poi, lomi salmon, amano kamabuko, butterfish soaked in miso, etc, etc. Suni and family are extremely nice and easy going, so if you go to Honolulu this is the place to stay-----NO $17/day PARKING!! Oh, failed to mention that we hit the local spots---Leonard's(malasadas), Sekiya's(saimin, hamburger and other goodies), Side Street Cafe(pork chops were great), Palace Saimin, and our relatives homes. Didn't make it to the Hawaiian restaurant on Kapahulu, Like Like Drive Inn(my favorite from the early 60's), Liliha bakery for cream puffs.

Owner response:Wow, what a detailed review write up. Thank you Kel. With this detailed info, my next guests or who might be interested staying here would get clear idea of the area, activities, what's available near by etc... I could never be able to explain all those detailed information that clearly. This would help my future guests for planning their vacation smoother and save their time. Watching you all enjoying your vacation made us feel like we were on vacation. We would love to have you all again!!!! ALOHA!!!!!!

Great option for vacation home

Guest: Winnie (Chicago, IL)
Date of Stay: 03/31/12 Review Submitted: 04/12/12

My mom, husband, and I spent a week at this vacation rental and it was absolutely amazing. The pictures on the website represent the house exactly as shown. We were jet lagged every day and being able to wake up to such a beautiful beach to watch the sunrise and crabs coming out of the sand is such a luxury. Having the outdoor garden, the water sports, and the beach to return home to every day was the best part about this vacation rental as many places in Oahu close early! My mom thoroughly enjoyed being able to use the kitchen to cook the local fresh food we bought. Having no air conditioner was never a problem as the ocean breeze and fans were plenty to keep the apartment cool in the morning, afternoon, and night. We did have to clean the apartment a little bit the first day we arrived. One suggestion for any guest staying would be to bring all your own bathroom amenities or go to the local Walmart as none are provided unless left behind by previous guests. I hope the guests that arrived after us enjoyed our bottled water =) Suni and her family were all extremely nice and fun to talk to. Thank you Suni and family for sharing your home with us.

Owner response:Wow, such nice reviews! I am so over whelmed with all the reviews that my guests wrote valuntarily. Such words describing of my property is just unbelievable. Thank you so much and so happy to hear that you all enjoyed staying at my property. It was our pleasure having you all here and would like to have you all visit us again soon. A/C UNITS ARE ORDERED AND WILL BE INSTALLED SOON for those who like to be chilled.

Wonderful Wedding Location

Guest: Bill G.
Date of Stay: 01/19/12 Review Submitted: 04/11/12

Great place to hold a small wedding and reception. We had 15 total people and it proved to be just right. Nice quiet backyard and beach area to just relax and hang out. Our family and guests were extemely happy with the apartment and outdoor space. Nice and clean and a wonderful hostess. Would be a great beach for small kids. No waves and shallow water for a long way out.

Owner response:It was so nice to see my guests relaxing and enjoying their vacation. Please come back again soon!

My week in paradise

Guest: Danny (Louisiana)
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/27/11

The property is exactly what you see. What you don't see is how great the family is to be around. I was staying by myself and needed a home base during my stay on the island and the property served it's purpose and would do the same if I stayed there with a family or friends, etc. The backyard is amazing and offers a tucked away privacy right on the water with your own area. My only regret is that I did not utilize it more due to time constraints and visit with Suni and her family more. The no air coniditioning concerned me going in, but after being there, it's not ideal during the day (but if you're inside and not enjoying the amazing island, you're doing something wrong) and it's cool enough in the evening with the breeze to make you need a blanket. It's not a huge place, but it is VERY VERY user friendly with easy access to the island/centrally located. God willing, this was the first of many Hawaii trips for me and I plan to utilize their place next time I find myself in Oahu if they'll have me. 2 thumbs up!

Owner response:That was nice surprize! We really didn't expect this review because we haven't had much time to get to know Danny due to his busy schedule. Definitely, in the future, when he visit us, we would love to have BBQ together and get to know him better. It was our pleasure to have guest like him, and on his next visit, we would most likely have A/C's in the rooms. We are in process of getting estimates for the free standing A/C's and installing Sun Power System on the roof to reduce electric expense:)

My son and his fiance planned their wedding at this site nd it was more than I could have imagined! The picture you see if of their wedding. The owners were fabulous - even letting us assemble the 5-tiered wedding cake in their kitchen! Son Roman was a charmer - certainly an asset and most helpful. Conveniently located and the perfect setting for romance and relaxation.

