I can't say enough how great it was to do business with John and stay at Andrei for a few days. The apartment was fantastic. It was beyond well-appointed; there didn't seem to be anything missing from that apartment, it truly felt like somebody's home. It was tastefully furnished, sparkling clean, and comfy. Everything worked perfectly. The balcony was great for relaxing in the evening and having a drink while watching the late night dog walkers on the church grounds. The neighborhood was spectacular as well. Less than a five-minute walk puts you in the heart of Raday Utca, which had tons of awesome restaurants, bars, and treat shops. Just sitting outside and having dinner at the restaurants there will remain a highlight from our trip to Budapest. Then walking the short walk "home" made us really feel like a local. Sometimes the worst part of renting apartments online is dealing with the owners. John proved that not only does he take his job as an owner seriously, but he also genuinely loves Budapest and wants his renters to feel that same love when they leave his apartments. From the very beginning he answered all questions promptly and emailed to me several neighborhood and apartment "guides" that were so thorough, they could probably be published and sold as travel guides. Lonely Planet has nothing on John! Even after arrival, John called from New York to check in and make sure everything was going well. After departure, John called again to make see if we had any suggestions for improving the apartment, and we couldn't think of a single thing! John is personable, dedicated, and a pleasure to do business with. We spent several days in Andrei before moving to an upscale hotel because my wife's company paid for the hotel room for the remainder of the trip. After a day in the hotel, we were aching to get back to Andrei! We even considered ditching the free hotel room to go back to Andrei for the rest of the week, just because we missed being there so much. I highly recommend staying at Andrei and I imagine that any of John's properties would be as well-appointed, comfortable, and lovely as Andrei is. We can't wait to get back to Budapest and stay in Andrei again!

This charming apartment is absolutely everything John's description leads you to believe it will be. Re-reading the listing, I can put a check next to every item, both tangible and intangible. We fell in love with the apartment and the city almost immediately, thanks to the care John and Jeanne have taken to make sure their guests feel completely at home. After a few days, we took a side trip to Vienna. Our apartment there really underscored the "above and beyond" qualities of Andrei, since at a much higher price it did not have: the computer, the books, the power strip on US power, the kitchen fully functional for more than coffee and a piece of bread, the coffee/pastries/eggs/cheese/wine welcoming us, or an owner with a personal interest in our having a comfortable and happy stay. Our pre-arrival fears that Andrei was a little remote were erased immediately; everything is nearby, and the streets are a pleasure to stroll through. If time is an issue, public transportation is right around the corner, easy, and inexpensive. One note: the double bed is very comfortable, but we didn't care for the European-style two single duvets instead of one double duvet. I didn't mention this to John till after we were home, so that's when I found out I could have had a double duvet brought over just by asking. The only negative I can come up with is that after you stay at Andrei you will be spoiled for ordinary apartment rentals!

John, Andrei is everything and more that VRBO advertised. Your housekeeper did a wonderful job getting the apartment ready for us and your driver was waiting for us when we arrived. We found maps, directions and recommendations as well as great books and recipes. The location was fantastic. Right next to the main boulevard and on the tram line, it was also the most peaceful in its little square. Most important for us was that your apartment has the best equipped kitchen and is the most comfortable rental we have ever used. Almost anything we thought of or needed we found. You even had the unusual stuff like a knife sharpener, grater, cutting board, proper knives and decent cooking utensils. The additional thoughtful items of raincoats, spa bag, and unbrellas made it really feel like home. I also loved the posters warming the rooms, the couch throws, and even the homey plants. We had several family dinners at the house and it felt perfect!

Beautiful apartment. All the conviences right at your finger tips. Beautfully furnished; no Ikea furniture to be found anywhere. Nice location. Its away from the hustle and bustle but yet a short walking distance to the Metro. Also very close to restaurants and a wonderful bakery. The owner John was extremely helpful, and even called the day we arrived to make sure everything was in order. He also left us wine and flowers for our anniversary! Would recommend this apartment as a top notch stay!

