We've enjoyed a lot this great house. The place for us was unbeatable, less than 5 minutes by car to the Lava flow parking or the Kapalana black sand beach. Really close also to the Volcanoes National Park. The house has all that you needs. A very complete kitchen, a very huge dinning room and two excellent rooms. We enjoyed also the lanai. If we return some day to Big Island we return to this house.

Heavenly Stay in Paradise!
Heavenly Stay in Paradise!
This charming home was the crown jewel of our vacation rentals. It was ROOMY, CLEAN, and the views were unreal. Great proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes NP, and yet it was wonderfully dark and quiet at night. THE STARS WILL BLOW YOU AWAY!! Loved hearing the frogs at night, and when it rained--ahhhh, heavenly. LOVED the little geckos that visited us every day, inside and out!! Get the fans going early, since it does get warm inside, but it cools off nicely after awhile. GREAT kitchen, convenient washer/dryer, comfortable bed--we can't say enough about this place. The owner was wonderfully attentive and helpful and helped us to extend our stay one more day. EVERYTHING about this place is fantastic. We have already recommended it to friends, and will continue to do so. MAHALO for helping us to have a SUPERB time!!

My heavenly holiday
My heavenly holiday
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my 2 week stay. The house is clean and bright. The windows open to allow the breezes in without needing to use fans or air conditioning. The kitchen is well equipped. I appreciated the quiet and hearing the birds singing with the sound of ocean waves in the background. An exciting and decidedly unusual bonus for me was being able to see the fire and steam of the lava flow going down the volcano at night from the comfort of the front veranda. Close but not too close! From the house you can walk to a fun musical evening market on Wednesday nights. There is a restaurant nearby. 10 minute walk to the beach but not to swim there. The view is beautiful. Easy walking over the lava flows. There is a close by tour one can take that is really an experience. I swam with dolphins, that were free and wild, saw whales, turtles flowers everywhere. I highly recommend this stay. A car is needed to have the full benefit of all that is there to offer.

We stayed 4 nights and the home was wonderful. It was located in a beautiful area, not far from many scenic areas. The owners and manager were wonderful to work with, as well. The home was comfortable and clean. The only drawback was there is no phone and we had to go to the next town (~10 miles) for our T-mobile cell phone to work. That being said we would still stay here again, because it was so lovely.

We enjoyed our short stay at this very pleasant home - just perfect for the three of us. The house is clean and spacious, and we enjoyed the lanai and being able to use the grill. Was a great location to enjoy the surrounding area, away from the crowds of Kona, with good access to Pohoa (9 miles) and Hilo. We especially enjoyed visiting Volcano National Park and the Kapaho Tidal Pools (great snorkeling). Our stay was just too short...

great to get away (from it all)
great to get away (from it all)
The house was beautiful, clean and peaceful. Our family of five spent two nights there after a week and a half in Waikiki. This property provides access to a different Hawaiin experience - far removed from the bussle of Honoulu. It was certainly a great place to relax. It is near enough to Volcano National Park that we were able to arrive at the park within an hour or so and within walking distance of a truely awesome lava flow from several years back. Like many of the other reviewers we had one good night to watch the active lava flow from the meditation room. Highly recommend this property - if quiet it what you are looking for. But plan to drive to most everything.

Our family of five had a wonderful stay at your beautiful house! It was nicely furnished, neat, clean and included everything needed like towels and toys for the beach. We loved watching the lava flow and stars on peaceful nights. The only issue was the limited internet access. The delicious fruit basket was very thoughtful.

Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review. We appreciate feedback from our guests as we strive to provide the most enjoyable vacation experience for people as possible. We are often told that the view of Kilauea and the lava from the house is the best that guests have seen anywhere on the island. We offer reliable high speed internet access for laptops ( up to 5 users at once). Guests have unlimited access to e-mails and web browsing ( including Facebook). We do ask that guests limit their use of downloading (ie movies and music) and streaming (ie movies, music and chat lines) as these use up megabytes quickly and can result in an additional cost for us. We thank guests for their cooperation with this and hope that the satellite T.V with over 100 channels to choose from, including music compensates for our request. Should guests feel they need the extra internet use we can work something out for a small fee. Glad you enjoyed the delicious fruit and stars in Hawaii!
Not enough time to see everything.
Not enough time to see everything.
After spending a week on Waikiki for business meetings, Hale Ka Ikena Nani provided a quiet, relaxing place to get away from it all! The fruit basket and beautiful flowers enhanced our arrival. The home is located in a perfect area to see all the sights on the Hilo side. The home was clean and had everything we needed. Snorkeling gear, plenty of towels, a well-equipped kitchen as well as the little extras we didn't think about particularly, Hydrogen Peroxide to clean out our snorkeling wounds. You should be aware that the morning sun comes into the living room very early. So if you are planning on using it as a sleeping area, you should bring a sleep mask. The Hilo side of the island is spectacular, and feels unique due to its continuing formation and isolation from a lot of tourists. We were treated to spectacular double rainbows, night skies full of stars, full moon, and the spectacular lava flow. On June 5th we got to experience The Venus Transit at the Mauna Kea Summit. We loved driving around the area and experiencing all the aspects of lava. It’s not easy walking around the shores but it is definitely worth the effort. We would love to go back because I know we missed a lot. We appreciate your generosity in sharing your paradise with us.

Hawaiian Home Away From Home
Hawaiian Home Away From Home
This is our second time in 6 months to the Big Island and this time we wanted to spend our time near Pele's front door. We spent a week in this home and it exceeded our expectations. With a family of four (two teenagers), this home provided us with plenty of individual as well as group space. One of the girls stayed in the meditation room during our trip. We took a trip into Hilo the first morning we were there and bought breakfast and lunch items for our stay at the Hilo Farmers Market and Walmart. Having a fully stocked kitchen, stove, refrigerator and every kitchen appliance we needed was a blessing! We were even able to have fresh tropical fruit smoothies every morning because we had a blender. Kaimu Black Sand beach is less than a 5 minute drive away, then a quick hike out to the beach. Its a serene beach to watch the sunrise, hear the waves crash on the shore and enjoy the Pacific. There's a convience store across the way, Uncle Roberts Kava bar and a walk-up cafe. We went to Uncle Roberts on a Wednesday night and they had a live band playing Hawaiian music that we all four enjoyed. At night, we listened to coqui frogs chirp, the waves crashing on the beach, the breeze blow through the open windows and were lured to sleep. We spent time visiting various parts of the island such as Waipio Valley, Captain Cook, Volcano, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Every evening we looked forward to "heading home" and settling in. Tracey has been a pleasure communicating with. We look forward to staying again. Mahalo!

We stayed here on our first ever trip to Hawaii, and thus didn't really know what to expect, but were looking for a quiet getaway to avoid the crowds. The house is lovely, if rather simply furnished, and we really enjoyed the large charcoal grill on the back lanai, as well as the yoga room, which was great both as a yoga space and a landing from which to view the glow of lava flows at night. The owners provided beach towels, grass mats, and snorkels (no fins), which we greatly appreciated. When the windows are open and the breeze cools the house it is really nice. The local wildlife (and domesticated life – dogs and roosters too!) make an island symphony which lulls you to sleep. It was a little remote for us first-timers though, and we found we spent a lot of time in the car in order to explore the whole island. But on the other hand, we also saw parts of the island we probably never would have ventured to if we'd stayed closer to Kona. The binder and guidebooks were helpful for choosing activities, which was important because we were scared to do much web surfing for information. The Internet, while working just fine, has data limits and the owners explicitly forbid you from doing almost all of the normal things you might do with it, including Facebook, instant messaging, games, or streaming or downloading video. If you go over the allotted data amount (and there’s no way to know how much you’ve used), they will charge you extra. It wasn't a huge hardship for us to limit our usage, but we still felt that this limitation should have been made clear prior to booking the house. But all in all, a nice tropical getaway, and we had a great vacation.

Why the Owner Chose Kalapana:
We chose this beautiful location in Hawaii for it's true authenticity and peaceful lush setting. When you wake up here, you feel that you have been transported to the Hawaii of days gone by. There is a great variety of activities from diving, swimming, snorkeling, sightseeing, and shopping. We are located in the country with the convenience of close shopping. This is truly the land of Pele as you can see the lava flow into the ocean from the deck.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While staying in Kalapana, the country atmosphere is augmented by the close local cafe, convenience store and Kava bar. We can see the ocean on all sides and the volcano flowing into the ocean from the meditation room. Drive just a little while and you can go to the most beautiful tidal pools and hot ponds. Up the hill to Volcano National Park, or to the other side of the island to more beaches and scenic wonders. Sit on the beach sun tanning while looking at the snow at the Mauna Loa observatory.