Wedding

Date of Stay: 06/22/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

I was lucky enough to find this location to hold my wedding. My family was able to stay on the property leading up to the big day and it was a wonderful occasion for all! The best part about renting the property was working with the home owner and her family. They were extremely helpful and easy to get a hold of during the entire process. She was so patient and willing to help out with any questions I had, I truly appreciate everything they did for me. The grounds were perfect for the occasion, as the private beach was a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony and the lawns were perfect for the reception. The tree house was a wonderful addition for the photos as well! Also, it was easy for the caterer and rental company to access the site and set up for the event. The guests had no problem finding the location, which is just a short drive outside of Waikiki. All in all, I could not have asked for a better location for my wedding- it was everything I had wanted. I am extremely happy with the results and know that when my family and friends come back in town to visit, they will be staying at this location. Thank you!

Owner response:I am so happy that everyone had a great time. I, myself had a wonderful time. That was the one of most beutiful wedding I have ever seen. I saw the smiles on everyone's face, Natalie and John looked absolutely beutiful and I wish them happiness forever!. I would like Natalie and John or their family/guests visit us again. Aloha, Suni

My family throughly enjoyed our stay in Hawaii. The home is fantastic. Our children (ages 14, 12 and 9) took advantage of the private beach, large yard, treehouse, and outstanding weather. Suni and the family are welcoming and allow you all the privacy you desire. The home is close enough to downtown for a short drive, but far enough to feel like you are out of the city.

Had a fantastic stay at this property. Suni and family are wonderfully accommodating and extremely friendly and personable. Loved the turtle, koi pond and the parrot. They made us feel at home. The suite had more than enough room and we had 4 adults and one child. Lots of room on the deck and yard. We didn't find an issue with not having air conditioning. There was great breezes at night and plenty of fans. We thourghly enjoyed our stay, all the basics are provided, but if you run out of items such as toilet paper, there is a store nearby. It was great how you could walk out for a least a 1/2 km and only be up to about your waist (adult) before you hit the waves. Please note that there are deep pockets (waist high) and then up to your knees, then shins. It really varied. There was no current and was generally calm. I would recommend water shoes only if you want to walk out more towards the waves. There was some interesting snokeling along the wall heading out to the bay. Suni or Ronnie could point out the channel. They are situated in a great area and everything is close by (Hanuama Bay, Pearl Harbor, lots of shopping, etc.). The free internet access was fantastic and great to have. All in all it was a fantastic place to move into for our stay. When we come back in the future we will definetely be staying there.

Owner response:It was our pleasure having them here. Like they said, we were so comfortable having them here like having a family member visiting us. We had so much fun chatting and getting to know them better. So happy to know they had a wonderful time while staying here and would love to have them here again! Great Location

Date of Stay: 03/15/11 Review Submitted: 04/07/11

We enjoyed our brief stay with Suni and family in their wonderful guest apartment. Although small, we were quite comfortable! The first evening we spent some time learning about the area from Suni while our son and nephew spent time talking and "gaming" with son, Roman. We felt totally comfortable enjoying the yard and beach while coming and going as we pleased. Suni is a treasure and made us feel like old friends coming for a visit. We rented in beautiful Makaha for the first week of our vacation but it was a long drive in traffic to many attractions. For our last two nights in Oahu, we were fortunate there happened to be a short gap between vacationers at the Hawaii Beach Front Tree House. Suni's rental is close to Diamond Head, Pearl, the airport, snorkeling, and the Swap Meet shopping at Aloha Stadium. My husband is into craft beer and we found Kona Brewing just down the road in Koko Marina--a great place for a beer and a bite (the pork tacos are delicious). Again, this rental is just east of Honolulu and is VERY convenient to everything but our google maps app continually tried to send us on the scenic route (many miles out of the way). You may want to ask Suni for the simple directions to the unit (but she was always available by phone to assist when our GPS failed us).

