Romantic, Luxurious and Private Compound - Architectural Masterpiece, Exclusive Enclave in Costa Rica's Central Valley
'Villa Las Clementinas'
This 3 bedroom beautiful luxury villa is perched on the edge of a canyon just 30 minutes outside of San Jose --- but a world away. Infinity pool with hot tub, chef's kitchen, indoor and outdoor showers - must see pictures to believe. Gated community with international residents.
Private vacation retreat available for rent. Designed and built by Edgar Brennis, the founder of the School of Architecture at the University of San Jose, this home was built to complement the natural beauty of the surroundings. This house is located on an old mountain coffee and orange plantation that has since been converted into a private luxury, preserved, guarded and gated community.
Our home sits on the edge of a very large and magnificent canyon, through which the Rio Grande River flows. The entire home is built to maximize the views of the canyon and magnificent vistas can be seen from each room. The house is centered around a gorgeous wood and stone back yard area with an infinity pool that features a stone hot tub and views that are unmatched. Bird watching is one of our favorite pastimes here. (Binoculars, book library and an insane variety of birds included.)
Outdoor and indoor showers, beautiful furnishings, luxury linens are just some of the things that make our vacation home so special. It is a very comfortable and serene haven to relax and rejuvenate and enjoy the peace, quiet and beauty of Costa Rica.
We have a large family and we love to cook and entertain. Our gourmet kitchen that is well stocked with pans and utensils and whatever equipment you will need to make and enjoy a fabulous meal at home. Green markets, butchers and grocery stores are only a fifteen minute ride away into the town of Grecia.
Each bedroom features a private massage porch overlooking the canyon. You can arrange with a local day spa to make a house call to give you a massage, facial or other spa services. The cost for this is very inexpensive compared to the United States and is an affordable vacation indulgence like no other.
This is the ideal place to come and unwind. Whether you are looking to fly into San Jose and spend a few nights recalibrating before you venture out to explore the wonders this country has to offer, or you are just looking for the perfect place to completely relax, this gorgeous home will perfectly suit your needs.
The home is also an ideal place to use as a home base to take day trips to explore the rainforests, volcanoes, cloud forests and Pacific beaches for the day. All of these wonders are well within a day trip's reach from the house.
Our property manager Dan, a lovely American gentleman, will meet you at the property upon your arrival to orient you with the home, the security system, how to operate the pool and hot tub and to answer any questions that you may have. He can also give you some tips on day trips, where to go, etc.
One of our favorite ways to spend the day is relaxing, sunning and reading by the pool at the house, fixing lunch in the gourmet kitchen, and then to wrap up the afternoon with a spa house call in the afternoon. The hotel next door is always good for a canyon-side cocktail, a visit with the local kinkajou and even dinner if you wish.
On Sundays, the hotel hosts a terrific Sunday Brunch, complete with a live jazz quartet.
This hotel is 5 minutes by car from the house and their wonderful and helpful staff can also help you make arrangements for tours, drivers, day trips, etc...
Don't worry, you aren't completely off of the grid if you do not want to be. The home is equipped with wireless internet, US Cell Phone reception, TV with DVD player and satellite (SKY),(current) indie and Oscar award-winning movie library, stereo system and security system.
You can have the best of both worlds... come and relax in seclusion and, if you want, cgo off the grid for a while. Or, stay plugged in and connected with the outside world.
When you stay at Villa Las Clementinas, you will be in the exact locale that Travel and Leisure singled out as the 'best climate in the world'.. You will rediscover what it means to be totally relaxed and rejuvenated.

Costa Rica was a great place to visit and we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay! The grounds and home were beautiful and well maintained. The owner was very helpful in answering all our questions. The Villa Vista Inn nearby was a great place to have cocktails and dinner. So much to do nearby, we went white water rafting, ziplining, to the vocanos, La Paz waterfalls, and to the Beach! A great time:)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

Having been to Costa Rica in the past, this house was a perfect way to enjoy the pieces we wanted to re-experience without having to deal with too many tourists. Incredibly relaxing, gorgeous views and unbelievable accomodations. We are avid cooks and after visiting the local farmers markets were perfectly happy to stay in this little slice of heaven and venture out only occasionally. Cannot wait to go back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay in this awe inspiring home for a week. All rooms open out onto a peaceful, natural setting overlooking the amazing infinity pool and canyon. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated and is a great place for entertaining or small groups/families. The smart design maximizes the view and also has a fabulous open kitchen and common areas for communal gatherings. This is simply a gorgeous house/property and a gorgeous view conveniently located just outside San Jose.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We've been disappointed before when renting online, but as we were driven up to the house, we looked at each other, smiled and were both thinking: "as advertised." Turned out to be even more. Someone else mentioned the front door - wow, what a beautiful and huge piece of art! Just glad I didn't have to install it ... and it is very secure, as is the entire area. We met some neighbors who own property here and you'd think they were trying to get us to move to CR, they were so nice. We've been there three times now and see the same folks (and they're still just as nice). They even told us how to get hold of them should we need to do so. We (my wife and I) were amazed at how clean it was considering that we kept the screened in glass panels open much of the time. It's hard to describe the peacefulness and tranquility of the setting - just looking at the pictures make me want to chuck the work routine right now. And all the glass allowed us incredible views even when not out on the back veranda which overlooks the pool and the magnificent gorge. By the way be sure to take binoculars. When we had a small plumbing issue one trip and we were impressed how quickly and effectively it got taken care of. The people are extremely pleasant here and by the time the repair person left, we felt like we had a new friend. Usually the first night or two away from home neither of us sleeps well. Not so here and I attribute that to the sense of having been transported into this relaxed, stress-free zone. And on the one or two occasions when we decided to connect to those family not with us (letting them know we're there safe and of course rubbing it in with a few pictures to make them jealous), we had no issues with the technology. We've rented a variety of places in a number of locations and countries, but this is the only one to which we're drawn to return. Oh ... and you don't really need a car if you're up for having a tour guide tote you for a day or part of a day to see some sights. We did that and it was comfortable and worry-free.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