We stayed at Apt. Andrei for 5 nights in October 2011. Communicating in advance with the owner John was very convenient. He is full of good information and very responsive to questions and providing pertinent advice. This apartment is in a convenient part of the city with easy access to public transportation, both the metro and the bus/tram. We felt safe in the neighborhood at all times of the day and night. The apartment itself is in a nice building. It has been renovated while still maintaining the charm of an older building, for example beautiful molding and doors and some antique furniture blended with a modern kitchen and dining area. The kitchen offered a nicely stocked small refrigerator with items such as milk, eggs, cheese, lunchmeat, etc; a Nespresso machine with plenty of coffee “shots”; several plates of fresh pastries; a wonderful bottle of good wine. There was a washer and dryer, which was a huge help as well as a money and time saver. John provided a bathing bag, which made going to the baths so easy (we went to Szechenyi). We were a family of four, two parents and two adult children. The apartment has one bedroom and the living area has a very comfortable leather couch that folds into a queen bed. Although we didn’t use it often, there is a large flat screen TV and a nice assortment of DVD’s. Also provided is a cell phone, a computer, and power strip that could charge multiple US electronic items. Budapest is a wonderful city, and we could not have picked a better place to stay than Apartment Andrei. It truly feels like a “home away from home”.

This apartment made our first visit to Budapest a very special one. Located in a quiet street in front of a church, this apartment building is historic and elegant but inside was with modern facility including wifi, flat screen TV, washer/dryer, nice shower room, and modern kitchen with wonderful coffee maker. We felt at home immediately. What made our stay special was Rader Street and the owner's city guide. We found on Rader Street many great restaurants and cafes. We also loved the neighbor bakery's traditional cakes right around the corner from the apartment. The restaurant guide was fun and we enjoyed some of the best restaurants in the city thanks to it. We fell in love with Budapest and would love to go back and stay in Andrei.

My wife and I wanted to enjoy Budapest as part of the local scene. Apartment Andrei made that happen for us and gave us great memories. The Apartment is located in a great neighborhood, with one of the best pastry bakeries in Budapest down the street, is adjacent to a street full of wonderful cafes, and is located across from a park with an old church as it's centerpiece. We had a group of 16 over who were going on a river cruise with us for a Bon Voyage party and the living room and dining room handled this group with ease. The proximity to the Main Market made shopping for the snacks an adventure in it's own right. The apartment has excellent features including a great bathroom complete with a showers that is relief after staying with so many small ones where you felt like you were in a closet. The LAN computer, free international phone, (also workd for local calls) was a great help in coordinating our get together and checking in with the family at home. The owners guide to Budapest is a guide book in itself. His tips and suggesting for dinning were excellent and we passed them along to our whole group. He called to check on our stay and was most helpful. The apartment was well stocked with essentials for our arrival and you had the feeling that He really wanted us to have a enjoyable stay. Getting to the apartment was a snap using the driver recommended and he became our transportation coordinator arranging for cabs at different times to take our guests home at night. We mostly used the subway for our visits and tours of the city and the nearby station was close, the trains convenient and easy to use with fast service. This rental turned out to be one of the best VRBO rentals we have had over several years and we would highly recommend staying here to anyone wishing to enjoy Budapest as a local.

We stayed at apt Andrei with our 10 year old daughter. It was set up great for a family, fully equipped in every aspect, all needs anticipated, minutes to cafes, grocery shopping, boutiques, transit, museums - there were no drawbacks. Driver was arranged with apt owner so no searching for a cab at the airport, property manager greeted us at the apt, explained the amenities, even stocked the kitchen with fresh pastries, a bottle of wine and noshes. The computer access provided is a brilliant amenity - never had this at any other rental. Dvds, music, books, and antique accents made the apt feel like a home. The best thought out and most useful item that came with this rental was the huge pdf file provided by John that was better than any travel book I'd read from the library, pre-arrival. Anything I needed to know was contained within -from grocs to wine to great hidden gems of places to eat, drink, and people watch. We spent much time on the balcony with morning coffee and evening wine, watching people come home from work, taking their dogs for a run in the churchyard across the way or their little ones for before dinner playtime. If you rent this apt - go and go often to the Cafe If on Raday utca. The owners refer to it as a favourite spot - it was ours the week we spent at apt Andrei. We plan to return to Budapest, we will rent apt andrei again if we go and would tell family or friends to rent this or anything else the Faragos have on offer - they are superb hosts.