Our Home in Hawaii

Guest: Bruce (New Jersey)
Date of Stay: 01/08/11 Review Submitted: 01/11/11

This is our second trip here and it feels like home! This is a beautiful oasis in perfect proximity to Hawaii Kai and downtown. The private beach gives us access to all the water sports (surfing, kayaking, snorkerlling) or just sitting in the swing or chairs and enjoying the view. Inisde, all the amenities and upgrades to enjoy making a meal or just relaxing. The outside grill and patio were the perfect place to entertain friends and enjoy all that dining on your private beach can be. Most of all, the family makes you feel comfortable and as if you have known them all your life. Rather than feeling like you are a vistor or a hotel guest, you feel as though you are home with good friends. Our only hesitation in writing this review was the fear that it would not be available for our third trip here. Oh well, if you are looking for a beautiful, private Hawaiian experience, this is the spot.

Owner response:It was so nice to have them here again and hope to see them again soon! Having Bruce and family was like having family member visiting us. Aloha, Suni

The house was just as described. It was a perfect home base for us during our visit to the island. We made full use of the home's amenities including the kayaks and the boogie boards. The rental is an apartment attached to a large beach house. It is on the small side. That really didn't matter to us as we spent all our time outside. The house is new and clean and offered everything we needed.

Owner response:Thank you Patty for submiting nice review! It was nice surprise and am so glad that you and your family had a good time here at beautiful Hawaii. We hope to see you and your family again! Mahalo and Aloha! Suni

Beautiful Setting, Constant Loud Traffic Noise

Guest: Marg (Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/22/10 Review Submitted: 01/02/11

My husband and I with our 2 teenage daughters have stayed in many private rentals. This one, has a beautiful private beach and is a reasonably well equipped yet small apartment, although without a kitchen table and chairs. But what was not clear in the listing was that the property backs on to a busy and noisy 6 lane road, with the bedroom windows facing the road. If you want to sleep with the windows closed and the fans running, as the unit does not have A/C, then you can drown out the noise. We couldn't hear a movie without closing the windows.

Date of Stay: 08/23/10 Review Submitted: 09/01/10

We just spent a week at the guesthouse unit of this beautiful home, and had the most amazing time spent together as a family. This well decorated and clean 2 bed/1 bath unit was comfortable for the 6 of us (3 adults, 3 small children). The unit was thoughtfully appointed, especially for a family w/ young children (it had a pack n play for our 6 month old and even electrical socket protectors!) There is even a washer/dryer in the unit! There was no air conditioner, but we got a really nice breeze going through the unit when the windows were open (I was a little concerned about this when I read the previous reviews, but we were absolutely comfortable w/o AC during the summer). Now onto the highlight of the property...the backyard. I can't adequately describe it and do it justice...other than it was absolutely breathtaking. I wish I recorded our 5 and 3 y.o.'s reaction when they saw the backyard....they ran straight to the treehouse. Calling it a treehouse is an understatement, as it is a double decker tree fort, complete w/ a slide, staircase, trap door, sitting area and a swing on the second level, and a pond! Then the beachfront....WOW. I'm the type that usually likes to go out and eat and do stuff when we are HI, but I was just hoping that time would stand still when I was sitting in the beautifully landscaped backyard. They had nice lounging chairs on the beach, and tables and chairs in the backyard where we had most of our meals. You could always find comfortable shade to sit under even in the middle of the day. There was even an outdoor shower & hose which were so convenient to rinse down the sand & salt water after playing in the ocean. Suni (the owner) told us that they were building a deck this week w/ more lounging chairs near the toy/storage shed. Some of amazing memories we had were going crabbing & kayaking w/ the boys, since the owners also allowed us to use their water equipment. The location was great...convenient & close to town, even costco was just a few miles away. The family that owns this property were just so nice, and although they were not home much, we did enjoy chatting with them when we could. Suni manages the property and was so sweet to our kids, husband Ronnie is the executive chef of Roy's (how cool is that?!) and son Roman is a charming young man. It was nice chatting & learning about how they planned & built this dream home of theirs...we're just glad that they shared their home with us...we'll be back!

Owner response:I am so happy to hear that Pui Yee and her family had a wonderful time here at my guest house. My family and I also had very good time with them. We wish we could have a bit more free time so we could spend time together (BBQ) and get to know them better. Definitely, looking forward to see them again soon! Warmest Aloha to Pui Yee and family.

