Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

Kelly and Ed Gilligan have owned this lovely cottage on Keuka Lake since 2005. The exterior and interior of this home has been completely renovated and you will find subtle hints throughout reminding you of what your vacation is all about - relaxing and having fun! Why the Owner Chose Barrington

In 2009, the Finger Lakes region was named the number one lakeside retreat in the world by the editors of Shermans Travel, beating out better known resort areas such as Lago di Como (Italy), Lake Mead (USA) and Lake Como (USA.) The editors also cited Keuka and Seneca Lakes as being “widely-regarded as the most beautiful of the Finger Lakes and well equipped for tourists and recreational activities.”

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage

Here are our top 10 things that we enjoy doing when we visit Keuka Lake. 1. Rent a boat or take a boat ride to the Switzerland Inn to have lunch on the porch and enjoy the great view of the Bluff! 2. Boat down to Hammondsport. Dock the boat and head into town for some shopping and an ice cream at the Park Inn! 3. Drive just north of Penn Yan on Sunday morning at 9:30 and watch all the horse-drawn Mennonite buggies going to church. 4. Have a wonderful dinner at the Village Tavern in Hammondsport. 5. Visit the many fine wineries on Keuka lake and take in the stunning views! 6. Have a cocktail on the patio at sunset at the Esperanza Mansion. 7. Go shopping in Penn Yan. Our favorite store is Longs Cards & Books. 8. Go to the Hayes Auction Barn for the weekly Saturday night auction at 6:00pm. Great finds include beautiful antiques to everything under the kitchen sink! 9. Order the fried chicken dinner at the Seneca Farms in Penn Yan. 10. Have a bottle of wine in the middle of the lake at sunset! 11. Ok, so there are more than 10… Visit the Windmill Farm and Craft Market on Saturday mornings. A great place to get breakfast or lunch!

This was the first time we rented a cottage-what a wonderful time! The cottage is wonderful and decorated beautifully. It was nice to have two decks too. Loved the kayacking for the first time! Overall, a relaxing, enjoyable time and we'll do it again! Thank You!

What a fantastic week! Everything in the cottage was great...couldn't have asked for anything more. The gift basket was appreciated. Hope we can arrange to come back again. Took our grandgirl to play miniature golf & get ice cream, swam every day. Then when everyone else left we toured the wine trail. You are the perfect hosts!

We had a wonderful vacation! Loved, loved, loved breakfast, lunch and dinner on the wide porch overlooking the lake. The kids were delighted with their sky high loft. We loved swimming, camp-firing, reading and relaxing with good books. Happy Hours with Finger Lakes wines to boot. Clean, bright, and welcoming. We will be back! It Shore Was Nice. Thanks so much!

We loved our stay on Keuka Lake! We found wonderful things to do within a short drive of the cottage, and filled our time at the cottage with fun as well. My kids had a ball wading into the lake at the rock beach and hanging out on the dock spying fish in the clear water. I had a good time sampling some Finger Lakes wines, and my husband decided that he enjoys fishing more than he had thought. The cottage is well appointed, with a great kitchen, beautiful views, and nicely separated spaces for the kids and adults. We hope to come again. Amy S. Maryland

Dear Kelly and Ed, We just returned home from our week at your rental cottage. It was beautiful there, inside and out, and you really thought of everything we could possibly need- from the lemon squeezer and ice cream scoop to the life vests and first aid kit. You could write the book. We also enjoyed the white binder with helpful and interesting information. The kids had a great time jumping off the dock, fishing and kayaking. They liked sleeping in the loft and roasting marshmallows over the bonfire. Thanks for the welcome basket and all of your thoughtfulness in setting up the cottage. Hope you are enjoying your summer. Sincerely, Anne Anne New York

Hi! We had a great time. All of your recommendations were perfect. The kids loved Watkins Glen State Park and I think that Longs has one of the nicest selections of children's books I have ever seen. Thank again for everything! Polly and Craig P Chagrin Falls, Ohio

We arrived to a meticulously clean house and were pleasantly surprised to find a basket of goodies waiting for us including a bottle of local wine, specialty spices and coffee. The house was well equipped with all the comforts of home (especially the kitchen). Our family of 5 had plenty of room and enjoyed our stay immensely. Kayaks and a sunfish sailboat were available for use which the kids, mom and dad put to good use. From a quiet cup of morning coffee to watching the sunset the multi-level covered porches provided a crows view of the beautiful lake – "It sure was Nice”. What a lovely setting! I highly recommend “It Shore is Nice”!! Jim & Ali NY

Dear Kelly, What a wonderful week we had on Keuka Lake. The cottage was perfect for our family, places to be together and places for solitude, beautifully decorated, comfortable, and included extras that made the week fun for the younger set as well as the older (me). The kids loved kayaking, we used the sunfish after refreshing our skills using the instruction booklet, and fished off the end of the dock. Swimming, campfires, samoras rounded out the days. The cottage provided everything we needed. Fortunately, the weather was mostly cooperative and we hated to leave. Coming home to Penn Yan was nostalgic. As a teenager I worked at Senaca Farms and Longs was in its infancy. Some things had changed, others not at all. I was able to attend my high school reunion on Saturday night where I briefly relived my earlier life among 18 year olds. It Shore is Nice is at the top of our list for 2010 vacation plans. Will you let us know when you open your calendar? You are so wonderfully organized and thoughtful for guest planning. Do you do this professionally in some other part of your life? Many, many thanks. Nancy W. Shoreham, NY
