For those who seek an active agenda, a world-class coral reef is located very close to shore, and the Taj Majahual is 20 minutes from Mahahual, and Cancun is a 4-hour drive. Both offer a myriad of maritime and tropical adventures, as well as shopping, dining, and sight-seeing.

  • Our party of five stayed at the Taj Majahual in April of 2009. As soon as we arrived, we knew right away that this place was special…that we had made the right decision. We were told that the Taj Majahual was, and it clearly was, built to be a second home for the owners and not just a rental property. After unloading the car and putting the groceries away, we congregated outside in the Dining Temple for a drink. The Dining Temple was a large breezeway that separates the master suite and living area from the other two rooms upstairs. It had a glorious wooden table that would easily seat the Knights of the Round Table. It was situated so as to overlook the beach and Caribbean Sea (the “back side” of the mansion.) And underneath the table was a Persian rug, but it was made entirely out of Mexican Tile! Stunning, and just one more example of the countless extra touches that make the Taj Majahual so special. There was a long balcony which ran along the entire spans of the master living area, with doors opening into the living room and also the Sultan’s Suite. The other bedrooms on the main floor had private balconys. We all had a stunning view of the coastline (it was dark at this time, but we would discover the view in all of its glory the following morning.) There was a fairly strong breeze coming in off the water that was nice and cool. It would be that way constantly until our last night there, which was all well and good, because is made for very pleasant outside time. The kitchen was very serviceable and we were able to prepare meals and clean up with ease. There are little Moorish accents throughout the home that add the finishing touch to the palatial feeling. Niches with Moorish Arches, magnificent arches above the dining temple, the Huge Moorish arch and niches in the Sultan’s suite, and of course, the signature blue dome over the plunge pool (the pool was not finished at the time of our stay, but was slated for completion within a few months.) To sum it up, we had a most relaxing time, availing the Taj Majahual of all of its amenities, as-well-as a good bit of time in the water. We had no TV, but wi-fi broadband internet is provided, so we were able to keep up with the events of the outside world, in addition to Skyping home to the USA when we wanted or needed to. A word about the El Placer Area: If you are looking for a Sandal’s or Cancun resort type of experience, then the Taj Majahual is not for you. If you are looking for a secluded and very private beach experience coupled with an extraordinary and euphoric sense of solace , then you can’t get any better than the Taj Majahual.