If, as said by Goethe, "Architecture is frozen music," then this house is a symphony. If you are lucky enough to find yourself in a position to be able to stay at this palace, like me you will soon be singing its praises. The intelligence and elegance of this comfortable and magnificent home cannot be adequately described in the limited allotment of this review. When you stay here you enjoy much more than the perfectly tasteful luxuries of the impeccably stocked kitchen, the hardwood floors, and the floor to ceiling glass. The genius of this design brings you right into the middle of the canyon from every spot in the house. You are one with the raptors and songbirds that soar on the updraft that is constantly wafting through and keeping the house at a perfect temperature. You are floating with the hummingbirds and blue morpho butterflies that hoover everywhere. To smell and breathe and become a place is a rare and exquisite experience available only through the kind of brilliance manifested by this magical home. If you can tear yourself away from the home to enjoy all that is easily available from this perfect location, you'll find yourself dreaming of returning, and then hustling back in the evening to catch the bewitching sunset from the back porch perch. This is a home with heart, soul, culture, imagination, understated intelligence. The owners are folks of the highest integrity. Their description of the charms of this home are understated to say the least. The house manager is more than gracious. He instantly makes you feel like you are a part of everything. He seems to know what you need even before you do. The grounds people, neighbors, and townspeople are a pure delight. Rosario itself is a perfectly scaled set of small villages with the quintessential mountain church nestled in and amongst the coffee fincas of the gorgeous Central Valley. This location is the soul of Costa Rica, and the hearts of the people could not be warmer. I only wish there was a rating with twice as many stars. If I were smart, I would keep this perfect rental a secret -- but this is such an incredible place to stay I feel compelled to let the smart traveller know about this true find.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: My husband and I are so delighted that you share our appreciation for Costa Rica and its beautiful people and rich cultural heritage. Thank you for your thoughtful review of our home and of the local surrounding area. We are beyond delighted that you and your family had such a special time on your vacation and want you to know that you are welcome in our home anytime.

I chose this house because the pictures of the views from the property absolutely took my breath away. What I was not prepared for was how truly magnificent the house and furnishings were. The front door makes for a truly grand entrance being (our guess) 8 feet wide and maybe 14 feet high. The dining room, many of the living room chairs and the outdoor furniture are all made of wood, clearly of the region, are impressively finished, each beautiful, comfortable. The kitchen is fully appointed, making cooking and clean-up a breeze. The review said the property was done by a local, famous architect. That is so apparent in all the details through-out the house. One of my favorite things was that each bedroom has an outdoor shower (you can see them in a picture: small stone "closets" providing privacy, yet still with that out-doorsy feeling. It is so very invigorating to take a shower at night, after the temperatures have dropped and having a hot stream of water coming down. I would not only recommend this property to friends, but I want to go back myself. This place was pure paradise for me. Overall I did give this property an "excellent" rating. More towels (although there are laundry facilities to wash the towels that were provided) and more comfortable beds are all that stand in the way of making this house 100% perfect~!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your lovely review! We would like to respond to this review to say that we brought down two huge suitcases of bath and pool towels to the house when were were there last and also new linens for the beds. The mattresses are very comfortable and are the top of the line that are sold in Costa Rica. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our home and look forward to welcoming you again in the future! The Taylors

About: Richard and Anne-Caroline.... we live in Atlanta and built this home as our personal hideaway in Costa Rica. We love to go to the house by ourselves to enjoy quiet time together and also to take trips to visit the house with family and friends. We have found Costa Rica to be our own little Shangri-La and we have so enjoyed getting to know this beautiful country and its people. We also have purchased land on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica (in Cahuita) and have fallen in love with the bohemian hamlets of Puerto Viejo and Cahuita. We hope to build a beach house in Cahuita sometime soon.
Why Rosario de Naranjo:
Paradise found, perfect location, the good life. We built this home on a lot we purchased on an old coffee and orange plantation that is now a gated luxury community.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Relaxation, Relaxation, Relaxation and more Relaxation. Great for entertaining, great central location for exploring Costa Rica....close to the airport in San Jose but a world apart from the city.
