Lake Lure Rental: Romantic Lakeside Getaway Cottage

Five Oaks is a cozy one-bedroom lakeside guest cottage situated on beautiful Lake Lure. It is the perfect spot for a romantic relaxing getaway vacation for two, or for a couple with one or two small children. Lake Lure is nestled in the narrow groove of Hickory Nut Gorge just 25 miles southeast of Asheville, NC. It was named by National Geographic as one of the ten most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Several movies, including Dirty Dancing have been filmed at Lake Lure. There is a never-ending variety of outdoor activities to be enjoyed in and around the lake, including swimming, fishing, diving, canoeing, and hiking.
Five Oaks Cottage was built in 2005 and is tastefully decorated and equipped with a full kitchen and bath with shower. We supply luxury linens, towels, and hygiene products for our guests and an information booklet listing local activities and attractions to help make each guest's stay both memorable and enjoyable. Guests have full access to the dock and boathouse rooftop deck for swimming, fishing, lounging, and enjoying the spectacular views of the lake, the gorge, and Chimney Rock Park. We also provide use of a classic wood and fiberglass canoe so you can tour the lake and visit sites of interest such as the cove where portions of Dirty Dancing were filmed. There are even some very nice restaurants that can be reached by water.
The cottage is situated behind the main house and has lake views from most windows and from the attached deck. The boathouse and dock are about 150 feet in front of the cottage. About 15 stone steps lead down to the ground level of the main house. A stone pathway then leads you around the house. Another 15 steps will take you to the rooftop deck atop the boathouse, and another 15 steps will take you down to the dock at water level. Having to negotiate steps down to the water is the norm at Lake Lure because it is a mountain lake. There are very few lodgings on Lake Lure that do not require the traversing of many steps to reach water level. Five Oaks Cottage, believe it or not, has fewer steps to the water than many. Still, it may not be suitable for older folks or those with disabilities.
In addition to wireless internet, a TV with satellite reception, CD and DVD players, and a component stereo, we have provided a set of computer speakers for use with an mp3 player. Five Oaks is the cottage where the author/owner conceived and wrote the popular series of children's books called The Lake Lure Chronicles (Google 'Lake Lure Chronicles' to view). We believe you will thoroughly enjoy your stay at Five Oaks and will create many lasting memories of this most beautiful and peaceful place.

My husband and I took a few days away from our 5 kids and couldn't have been happier staying at Five Oaks! We loved the quaint little cottage, dock, lake, canoe and more! The cottage was immaculately kept and provided all of the amenities needed. The quiet atmosphere and thunderstorm provided a wonderful environment for reading, relaxing and great napping! We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the dock and exploring Lake Lure on the canoe. The swimming was great as we enjoyed watching the lake traffic while floating on the rafts with a spectacular view of Chimney Rock! We can't wait to visit again!Did you find this review helpful? This a beautiful cottage situated in a gorgeous and peaceful setting. I wish that we could have stayed longer. The cottage itself is perfectly outfitted with everything you might need to enjoy your stay and the owners were great hosts! If you are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle, a do nothing but enjoy a good book or a swim in the lake or sit on the dock with a cold drink and watch the boats go by, then this is a great choice. (There are other things to do in the area if you are so inclined however.)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

Hubby & I were fortunate enough to spend a night in this tastefully decorated "getaway cottage" and I can truly say I had the best night's sleep in a long time. The cottage is perfect for a couple needing a quiet spot to relax. Although, it was late March & a little chilly, the cottage was snuggly warm. Penny & David have thought of everything to make your stay as welcome as possible. Waking up in the morning to the smell of pine trees & mist rising from the lake, make this a memorable spot. Even our dog, Miss Daisy enjoyed checking out the pine laden area surrounding the cottage. Very enjoyable & relaxing. Thank You & can't wait to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Wonderful romantic cottage! Everything we needed was included. Blankets, towels, shampoo, soap, etc! The kitchen was fully stocked with an oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and more pots and pans than we own! It was nice sitting on the dock and fishing out of the canoe.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
About the owner: We fell in love with Lake Lure the first time we saw it in 1984, and returned three weeks later and purchased a small cottage on the lake for weekend and summer vacation use. In preparation for retirement at the lake in 2006, we added a major second story addition to the original small cabin and built Five Oaks Cottage, a guest-house for additional space for family and friends and for a vacation rental when we are not using it. We are delighted to be able to share this beautiful and special place with others and we enjoy meeting the many wonderful folks who find us through VRBO and become our guests at Five Oaks.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Lure:
The natural beauty of this area is unsurpassed.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking, and just plain relaxing on the boat house deck and dock area.