As I have read in a previous review, I could rave about Apartment Andrei for pages. My husband and I are in Budapest for 2 months and have rented Andrei for the entire period so we really have a feel for what a great apartment and location it is. We love being a couple of blocks from the Danube. The apartment itself is very large with high ceilings and every home comfort you could ask for – heating, air conditioning, laundry, coffee maker, full kitchen, washer/dryer, satellite tv, dvd player with dvds, an excellent wifi connection and a computer if you don’t have your own. The owner, John, has written easy-to-follow directions for absolutely everything. He has also written up many suggestions for local food and entertainment. The neighbourhood is within the bounds of the inner city but differs from staying right in the center. In District IX, you feel you are more of a part of the real Budapest with locals, tourists and ex-pats around. It is easy to get by with English or German at the many restaurants close by but there are also grocery stores and shops where you can have the fun of trying to communicate with people who only know a few words of English. We very much enjoy being out walking with locals who are going to work or doing their shopping instead of just ending up in a crowd of tourists fresh off their boat or bus. Raday utca is only metres away and is full of restaurants and bars to suit all prices ranges – from cheap to Hungary’s first Michelin-starred restaurant, Costes. Our current favourite is a jazz café around the corner open from 8 am until late where you can go for anything from breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner or live music. You can comfortably walk to the north end of the inner city in only half an hour but the heart of the city can be reached in 15 minutes. There is also easy access to trams, buses and trains to take you anywhere you want to go in the inner or outer city, on either the Buda or Pest side of the river. You simply couldn’t have a better contact person than John to make your stay in Budapest perfect.

This apartment exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed everything about the unit. It has a large living room with TV, full kitchen, dining area, good size bedroom and bathroom, and a balcony with a great view of an old church. It was very clean and had been recently remodeled, so everything was in very good condition. The location was perfect for walking to all the nice restaurants and shops in the main district. The Danube was within walking distance as well. The apartment had several maps and guides to Budapest, including a short guide written by the apartment owners that described some of their favorite restaurants and shops. If we go back to Budapest we will definitely rent this apartment again.

My daughter and I stayed at Apartment Andrei in early July 2010. I was stunned by the apartment when I first walked in. The high ceilings, the decor, the amenities that John has included, were all absolutely first-rate. The attention to detail was fantastic. John strives to make the place seem just like home, and he succeeds admirably. I cannot recommend John and this apartment more highly. In fact, my sister and her husband are considering a trip to Budapest and I've told them they HAVE to stay in one of John's apartments! It was extremely hot during our stay, so we made full use of the portable air conditioner. It lacks the capacity to chill the entire apartment the way a central AC system can, but it certainly made our stay much more comfortable. John has also thoughtfully included a large floor fan, and between that and the AC we were perfectly comfortable temperature-wise. This apartment is a bit off the beaten track, and older tourists might prefer to stay closer to the major attractions. Even so, we walked to most places, taking the subway or trams occasionally on particularly hot days. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance (John describes them all in the guides he's written and leaves in the apartment). The food and wine in Budapest were excellent, some of the best I've had anywhere. In short, this was the best home-away-from-home I've ever seen, for a price comparable to or less than staying at a hotel. I wish all my trips could be this good! Thank you John!

I rented two apartments in Budapest from the incredibly helpful and detail-oriented owner, John Farago. He so graciously helped us in every step of the way. We were two adults and four 20-somethings. From the beginning I could tell that this would be a deluxe top of the line apartment rental experience. I have rented many apartments, in the US and in Europe, and I have never had such a feeling of excellence in all aspects of the process. Nor has a host ever imparted such a love of a city (Budapest) and its people with quite obvious joy and wonder. John offered several combinations of apartments that might work for us. I am so glad we took one of his suggestions--my husband and I would take (the very spacious) Andrei, and the four kids could all fit into the smaller but oh so lovely Olive. This was the best of everything. We also went with John's recommendation to have his driver pick us up, a great idea. I agree with all the other 5 star recommendations here. From the minute you arrive in one of the apartments, there is such welcoming and comfort. Wine, cheese, snacks, eggs, butter, coffee! Andrei--it is not in the main part of town, which I really liked. Still very much in town, though. Right near the Danube, across the river is the Gellert Spa and the cool hill to climb. Andrei is close to the metro, short walk to the awesome Central Market (one bridge length away). It took us about 15 minutes to walk into the main part of Budapest, where Olive is. Lovely walk. Always different and always something new to see. Great little stores around to pick up last minute milk, wine cheese, ajvar! Right out the windows of Andrei, sitting on the long balcony, you see the church, all lit up at night. So beautiful. We did not sleep in the bedroom as there are no windows there, we slept in the spacious living room with the lovely, comfy fold out couch. I had all the windows open. It was quiet at night. Andrei has a huge living room, dining room and TV area all in one. We never watched the TV or the movies, but the kids in Olive did and were very happy with the choices. I loved the bathroom and the shower--hot water, clean, light, roomy. John even has extra contact lens soln. available in the vanity! Along with little packets of shampoo, shaving cream, etc. I cannot imagine returning to Budapest and NOT staying in one of John's apartments. I would change my dates to accommodate the schedule if need be.

