Now, there are cattle, sheep, and pigs in summer and fall, migrating geese in winter, and chickens, goats, deer, eagles, and osprey year round.
GREAT FOR WEEKEND GETAWAYS, YET KID-FRIENDLY, TOO! It is ideal for family vacations, romantic weekends, country getaways with friends, women's retreats, a tranquil retreat for writers, artists, and photographers, a delightful setting for family reunions, or for history buffs and wildlife, kayaking, bicycling, and fishing enthusiasts.
IT IS A BEAUTIFUL DRIVE along the Columbia River to Puget Island. We are just off Highway 4, about 30 minutes west of Longview, Washington. Long Beach, the Pacific Coast, Seaside, and Astoria, Oregon are each about an hour's drive to the west. Skamokawa, gateway to the Lower Columbia Estuary, is only 20 minutes west of here.
THERE IS LOTS TO SEE AND DO ALONG THE LEWIS AND CLARK TRAIL.
The range of activities in the Pacific Northwest and Washington state is limited only by your imagination. Explore the campsites of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, take walks or bicycle along 27 miles of island roads or on the Bradley mountain bike trail off Beaver Creek Road, visit the Julia Butler Hansen House and other historical museums, towns, and churches, have a picnic at Skamokawa Vista Park, go antiqueing, drive through a wildlife refuge or the Gray's River Covered Bridge, go golfing, go fishing, take day trips to Fort Clatsop, the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Mount Saint Helens, or the Olympic National Forest, travel miles of country roads, hop the last ferry on the Lower Columbia to Oregon, purchase fresh/smoked salmon and locally grown goodies at the Farmer's Market, there is nothing to compare with kayaking or canoeing in the Lower Columbia Estuary near Skamokawa, or look up on a clear night and see the Milky Way and thousands of stars you never saw before.
WHATEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO, YOU WILL BE CREATING MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME OR AT LEAST UNTIL YOUR NEXT VISIT! |