Relaxing Tropical "Tree House"

Guest: Heather (California)
Date of Stay: 07/29/10 Review Submitted: 08/17/10

This is the second time that we have stayed at the Relaxing Tropical "Tree House"...and we LOVED it. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxing and the homeowners are tremendously gracious and inviting. Yes they are home once in a while but what a treat when they are there. They are so kind and real. It is so nice to have someone around to give advise when needed on things to do and places to go. If there is anything that you need they are more then accommodating. My daughter is used to sleeping with blackout shades and the unit didn't come with them (of course). I asked Suni in for something (but not expecting anything) and "poof" here she comes with a Black duvet cover to cover the window so my daughter could take naps during the day. The guest house is an upstairs unit that has an unbelievable view of the beautiful Hawaiian ocean. The unit has a very comfortable and updated decor that calms all your stresses and makes you feel right at home. As soon as we arrived at the "Tree house" our 3 year old daughter couldn't keep her excitement contained. She ran all around the large yard, climbing the fabulous tree house, sliding down the slide, and talking to the turtle and koi fish every day. It was so relieving to be able to have my daughter just run outside as she pleased and have a blast without us having to worry "is she safe?" Oh, did I mention the private beach? Amazing and totally kid friendly. The water at the private beach was about knee to thigh height for about a mile offshore. So my daughter was loving it and so was I because I didn't have to worry about her not being a great swimmer yet. (But she did improve while we were there because she was able to practice her strokes and breathing techniques as she was more comfortable to try them with the water being at a safe level for her.) This location had everything we could possibly ask for and we did use it all...boogie boards, sand toys, surfboard, kayak, beach lounge chairs, bbq, fire pit, tiki torches and much more. We had the best time and I also loved being able to cook my own meals and use fresh herbs from the garden. It was so great to be able to see my whole family enjoy themselves in such a wonderful place. We will be back year after year as we hope to make this one of our family traditions. Many thanks to Suni, Ronnie, and Roman for sharing their paradise with us.

Owner response:It was our pleasure having Heather and her family here. They brought such uplifting joy with them to share with us and it was so nice to see the baby girl "Brooke" grew so big in one year. We aren't home much due to our busy schedule but whenever we are home, we want to make sure if our guests are enjoying their stay and if there's anything we could do to make their vacation more enjoyable. We are looking forward to have Heather and her family again next year! Having them here is like having our own family visiting us! With all our love and Aloha, Suni, Ronnie and Roman

Newly Weds 4/28/10 - 5/5/10

Guest: Will & Jenna (Torrington, Wyoming)
Date of Stay: 04/28/10 Review Submitted: 05/06/10

We came to Oahu to get married. Our marriage site was a 10 minutes away from the house and was very accessible for us. The location was absolutely beautiful. Was right off the highway and very accessible. Did take some practice to get into the driveway. When we arrived we were surprised that it was considerably smaller than what we were hoping for. However, we overlooked or misread the dimensions. Suni was very welcoming when we arrived. We were greeted with big hugs. I thought we would be provided with toilet paper, paper towels and laundry soap. We were not. Just be aware that you have to provide your own. The property was amazing. It took our breath away. One of the last days we were there we got to watch two whales playing in the distance. We got to watch parasailers, kayaking and watch the cruiseliners in the distances. The waves breaking were awesome. We loved the sunshine and having the windows open. We are addicted to the beauty of the water. The condo was spotless when we arrived, very up-to-date. Suni, Ronnie, and Roman were a delight to chat with! Thank you for your company and recommendations. Thank you for opening your home to us. Shopping for groceries was 5 minutes away. The things I missed were an alarm clock, extra hooks for hanging towels or garment bags, a phone book, and a floor lamp to help create a softer evening light indoors. Overall, we were very pleased.

Disappointed

Guest: LL506 (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 03/08/10 Review Submitted: 04/07/10