A friend and I stayed in Apartment Andrei in early June 2010 and absolutely loved staying there. The apartment block is old and filled with character on the outside, with statuary on the balcony but modern and tastefully furnished inside. Excellence lies in attention to detail, and this owner has certainly thought about the details: the apartment has internet, a flat screen tv, dvd (not that we had time to use it!!), washing machine, tumble dryer, Nespresso machine (with Nespresso supplied), dishwasher... There are two toilets (although only one shower, which is off the main bedroom.) There is one bedroom with a double bed and a sleeper couch in the lounge. Sleeper couches are not always the most comfortable but this one felt as comfortable as my own bed!!! The apartment overlooks a square with a picturesque church, and is just off Raday Street, which is a pedestrianised street filled with cafes and restaurants. Public transport is close by but we hardly used it as everything is in walking distance provided you are a good walker. I really can't fault this accommodation- or the owner, who is very helpful. In sum, we really enjoyed this accommodation- it felt like coming home when we eventually got in at night.

I stayed in Andrei for 4 nights and loved every minute of my stay there. The condo exceeded my expectations! It was better then any of the 5 star hotels I stayed in over the years, just like living at home. I'm so glad I had the privilege to stay there. The location and condo amenities were extremely well documented. The supervisor, Ilona, met me the day I arrived and gave me a tour of the unit, answering all of my questions. The taxi driver who met me at the airport, Alajos, was very friendly and experienced. He took me on a marvelous tour of the city, and next day he took my to some of the tourist attractions outside Budapest. On my last day, he took me to some of the spots I missed, and then dropped me off at my cruise ship. My total experience was just wonderful. I would highly recommend this condo and the people who are connected with it. Thanks for making my trip to Budapest so special.
Owner response:Most often wonderful experiences in vacation rentals are the result of simply having wonderful guests and that surely is the case here. Ken was so courteous and courtly to our staff and all those he met that he left a warm glow wherever he went. I comment here, though, simply to add that while we recommend (strongly) Alajos based on our own experience, he is not a member of our staff and he neither works for us nor pays us a commission on these referrals. He is, simply, the driver we have come to use ourselves in Budapest because of his reliability and skill. We share Ken's enthusiasm for his good work. Whether or not you stay with us, you may well want to consider booking with Alajos for airport pickup and other distance driving. Simply googling for 'Alajos Budapest taxi' should get you to more detailed information if you are so inclined.

Apartment Andrei is an elegant traditional Hungarian apartment, completely renovated to meet contemporary needs. All apartments by this owner are exactly as represented. The quality and service exceeds most travelers expectations - English speaking staff are prompt and available to meet / greet you, and problem solve if necessary during your stay. The apartment amenities ensure a comfortable visit from a washer /dryer, full movie / guide book library, flat screen TV, MP3 docking station and a desktop computer with printer. The beauty and charm of the apartment match the neighborhood. Within easy walking distance to chic restaurants and shopping, you are immersed in Budapest life. Public transportation (tram/metro) are a block away. The owner provides comprehensive guides on life and travel in Budapest, along with answering any questions you may have about emergencies, currency etc. You feel safe, secure and invigorated and confident to embark on your Budapest adventures.

We would highly recommend apartment Andrei. Foremost is the service from John and his team making travel to a very foreign location seamless, even when we missed our train and were a few hours behind arrival time. Although the apartment is away from the tourist center, tram/metro/bus transportation was easy to use and convenient (make sure you get a pass since checked all the time). The location was very quiet and the church across the street was scenic and a reflection of the local daily life. The apartment is beautiful and equipped with EVERYTHING you would need including tour books, games, electronics, extra toiletries, modern appliances, and a relaxing balcony to enjoy after a long day of sightseeing. Go to Budapest, enjoy this evolving city, and stay at apartment Andrei or one of John's apartments.

I had the pleasure of staying at this property while spring was blooming in Budapest! The location of the apartment was wonderful with a great view of the church square from the balcony. The apartment was also very close to the cafe district and other convenient shops. Getting around the city was also a breeze, since the apartment is located within one block of a major tram stop. The apartment included everything we needed! A very easy-to-use washer and dryer, refrigerator, freezer, and even an espresso machine were at our disposal in the apartment. The addition of American power outlets and a complementary cell phone also were extremely helpful. I highly suggest renting this apartment! It made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable!

The apartment Andrei impresses the guest both with its location and with the amenities provided. Situated next to a beautiful church and with easy access to the tram and cafes, the apartment balances being centrally located but not loud at night. The apartment came equipped with everything imaginable: espresso machine, movies, glasses repair kit, mobile phone and much more. John (the owner) was extremely helpful and provides his own phone number as well as those of his friends in case you need help, a personal touch that I have not seen elsewhere. Everything exceeded my expectations, I really cannot name anything that I didn't like. I whole-heartedly recommend this apartment.

Whilst the location was a little out of the main city it was certainly a quite neighbourhood and really only a 10 minute walk up town. The attention to detail by the owner even providing us with sufficient coffee for the Nespresso machine and a few bottles of local wine. We also had three couples who shared the same owner's other apartments and we each visited their apartments for either dinner or brunch. They were also suitably impressed with the facilities provided which included latest CD's and DVD's

My stay at Apartment Andrei could not have been more pleasurable! The recently renovated apartment is very spacious. John and his team have thought of everything. There are guide books in the apartment, a docking station for your IPOD and internet with a VoIP line. Being able to the call the United States and check in with family was an added bonus. In addition, a cell phone is provided to use while in Budapest. As a single traveler, the apartment had more than enough space. It is spacious enough for a couple or family to stay there. The sofa in the living room can be converted to a bed. There is a long narrow balcony that overlooks the church. It is very relaxing to sit on the balcony at night with a glass of wine. I was also very pleased with the location of the apartment. It is steps away from Raday utca where I enjoyed many of the cafes and restaurants. After a day of sightseeing, it was nice to stop for a drink on my way back to the apartment. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Kalvin Ter metro stop and about a 20 minute walk to Deak Ter. The Central Market is very close. My experience with John Farago and his team was nothing but positive. Making the reservation was simple. He arranged for airport pickup and he answered my many questions on email before the trip. John even mailed a Budapest book to my home in Atlanta. Before my stay, my expectations for Apartment Andrei were very high and the apartment exceeded them. When I return to Budapest, I will most definitely stay at Apartment Andrei again.

Apt Andrei exceeded our expectations. Right from our arrival the service we received from BVR was stellar. Our arrival was smooth and easy with our scheduled pick up from the airport. Upon arrival at Apt Andrei we were welcomed by Ilona who gave us an apt tour, review of the services available to us and even brought freshly baked pastries! Once unpacked my husband and I truly felt like we were at home, which is a great feeling as we had previously lived in Budapest and made our holiday feel extremely comfortable. Kudos to John for the small details. For example, the library of DVDs for a rainy day, the books on the night stand for bedtime red, the umbrella on the coat rack - these details were noticed and certainly appreciated. In addition to the service was the amazingly decor of the apartment. Modern yet mixed with antiques the apartment was well-balanced for an urban couple who enjoy to travel in style. Lastly, the location of Apt Andrei is fantastic! Literally steps away from Raday utca (fabulous pedestrian street loaded with fantastic restaurants) and a short walk from Kalvin Ter and the wonderful Central Market, Apt Andrei offers great opportunities for fun and exploring within steps of its door. Given our experience we highly recommend Apt Andrei and will certainly see about booking with BVR in the future

My husband and I stayed at Apartment Andrei after a cruise. We eat all of our meals at the apartment (due to my husband's allergies. John thinks of every thing. You need only to bring your self and your clothes. He even provides contact eye solution. The apartment is very modern and very comfortable. It is just off the street Raday, which if you look at travel guides is the new up coming street in Budapest, especially for the locals. There is a lot of tourist in the restaurants along this street. I did stop each night to have a local beer and watch the activity. This apartment is within walking distance of most attractions but I would suggest that you take the public transportation. It keeps you from getting too tired. The apartment is very near the Grand Market which is just off to the left of Raday street. This appears to be the best place to get souvenirs price wise. They also have a great place to get food on the second floor. You will run into locals getting lunch but again many tourist. The apartment is across the street from an local church which has a monument in memory of the heroes of the 1956 revolution . I would suggest a trip to the cemetery which also has a monument to these brave people and also is the resting place of many famous Hungarians . I would also suggest a trip to the church in the cave. I enjoyed the hospital in the cave but I am a nurse. I would suggest the 1/2 hour tour. I did the hour tour and enjoyed it but it is twice as much. Back to the apartment. The other apartments in the building are owner occupied so the apartment is quiet. A few times when I had difficulty with the door one of residence came out to help me. One did not speak any English but we were able to communicate just fine. As you can tell I loved my time in Budapest and especially in the apartment. Due to my husband's allergies we always stay in apartments when we travel and this apartment was by far the best and the only one I would

We stayed in this gorgeous apt. in Aug. 2009 and loved every minute of it. We felt it was a home away from home. We spent so much time chatting with the owner that we feel like family. Everything you could ask for and more was in the apt. even food when we arrived late at night which was most appreciated. We would highly recommend this apt. in fact would love to go back again ourselves. Velda