We stayed here in March with a family group of four and found it to be very crowded for our use. This property was very clean, well built, and well maintained. The owner was extremely pleasant. It was easy to locate with our GPS. Parking and turning around in the parking area was very cramped. We were quite surprised to find that although the unit is listed as a guest house, it is actually a small apartment above the attached garage of the owner's home, completely a part of their home. We did not feel comfortable using their yard since they occupy the house. We felt like intruders in their living space. Nowhere in the listing is it indicated that one must climb a long flight of stairs to reach the apartment, a significant problem for anyone with mobility issues. It was difficult to prepare meals in the unit since there was simply a cooktop and only a small countertop toaster oven. The coffeemaker had a replacement pot that didn't fit and required creative maneuvering to use. The toaster didn't pop up automatically and burned the toast. The microwave was small and old. We were invited to use the outdoor grill, but the weather was extremely windy with sporadic rain for several of our days and required trips up and down the flight of stairs. There also were no dining table and chairs or seating for more than two people to eat--at the counter--at one time. Inadequate dishes were in the unit for our use (3 cups, 1 wineglass, mismatched odds and ends of plates and bowls, etc.) Additionally, the convertible bed is simply a small folding foam mattress, suitable for a young child on the floor, perhaps. There are no dressers or chests to use for clothes, just a few shelves in the closets, so we lived out of our suitcases. The bathroom had only one small towel bar, no other hooks, racks, or shelves for hanging towels or setting needed items. There is only one TV. The unit is not air conditioned. Although this unit may have a lot to offer for some people, it did not meet our needs well.

Owner response:This is rather shoking for us since no one ever broght up this to our attention. I had this business for 2 years and this is 1st time that the guest brought it up to our attention. I have placed the dishes and among with all other necessary kitchen items to cover more than 5 guests but things do brake and nither the guests nor the cleaning lady mentioned regarding the shortage of dish and etc... We had many returing guests that we might have too much confident of this place. Our goal is to make our guests to experience the most comfortable and enjoyable stay at our guest house. We feel deeply sorry for these guests for not having their best time at our guest house. Using this case as a lesson that we will definitely seek what we could do to make the place improve. Hopefully they can come back and experience with the changes we will be making. Although we aren't much home to occupy our property due to our tight busy schedule though when we are off from our work, we would like to spend some time at our own house to enjoy the beach but also to take care of the property.

Very nice rental. The family that owned the property was very nice and made us feel very welcome. The apartment was a little small but the 4 of us made do just fine. Missed having air-conditioning. Just absolutely the prettiest backyard. Neat treehouse to set and watch the ocean. The Outback close by was the best restaurant we ate in while in Hawaii for a month.

We enjoyed our stay but there are some aspects of this property that we wished we had known and would like to post for future visitors since they are not clear in this listing. To start, the property you rent is an apartment with a lanai above the garage in one of the photos. The photos are an accurate representation of the property – however, the rental is like an apartment; the remainder of the house is occupied, by other people, with whom you share the yard, beach, etc. Consider the outside facilities like communal property in a condo, not as your private beach, because at various times of day there will be other people there. The owner was pleasant and professional. In the appropriate context, it is a beautiful property and we would stay here again.

We had a very enjoyable time at this property. The property was better than the description and the hosts very accommodating. The peacefulness, the amenities, the privacy and the security this property offers makes this a very unique vacation spot especially if you have small children. It was very nice having your own private beach where you can enjoy the sun and water. It was just a short distance to restaurants, stores, entertainment, and nice beaches for snorkeling and body surfing. We look forward to our return trip!

Aloha, Suni, Ronnie, and Roman, What a great vacation guest house/ or in my case work rental you have. There is a great Aloha spirit at your place and you take good care of me when I am away in Honolulu on Business. Your place is my 1st choice when I am on Oahu. So I will see you soon. Mahalo Jim

Owner response:Aloha Jim, It was our pleasure having you here. Thank you for your continued suport. Looking forward to see you again soon. Ronnie, Suni & Roman

Our family of 5 had a wonderful stay. We stayed the first half of our 14-day stay and had so much more fun than when we went to the conference hotel in Waikiki. Great location, friendly hosts, good value. We'd do it again that's for sure.

Owner response:It was our pleasure having them here at our guest house. This property is just too big for 3 of us my family and I, and by having them here with the fun spirits they brought with them, made the Aloha spirit go farther. We would like to have Bloomquist family visit us again in the future. Aloha, Suni, Ronnie, and Roman

This was the most relaxing vacation we have had. The property is excellent, and the owners are the most generous and wonderful people. Because the property has it own beach which is very safe for small children, we did not to go anywhere - just enjoyed staying at the beach. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing experience. Mahalo nui loa!

Owner response:What a nice time we shared with them. We felt, we had a family visiting us. Our son get to know and spend time with Dr. Ghali's grand daugher and their frendship still continues. We truly enjoyed their company and would like spend more time with them again. Aloha, Suni
